Félix had a pep in his step as he made his way down to Encanto’s fields. In one arm was a freshly packed picnic basket and in the other was a bright yellow umbrella. He was on his way to meet his novia, the most beautiful girl in the world, Félix’s words.
Reaching the edge of the farm his smile grew when he laid his eyes on her. There in all her stormy glory was Pepa Madrigal. The cloud above her head thundered as rain poured down over the plants, ensuring they were well-hydrated. Her braid was a frizzy mess of tangles from the wind and her makeup was smeared over her face from the elements. Her arms were tight by her sides as she paced the walkway in annoyance. Her dress was damp and slightly dirtied by the fresh mud.
Félix had never seen someone so lovely until he moved to Encanto.
His family was the most recent residents of the growing town, only having arrived a few months ago. In the weeks that followed he was smitten with the local weather girl and eventually worked up the guts to ask her out. Only delayed making a move when her brother gave a very scary display of power if Félix so much as made her frown.
“Buenas días guapa!” The man called out when he was sure Pepa was finished with her job. The girl whipped around with a fiery gaze that immediately extinguished once she saw her beloved. “Félix!” She cheered as she practically pounced on the man. He was quick to recover and spun her around in a lift. “Hello, Pepi!”
“What are you doing here?” Pepa asked once she was sat down. “I wanted to surprise you.” Félix replied with a toothy grin. He held up the picnic basket for emphasis. “Shall we?” Pepa’s smile faltered as her cloud began to drizzle showing her mood. “Lo siento, I don’t exactly look the best for a date right now.” Félix just shook his head as he opened the umbrella to hold above her. “You always look lovely mi vida.” Pepa blushed as she nervously brushed her hands through her braid. “I wasn’t sure if you would be cold though, so I brought this too.” He reached into the box and pulled out a soft towel. Pepa greatly accepted and began to dry off some of the rain. “And this, even though I think you look radiant without it.” He held out a small hand mirror and makeup bag so she could touch up her currently running mascara. “You know me so well.” Pepa giggled.
Félix led them to the top of a large hill where they could overlook the whole valley. There was a large tree at the top, providing a nice shady spot to sit. He laid out the picnic blanket on the ground and began to pull out an assortment of food. Pepa sat beside him and poured two glasses of j ugo de Tamarindo. The two leaned against one another as they enjoyed their lunch, swapping stories and cracking jokes.
The small town below bustled with life but Pepa was more focused on the miles of nature that stretched about in every direction. “ Félix, could you tell me more about your home?” She softly spoke where she was resting her head on his shoulder.
The man had a cocky grin as he answered. “Of course, mi vida. My home is a lovely small village with kind people and beautiful mountains. There’s music everywhere and art in everything you see. There are wide empty fields and the tallest trees I’ve ever seen. But you know what my favorite part is?” Pepa hummed in response. “My favorite is the girl of my dreams only a walk down the lane.” Pepa giggled as she nudged her novio. “You know that’s not what I meant.” “But Pepi, home is where the heart is, and you mi vida, are mine.” Félix smoothly replied before leaning in for a sweet kiss. As their lips were about to touch there was a snap from above followed by a yell.
A clap of annoyed thunder went off as Pepa saw her brother laying on the ground before them with a branch in his arm. “BRUNO ARE YOU SPYING ON ME?” The seer groaned as he stood and brushed himself off. “No.” He lied. “It’s alright Pepi, your hermano is just being protective.” Félix patted her on the back. “But, he interrupted our date.” Pepa crossed her arms as she glared at her brother. “Hey if anything I was here first.” Bruno sassed. “Oh lemme guess, because you knew we were gonna be here with your gift?” “Uhhhh, nooooo?” “Very convincing Bruno.” Pepa turned and grabbed Félix’s hand. “Come on, let's go somewhere we can finish our discussion.” The man twirled her in his arms before dipping her down. “I don’t see why we can’t do that right here,” Félix stated before deeply kissing the girl. Pepa melted into the embrace and wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Ugh, you two are disgusting.” The seer gagged. “I’m out.” The couple separated to watch Bruno slide down the hill with practiced ease. “You’re amazing.” Pepa laughed as she took great joy in her brother being chased away. “So are you,” Félix joined in. “Te quiero Félix.” “Te quiero también Pepi.”
