Summary
Here it is... The cold weather, we-must-share-body-heat-so-we-don't-die-of-exposure Reylo of which there have been so many and this is just another drop in the bucket. You may not have asked for it, but you know you want it!!!
The war is over, in no small part because things suddenly started going really well for the Resistance and not so well at all for the First Order. When Leia reveals to Rey that it was all due to a defector and internal saboteur, the last person she would have suspected was Supreme Leader Kylo Ren. And when she asks her to go retrieve her son because his escape went awry and she has lost communication with him in the Hoth system, there was no way Rey could say no.
Special note: This little story takes place several years after the Battle of Crait, but NONE of the events in The Rise of Skywalker took place, ESPECIALLY not the ridiculous return of Emperor Palpatine. (Oh, and while we're at it, Rey is NOT a Palpatine OR a Skywalker. Just to get that out of the way...) In that sense, this isn't really a TROS fix-it, but it's definitely a response to TROS!
