Summary
Each time Diarmuid falls a part of him shatters. It will never, ever, become any easier. With every new pilgrimage the Mute hopes that this will be the one where he can be the hero from a tale, snatching his lover from death's jaws, and every time he fails it hurts him, like his insides have withered and cracked and crumbled and all that's left is a yawning, cavernous hole where his heart once was.
