The ninja were lounging around in the police station in New Ninjago City eagerly awaiting for anything that they could do, as Wu had sent them out to help the police with any trouble that they could have today; it almost felt spiteful for Wu to do this again, but hey what harm could come from helping the local police?
"This is so boring!" Jay yawned, "There's nothing to do around here!".
"The crime rates are rather low for the week" Zane noted, "It's a Tuesday, no one does anything really on a Tuesday".
"At least my hair won't be messed up" Kai said as he messed around with a small ball of flame in his hand, "But I'm bored too, there's nothing big to do!".
"You say that" Lloyd said shaking his head, "And then something's gonna happen. And that's coming from ME!".
"He does have a point" Nya agreed with her green-eyed brother, "And our luck isn't exactly the greatest".
"We should be fine guys" Cole assured, "What's the worst thing that could happen?".
The alarm suddenly blared throughout the police station and red lights filled all the rooms.
"COLE!" everyone yelled at once.
"UM, SORRY?!" Cole apologized with a nervous laugh and shrug of his shoulders.
A police officer ran into the room throwing the door open.
"THE BANK IS BEING ROBBED!" he cried, "BY MISS DEMEANOR AND THE MECHANIC! THEY GOT A BUNCH OF LACKEYS TOO!".
"Then let's move!" Lloyd spat, "There's probably people trapped inside too!".
The ninja rushed out as the police commissioner urged them to follow him to a convoy of police vans that were about to head out to the bank.
"HA HA HA!" The Mechanic cackled as his lackeys robbed all the people in the bank, "THIS IS SO EASY! NOBODY SAW THIS COMING?! HA HA HA! THIS IS SO GOOD!".
"Out all of you!" Miss Demeanor hissed at the civilians and bank workers, "We're only here for the money, and I don't feel like having a hostage situation today!". The civilians rushed out as the lackeys laughed at them, but then the ninja ran in after the civilians were out.
"WHO CALLED FOR AN OLD FASHIONED BANK FIGHT?!" Kai yelled.
"Oh ho now we're talking" Miss Demeanor hissed with glee, "Honestly I was looking forward to having this fight".
"Yeah well this will be quick!" Nya teased, "All of us are here after all!".
"We're still outnumbered Nya" Zane pointed out.
"Still gonna be fun either way" Jay chuckled with lightning coursing through his hands.
"Don't get too cocky ninja!" the Mechanic hissed, "The talking scrap has a very valid point!".
"Well same to you!" Lloyd yelled before he ran straight at the Mechanic with his sword looking to disarm him of his mechanical arm, but the Mechanic rolled to the side to dodge the sword.
"ATTAAAAACK!" the Mechanic roared as switched to his flamethrower hand and tried to burn Lloyd to a crisp, but Lloyd jumped away and tried to shoot a beam of energy at the Mechanic to drive him back. Kai tried to take on Miss Demeanor alone but his sister refused to let her brother go up against the woman alone, and Nya did have a score to settle with Miss Demeanor after the villain had burned her and gotten away on a previous encounter; all the others were busy fighting the lackeys, but it was one-sided as none of them had vengestone, so a number of the lackeys fled. Jay was chasing one of the lackeys to detain him or at least herd him over to the police so he could be detained by them, but the lackey noticed a duffel bag and ran over to grab it; Miss Demeanor and the Mechanic noticed.
"STOP!" the two suddenly screamed, "DON'T TOUCH THAT BAG-". The lackey had already grabbed the bag, but he lost his grip in confusion of what his bosses were telling him; the bag went flying into the air but everyone froze as it hit the ground. A bunch of beeping sounds came from the bag.
"UM WHAT'S THAT?!" Jay asked nervously.
"RUN!" Miss Demeanor screamed, "THE BOMBS FOR THE VAULT, THEY'RE ALL GOING OFF!".
"I SHOULDN'T HAVE BROUGHT SPARES EITHER!" the Mechanic muttered as he jumped through one of the windows to escape as the beeping became quicker and louder in succession.
"GET OUT OF HERE!" Zane yelled, "EVACUATE!".
