~ You're Never Too Old For Trick-or-Treating! ~
"What do you mean you haven't gone trick-or-treating since you were Pearl's age?" Maya gasped out in horror.
Miles thought her reaction was more dramatic than the situation called for.
"The last year that I went was the year my father died." His expression soured as he said, " 'A von Karma does not dress up like a fool and beg for treats.' "
Maya almost cracked a smile at his impression of Manfred von Karma.
"And I'm an adult now. Trick-or-treating is for children."
"Yeah, and you can come with me to take Pearl around the neighborhood," Maya replied. "You're already in costume."
This was true. He was dressed as the Steel Samurai.
"I was just going to stay home and hand out candy," Miles protested.
"But it would be more fun if you came with us," Maya said, and grabbed his hand. "And since we're both in costumes too, a lot of people will insist on giving us candy even if we're not little kids!"
Miles didn't really care about getting Halloween candy (he was a successful prosecutor who could afford to buy his own candy if he wanted it), but he allowed himself to be dragged toward the door anyway. Maybe she was right. Maybe this would be fun.
