Work Text:

Wei Wuxian was utterly exhausted. And in pain. But as Xiuying blinked up at him, it was so very worth it. It was a little hard to tell right now, but he was pretty sure that she was going to look exactly like his husband. There was just something about the way she looked up at him that made him think of his Lan Zhan.

“Wei Ying.” He looked up to see his husband enter the room with their son.

“A-Yuan! Come and meet your baby sister.” He said with a grin, patting the spot next to him. His son sat down on the bed, peering into the bundle in Wei Wuxian’s arms. Lan Wangji climbed into the spot on the other side of him, wrapping an arm around Wei Wuxian and pulling him closer. He let out a content hum, leaning back against his husband. “Yuan, meet Xiuying.” He said. Lan Wangji pressed a kiss to the side of his head, and his son leaned in, smiling at the baby.

“She’s beautiful, A-die. She looks like Baba.” He murmured.

“I know! I was so happy about that too. She’s going to be as beautiful as Baba.” He said with a content sigh, pressing a kiss to her forehead. Xiuying squirmed a little at the affectionate action, but didn’t do much more than that.

“Wei Ying.” Wei Wuxian looked up from where he was swaddling Xiuying in her bassinet.

“Yes, my love?” He asked. He pressed a tender kiss to Xiuying’s forehead before pulling back and walking over to his husband. When Lan Wangji opened his arms, he sank into them with a content sigh.

“You’re amazing.” Lan Wangji murmured against the top of his head. Wei Wuxian cocked his head to the side, a confused but pleased smile tugging at his lips.

“Thank you?” He asked. Lan Wangji let out a quiet huff of laughter.

“You brought our daughter into this world. It wasn’t easy, but you did it. You’re amazing, Wei Ying.” He said again. Wei Wuxian grinned, leaning up to press a warm kiss to his husband’s mouth.

“Flatterer. But thank you, Lan Zhan.”

“She’s so little.” Nie Mingjue commented a week later. Xichen, Huaisang, Mingjue, and little Yuming had joined them at Cloud Recesses to meet the newest Lan. Nie Mingjue had been handed the baby first, much to Wei Wuxian and Xichen’s glee. Nothing was more amusing than seeing one of the harshest men they knew holding a very tiny infant.

“She looks so much like Wangji.” Xichen murmured, leaning over his husband’s shoulder.. “Look, A-Yu, your little cousin is smiling.” He cooed to his son.

“We did good.” Wei Wuxian declared. He was sitting on Wangji’s lap, more than content to cuddle his husband.

“Yes you did, A’Xian.” Huaisang agreed, offering his friend a warm smile. “Now da-ge, let me see her!”

“Wait your turn.” Mingjue scowled, shifting away from his brother’s grabbing hands so he could hold his niece for just a little longer. Xichen chuckled, sharing an amused smile with Wei Wuxian.

“Lan Zhan, she has your eyes.” Wei Wuxian murmured in awe when he noticed that Xiuying’s baby blue eyes had lightened to his husband’s gold. Xiuying was currently sitting on a rug in Lan Wangji’s office, surrounded by rattles and bunny plushies.

“Mn.” Lan Wangji agreed, paperwork forgotten as he watched his daughter try and hand the white bunny the rattle.

“We’re so lucky.” He looked up to find Wei Wuxian wiping at his eyes, and he sent him a concerned frown.

“Wei Ying?” He asked. His husband crawled into his lap, shaking his head.

“Residual hormones.” Wei Wuxian explained.

“A baby?” 3-year-old Xiuying asked as she watched a foot press against her Mama’s stomach. Wei Wuxian nodded, taking her little hand and pressing it against his swollen abdomen.

“A baby brother or sister. Do you remember when Uncle Xichen’s belly was like this?” Xiuying nodded. It had been big like this closer to the start of the year, but it hadn’t been that way for a few months now. “Well your cousin Mingxia was inside of his belly.”

“Oh!” Xiuying gasped, eyes wide with surprise. Her cousin was still little, but was crawling around now. Apparently this was causing her Uncle Mingjue to want to pull his hair out. “So we’re going to get a Mingxia?” She asked. Wei Wuxian chuckled, shaking his head.

“Not quite, little love. Your sibling will be a baby just like Mingxia was, but they will be their own person.”

Xiuying got her first guqin when she turned 8 years old. It was a birthday present from her father, and she had cried after unwrapping it.

“Do you not like it?” Lan Wangji had asked, a concerned frown on his face. She shook her head, reaching up to wipe away her tears.

“No, Baba. I love it. Thank you so much.” She said, leaning over to hug him. Lan Wangji relaxed, hugging her tightly.

“Mn. You’re welcome, Xiuying.”

“Ugh, now you’re going to make me cry.” The two broke apart to find a pregnant Wei Wuxian sniffling into a handkerchief.

“Mama, everything makes you cry these days.” Almost 5-year-old Daiyu commented. Lan Wangji and Xiuying shared an amused smile as Yuan reminded Daiyu that Wei Wuxian was expecting their next sibling, and that sometimes his emotions overwhelmed him.

Xiuying was brushing her hair before bed when someone knocked on her door. She set down her brush before walking over to the door. There she found her baby sister, 4-year-old Liwei sniffling into one of her stuffed bunnies.

“What’s wrong, A’Li?” She asked.

“I had a bad dream, but Mama and Baba are away on a night hunt. Can I sleep here, Jiejie?” She asked. Xiuying’s expression softened. She nodded, taking her sister’s hand.

“Yes. Come on, I was just getting ready to go to bed.” She explained.

“Will gege be okay?” Liwei asked as she crawled into Xiuying’s bed. She nodded.

“A’Dai will be fine.” She promised.

Late that night their parents returned home, exhausted but satisfied by the successful hunt. Wei Wuxian frowned when he went to check on Liwei and found her bed empty.

“She is probably with Xiuying or Daiyu. BunBun is gone.” Lan Wangji observed. Wei Wuxian relaxed and nodded.

“Good call, Lan Zhan.”

After finding their son snoring alone in his room, they ventured to their oldest daughter’s room. There they found Liwei snuggled against Xiuying, BunBun tucked between them. Wei Wuxian let out a happy sigh, leaning against his husband. As he watched his daughters cuddle, Wei Wuxian was very grateful that this was his life now.
