Work Text:
It had been absolutely pouring all day. Deep grey skies covered the entire campus, releasing unexpected downpours on everyone randomly and odd times, until it evened out to a steady tempo later in the afternoon, not unlike the audio in videos meant to aid in sleeping.
Felix had run into a rather drenched Minho after his last class, cold hands clasped around a bright yellow umbrella he had picked up at some point. The older dives underneath the umbrella and huddles next to Felix before he can even offer it, not that he minds one bit, happy to see Minho after a long day.
“Rainy days are only good when you don’t have to go anywhere,” Minho declares, matching Felix’s speed walk as they make their way across the soaked quad and to the younger’s dorm. “Otherwise, they suck.”
Felix laughs, clear as a bell. “Oh, come on now, Minho. It’s not that bad.”
“Cats don’t like water,” Minho says, hissing when he missteps on the asphalt and lands the entirety his sneaker in a puddle, thus soaking the shoe and his sock. “I’ve been perpetually damp and soaked all day and I feel like a towel that was in the washer that stopped mid-cycle.”
Felix snickers. Personally, he’s not too particular to the occasionally rainy day. It just makes him want to bundle up into a blanket burrito with hot chocolate, soft music, and a good book. He feels so, so sleepy on cloudy and rainy days that it makes it difficult to focus on anything.
They finally make it up to Felix’s dorm room, just before the heavens open up and let down an absolute deluge that has everyone running for cover. The room is on the top floor of the building and the rain is coming down so hard they can hear it hitting the roof.
Felix cracks the window open, making sure water isn’t coming in through the screen before he throws clothes at Minho so he can shower and change into dry ones.
Hyunjin and Jisung arrive a little bit later, both equally soaked and bickering.
“Felix, tell Jisung I don’t look like the girl from the Ring,” Hyunjin demands, swinging his head around to look at him, hair dripping down in strands over his face.
“You look more like a wet rat,” Minho says as he comes out of the bathroom, towel drying his hair.
Hyunjin splutters, Jisung cackles, and Felix smiles at his friends’ antics, watching the smirk grow on Minho’s face as he easily gets a rise out of Hyunjin.
He lets the sound move around him, choosing not to engage any further in the friendly fight that erupts. Scrolling through his texts briefly, responding to one Chan had sent him and telling him that half of them were already gathered at his dorm, Felix shoots off a group text asking if others want to just come and join them for the evening.
Seungmin: I have Changbin with me, we’re coming over. Be prepared.
Me: Well that’s totally not ominous
Jeongin: Someone in this group has to be ominous if it’s not Minho
Me: True that
Seungmin: Changbin’s suggesting pizza for dinner. Has anyone seen Chan?
Jeongin: On my way to fetch the old man now.
Jeongin: You owe me.
Seungmin: Noted.
Me: The rest of the gang says pizza is good.
Seungmin: We’ll pick it up on our way over then
Hyunjin flops down into the chair, covering Felix with half his body. He’s dressed in the spare sweatpants he keeps in his backpack and one of Jisung’s oversized shirts, much drier than before. Hyunjin glues himself to Felix’s side, wrapping around and resting his head on Felix’s shoulder.
“Hi there.”
“Hi yourself.”
It’s a few short minutes before both boys have melted into the chair, warm and sleepy. The rain pattering through the open window, combined with Minho and Jisung’s quiet conversation, provides the perfect background noise to lull them to sleep.
Felix wakes up disoriented and fuzzy, Chan shaking him gently awake.
“Hey there, sleepyhead,” Chan whispers, a soft smile on his face. “Pizza's here.”
“Hngh,” Felix grunts.
Hyunjin whines as Felix jostles him, clinging on tightly as Chan hauls them up out of the chair. He drapes over Felix’s back as they waddle across the living room to the kitchen where the others are gathered, groggier than Felix as they putter around and get food.
They land themselves back in the chair, Hyunjin snagging a blanket on the way over. Nesting down, they knock elbows a little bit as they eat and talk with the others. Everything in the moment was perfect, if you asked Felix. Good food, good people, good life, as Chan would say.
Hyunjin sets his place to the side and burrows down against Felix again, and soon Felix can feel the older breathing evenly against him as he naps away, content to be cuddled to oblivion by Felix.
The rain picks up again as the night draws on. It’s decided that everyone will just sleep over, since it doesn’t look like the weather will be clearing up any time soon. Felix watches through half-lidded eyes as Jisung orchestrates the abduction of a certain laptop so that a certain someone will actually sleep like he’s supposed it. He’s not sure where it gets hidden, but the kidnapping isn’t discovered until just before bed.
“Nope, sleep,” Changbin commands, tackling Chan onto the couch. Seungmin tosses a blanket over them, Changbin grabbing it and wrapping it around the two of them, effectively entrapping and rendering any escape attempts useless.
“You good for the night?” Minho asks Felix, stopping by. He runs a hand through Felix’s hair, not helping the battle against sleep.
“Yeah, I’m good,” Felix mumbles. He’s warm, he’s comfortable, and he has a cuddle buddy. He is definitely good for the night.
“Okay. Sleep well.”
Minho vanishes into one of the bedrooms, flicking the lights off on his way. Felix drops off again to Changbin and Chan whispering, the sound of rain pouring through the open window.
Everything is peaceful. Everything is safe. Everything is good.
