Bar Crawl of Cthulhu

Summary:

A wizard, an ass, and an eldritch horror walk into a bar,

Or,

Guy has had weirder customers, but not many.

Work Text:

"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, you had to come to mine," Guy quotes to the newest patron to sit down at the bar.

"Do shut up, Gardner," Jason Blood says.  "I'm here for a friend."

"The built-in one, or?"

"I do keep other company, you know," Jason says.

Either his friend isn't here yet, or the man's just really interested in what Guy's pouring, but Jason doesn't look around the bar.  In fact, he doesn't seem to be looking anywhere except straight ahead.  Must be having a conversation with his rhyming demon partner.

Guy finishes pouring his pint and sets it down slightly harder than necessary.  It doesn't spill, because Guy's a professional like that, but it seems to jolt Jason back to reality.

"Should I be expecting more demonic company, or are they--?"

He's cut off by the lights of the bar flickering ominously, an overpowering scent of ocean spray filling the air.  Then everything is back to normal, except there's two more people at the bar.

Well, one person and one eldritch abomination.

What fun.

"Hi, Guy."

"Constantine," Guy says, his ring construct tapping the "no smoking" sign above the bar as John lights up.

"Aw, come on!  Just one?"

"Put it out or I put you out," Guy says, giving Constantine his "you're old enough to know better" look, one that got him through years as a teacher.

Constantine takes one drag, then the cigarette is gone, vanished into a literal puff of smoke.

"These are your friends?" Guy asks Jason.

"One of them," Jason replies.  He says something to the creature beside Constantine in a language even Guy's ring doesn't want to translate.

"Bloody rude," Constantine mutters.

Guy grins and pours their drinks when Jason orders for the abomination.

"You know, you should be flattered," Constantine says to Guy, as Jason and the god talk shop.  "It's not every day you get a genuine horror in your bar."

"You come in often enough."

"You're a real winner, you know that?"

"You taking them home tonight?" Guy asks, because curiosity still gets the better of him sometimes.

"Ever heard of the term 'consentacles'?"

Guy holds up a hand, his ring constructing cartoon hands to plug his ears.

"No and I didn't hear it now."

Constantine just laughs and joins his friends' conversation.
