Work Text:

“Let’s see now,” Bruno hummed as he rifled through the kitchen. “Sugar, salt, flour, chocolate, vanilla, and eggs.” He counted the measurements a total of three times before adding them to a pot. Placing it on the stove the chocolate began to melt and Bruno stirred together the mixture. After the batter was done he poured it into a pan and placed it in the oven.

“Should probably label these.” The seer thought as he went to grab a piece of paper and pen. With the note properly written, Bruno went up to his room while the brownies were baked. They wouldn’t be done for at least half an hour so he might as well take the time to read.

As Julieta walked into the room a few moments later her nose turned up at the strange smell wafting from the oven. Once she checked the contents she recognized the smell and used a toothpick to check on the brownies. They were nearly done, hopefully, Bruno would have the decency to clean up before he took the batch.

Sure enough, Bruno came down just in time to take out the pastries, receiving an unamused expression from his sister. “Just make sure none of the kids get into them.” Bruno rolled his eyes, “oh come on Juli, I’m not that scatterbrained.”

In his defense, it wasn’t one of the children Bruno saw reaching for the platter, it was his brother-in-law Félix. And the seer was slightly distracted by the rat that was trying to steal a piece of bread from the counter. He didn’t mean for it to happen, but hopefully, Camilo would finally learn his lesson about stealing food.

The shapeshifter, posing as his father, shoved an entire brownie in his mouth and swallowed. It tasted off somehow, like one of the ingredients had expired. He ate another just in case it was just a bad piece. The same taste, only now it was doubled. Camilo gagged as the flavor stuck to his tongue, this didn’t taste like his tía’s cooking.

“Hey, Bruno?” The boy asked in his father’s voice. “Did Julieta make these?” The seer raised a brow in response. “No, I told you I’d be making my brownies today.” ‘Félix’ nodded, “oh right of course. It’s just, they taste a little off bro.” Bruno fully turned to the man now, visible confusion on his face. “How so?” The shapeshifter was about to respond when his stomach made a low growl. “They taste bad, like really bad.” He stated as he clutched his abdomen. “What did you put in there?” ‘Félix’ swayed to the side as a small dizzy spell washed over him. As soon as it passed a new wave of nausea took its place. Camilo barely had enough time to rush to the garbage can before his stomach emptied itself, his body shifting back to its default state in the process.

Bruno barely had enough time to register surprise before he was at his nephew’s side. Once the shapeshifter had a moment to recover Bruno fed him a bite of food that was actually made by Julieta. The effects were immediate and Camilo breathed a sigh of relief. “Camilo are you alright?” Bruno asked with concern. “Yeah, I think I’m okay now.” “No side effects?” “No, don’t think so.”

“Then what were you thinking!” Bruno roared. Camilo jumped back at the sudden increase in volume. “You should know better!” “Well sorry, I assumed the food in this kitchen tasted good.” Camilo sassed. Bruno pinched the bridge of his nose, “Camilo, did you even read my note?” The shapeshifter nodded and held up the piece of paper. “It didn’t say anything about not eating it.” Bruno pointed to the label and read it allowed. “Chocolate cannabis brownies. Do you even know what cannabis is?” Camilo shrugged. “Some kind of spice I assume.” The seer did a face palm “it’s Marijuana Camilo, you just ate weed.” Camilo stared at his uncle in disbelief. “You, you laced drugs in food?” The seer nodded before taking the entire plate. “My gift won’t heal with Julieta’s cooking, but this makes it bearable sometimes.” With that, Bruno shoved a whole piece in his mouth and went up to his room.

“I’ll be down for dinner eventually.”