The ninja and villains tried to run for the exit, but the bombs gave a single synchronized beep before they all exploded at once, the force of the blast sent everyone flying as some landed well out into the street; the bank's supports cracked and buckled under the blasts and fell as some screamed and a dust cloud filled the surrounding area as sirens rang out.
"SOUND OFF!" the police commissioner yelled into his radio before having a coughing fit, "EVERYONE SOUND OFF! GET THE FIRE CREW IN HERE!".
Dozens of voices rang out through the radio of officers sounding off, some already asking for ambulances either for themselves injured in the blast or for civilians that were injured by debris; the ninja took to their own communicators to sound off so they wouldn't take up the police channels.
"Who's here?!" Cole called out, "Everyone okay?!".
"I'm stuck!" Jay groaned over his communicator, "I got some debris on me!".
"I'm here, Jay I'm near you I think!" Kai coughed, "Why so many damn bombs?!".
"Why did those even go off?!" Nya spat, "Bombs don't just go off like that!".
"Perhaps the detonator was in the bag as well" Zane suggested, "But give me a moment to lock onto everyone's signals...". Zane was damaged but thankfully it was external and his titanium hide protected him, but when he pulled up the program his mechanical heart sank; Lloyd's signal was gone, and it's last ping was from inside the bank's ruins. "Oh no Lloyd... SOMEONE GET THE SEARCH TEAM NOW!".
Lloyd opened his eyes to see nothing but darkness as dust stung them and he coughed up blood, but when he tried to move pain shot through his body; he was trapped under a pile of debris and part of a support beam and worse yet his arms were trapped under other debris.
"How am I alive?" Lloyd thought, "Where are the others? Are they okay?".
All he could hear was ringing in his ears and maybe some sirens and yelling, but they were muffled.
"H-Help!" Lloyd tried to call out, "P-Please! I'm h-here!"; there was no immediate response, so he tried to wait for them. He waited and waited but nobody came and every breath was agonizing to take, and then his eyelids felt heavy like boulders.
"Maybe I just need to rest a little bit" he thought, "Just gotta wait until they find me... And hopefully I'll wake up not in the Departed Realm... I wonder if my real father's there waiting for me..."; darkness took his sight as he fell unconscious.
"So you're telling me that my little brother is stuck in that GIANT pile of rubble?!" Kai spat as the team were in a circle discussing their next move.
"That's not all" Zane said worried, "Both his gi tracker and communicator have stopped functioning! They're no longer giving off a signal".
"Both of them?!" Nya repeated, "But that shouldn't be possible! Maybe they were knocked offline by the blast?!".
"So he might be..." Jay asked with dread hanging in his voice sitting on a piece of debris with his gi around his torso and legs bloodied, but thankfully the injuries weren't serious.
"We don't know until we look" Cole cut in, "And there's already a search and rescue team going through some of the rubble, so we should help out!".
The police commissioner walked up to the group as the dust had finally settled; "Jay we have an ambulance waiting for you, and is everyone else here okay?".
"Yeah for the most part" Cole coughed, "A bit of dust in the lungs probably, and a few bruises and scrapes, but we think Lloyd's under some of the rubble!".
"Oh no" the Commissioner said as his face went pale and he looked toward the rubble, "We'll find him, I swear it!".
The ninja spread out while an ambulance arrived to take Jay away and get him treated for his injuries.
"Alright that's one sector down, move onto the next one!" the rescue team leader yelled, "You know what to look for!".
The search team carefully turned over bits of rubble and listened for any sign of anyone that could be caught under the rubble, but one young lad noticed something on the ground; blood coming from somewhere nearby, so the lad tried to follow where it was coming from. He found a large pile of debris and waved some of his older colleagues over to help him look through it, but then after moving enough rubble a gloved hand was visible sticking out of the rubble.
"HEY WE GOT SOMEONE HERE!" the lad yelled; one of his colleagues grabbed the hand to feel for a pulse.
"WE GOT A LIVE ONE! GET OVER HERE NOW! WE MIGHT NEED THE JAWS OF LIFE!".
