"What did you tell them about me?" Kong asked Arthit as they were on their way to the venue.
It had been a few months since Arthit received an invite to his cousins wedding and asked Kong to go with him.
Kong was excited to meet the rest of Arthit's family and for his fiancé to do the same with his soon.
Arthit and Kongpob planned to travel to get married but wanted to celebrate when they got back. Now was a good time to find out who they should and shouldn't invite.
"I told my cousin about you, I didn't want to just spring it on her today. She was happy for me. But to anyone else that asked I just said my partner, so not much," Arthit told him.
"This should be fun then," Kong said with a nervous laugh.
Arthit placed his hand on Kong's leg, giving it a reassuring squeeze as he carried on driving. "Is this a bad idea? Do you want to go home?”
Kong shook his head, placing his hand over Arthit’s. "No, it's not a bad idea. Let's go and celebrate the wedding, have a good time and not worry about anyone else."
"Okay," Arthit said with a smile.
It wasn't long before they arrived at the church, taking their seats with Arthit's parents. It was obvious to Kong, if not Arthit as well by the way he took his hand on the seat between them that a few people close by thought it odd that Arthit had brought a guy as his plus one.
Arthit wanted to say something to Kong but the ceremony was starting so he offered him a reassuring smile that comforted Kong. Kong was usually a very confident person, had always been proud of his sexuality and was never afraid to hide it. But being in a room full of strangers, not knowing how they’ll react was very nerve racking.
The ceremony went by beautifully and both boys couldn't help but feel excited for when it would finally be their turn.
The church was emptying and they said bye to Arthit's parents, promising to meet them at the party soon.
"Do you want to go for a walk?" Arthit asked.
Kong smiled and nodded, letting Arthit lead him out of the church and into the grounds. They walked through rows of flowers, swinging their joined hands and giggling like children.
"I wish we could have a wedding like this one," Kong sighed as they sat on a bench.
“We will one day," Arthit reassured him. "When it's legal, we'll have a big wedding and renew our vows."
"You want to be with me that long?” Kong teased.
"I wouldn't be marrying you in the first place if I didn't," Arthit laughed.
Kong smiled and leaned in for a kiss. "I love you.”
"I love you too," Arthit told him before they left for the party.
Arthit and Kong had a great evening in the end, realising they had nothing to worry about. Sure, it was obvious to them who didn't approve but they thankfully didn't cause a scene or try to engage in conversation.
When they weren't feeding each other little pieces of food, taking silly pictures in the photo booth or laughing at each other's terrible dance moves, Kong was meeting the rest of Arthit’s family. The night only made Arthit and Kongpob want to get married even more, looking up flights when they got home.
