Holding hands had to be one of Alec’s favorite things. He and Isabelle had done it for years, hiding the support and familial love of clasped hands behind their parents’ backs for fear of disapproval. Less hidden was his affection with Max, at least when he was younger, being a diligent big brother and holding Max’s hand to guide him and keep him from getting lost.
And most recently added to the list, Magnus.
Holding hands with a boyfriend was different than holding hands with a sibling, or even a friend. It sent even someone as stoic and harsh as Alec into a swarm of butterflies. He often couldn’t help the shy smile, the fluttering in his stomach, the swell of emotion in his chest. Maybe it would dull with time, as Alec got used to the relationship. Honestly, he hoped it didn’t.
But right now, Alec wasn’t smiling shyly. A sly grin stretched across his face as he sidled up next to Magnus on the couch, reaching out to slowly lace their fingers together. Magnus jolted, a helpless smile jumping onto his lips.
“Alexander…” He said, a warning note to his tone that was entirely negated by just how giddy he looked.
“What?” Alec said, with all the innocence of having grown up with Izzy and Jace. “I just wanted to hold your hand. Is that okay?”
Magnus huffed. “It’s okay, just– be careful .”
Alec grinned. “Oh, I know.”
And Alec was very careful. Careful to slide their fingers together as slowly and tenderly as possible, careful to brush his fingers against the back of Magnus’s hand in random patterns, careful to leave enough space between their palms for Alec’s thumb to wiggle in there and tickle against Magnus’s.
Which all left Magnus an adorable snickering mess of a warlock, half burying his face into Alec’s shoulder and smudging his eyeliner all over. It wouldn’t stain, Magnus would take care of that, but it did mean that Alec was doing his job right.
And he intended to keep taking advantage of Magnus’s sensitive hands as long as he was allowed.