The rescue team leader named Jackson arrived with his helmet on and saw that this pile of rubble included a part of one of the bank's pillars, and he silently prayed that the rubble stopped the pillar from crushing whoever was stuck under it; they carefully began to pick apart at the pile when one of his men nearly screamed, and upon looking into the space that his team member had created. He saw a blood stained green gi.
Zane and Cole were combing through some of the rubble on the other side when they heard yelling on the other side, and at first they weren't sure what it was about.
"MEDICS!" a voice yelled, "MEDICS!".
"What's that all about?" Cole asked, "Sounds like they found somebody".
"I believe so" Zane muttered, "And whoever they are probably aren't in good shape judging by the yelling".
One of the rescue team ran over nearly tripping on the rocks; "IT'S LLOYD! WE FOUND HIM! HE'S ALIVE!".
Zane and Cole looked at the man in disbelief before they followed him over to a pile of rubble with a large piece of a stone pillar in it, and the rest of the rescue team were huddled around it as someone was holding onto one of Lloyd's hands to keep a read on his pulse; the rest of the ninja team came running.
"Is he okay?!" Kai yelled as he ran up, "Why aren't we taking the pile apart already?!".
"Because there's a support pillar right on top of him" the rescue chief explained, "It's being held up by the rubble around it, and if we go at the rubble without moving that pillar then Lloyd will be crushed!".
"Stand back then" Cole warned, "Give me some space to work!".
The rescue team backed off as Cole's arms began to glow as he walked up to the pile of rubble trying to figure out a good starting point, but he could hear Lloyd's raspy breaths and grimaced knowing that Lloyd was probably badly injured under the rubble; he shook his head.
"The sooner you get that pillar off of him, the sooner he can be treated" Cole reminded himself as he walked to one of the ends of the pillar with his arms still glowing. He saw that this end of the pillar was sticking out of the pile allowing him to get his hands under it so he could try to lift it up, and although at first he had some trouble his determination saw him through as he groaned before he managed to push it upward and it tipped backward before crashing to the ground in the other direction; he looked down and saw Lloyd lying on his chest with his back, arms, legs, and his blonde hair stained red with his own blood.
"Alright easy now" the rescue chief said as the medics rushed in with a stretcher and some of the rescue team ushered Cole back so they could assess Lloyd's wounds; Zane grabbed Cole's shoulder and gently pulled him back as Cole swore he could hear Lloyd groan in pain as the medics were trying to move him, but Cole couldn't take his eyes off Lloyd until he heard Kai yelling. Nya was holding Kai back as Kai was trying to reach Lloyd, calling out to his little brother with tears in his eyes, but the police commissioner stepped in to help Nya and the police escorts ushered the ninja into one of their vans so they could follow Lloyd to the hospital.
The steadily beeping of some kind and the smell of antiseptics lulled Lloyd from a deep sleep.
"Huh, so I'm not dead" he thought as he started regaining feeling in his limbs, but the pain returned although dulled by something being poked into his arms, "Did I get my shield up before the blast? I can't remember".
"Oh! He's waking up!".
"Quiet! He needs to rest!".
"You okay little bro?".
"Son we're right here for you, just take it easy!".
Lloyd slowly opened his eyes to blinding light in a light blue and white room as his vision blurred, but after a few moments his vision cleared and he saw his family and friends all around him; he smiled weakly before he realized that he had a lot of casts on his limbs and parts of his body.
"Oh please don't tell me I'm stuck here" Lloyd whined, "I hate being stuck like this!".
"Sorry, but you will be stuck in bed for approximately two months even with your advanced healing properties" Zane told him, "However, you were very lucky to survive".
"Thanks" Lloyd groaned before he noticed that Zane was holding a pink marker and one of Lloyd's casts had a little pink ninja on it. "Oh you finally get me back when I'm like this huh?".
Zane snickered as Pixal looked at Zane and Lloyd confused, and all the while the others were laughing except for Misako; Lloyd couldn't help but start laughing himself. He knew that he'd be alright with his friends there to look after him, and they knew just how much he hated being stuck in one spot so they weren't going to leave him to fend for himself in the hospital; he knew he could at least try to relax and recover in the hospital and felt confident that he come maybe make a run to get out soon.
