Chapter Text
Entering the purple turtle’s room, (Y/n) looked around with curiosity. She was often over at their place, finding any opportunity to drop by and hang out with the turtles. But out of the four brothers, she visited Donatello the most. Leo was the only one who noticed this, always giving the girl knowing looks whenever he saw her approach the tech genius’ room.
Even though nothing much had changed in the lab, she liked to look around and check out everything Donatello had made. She was always so surprised by his talent, the purple turtle surpassing her expectations each time he invented something new.
“Hey Donnie,” she greeted, making sure not to touch anything. She’d seen all the crazy stuff his machines could do, not wanting to accidentally set something off. Donnie hummed in response as he sat at his desk, asymmetrical goggles pulled down over his eyes. He was tinkering with something, looking very closely at it as he poked at it with a screwdriver.
The turtle teen had been the one to invite her over, (Y/n) taking the time to look around as she waited for him to finish. She wasn’t sure what he had planned, wishing he would at least finish whatever he was doing first before inviting her over. With his tongue poking past his lips, he continued to work in deep concentration.
“Uh there should be some pizza over there if you’re hungry, I’ll be finished in a sec” he called out, making (Y/n) feel a little bit better. Her eyes scanned the room for the pizza box, spotting it on the opposite side of the lab. She skipped over and reached out to touch the box, wanting to kill time and enjoy something to eat while she waited for the genius turtle.
“No, wait!” Donnie called out after lifting his gaze and seeing what his friend was doing. He was right, there was pizza there. But there were two boxes, one which actually held the greasy yet delicious morsels and another which was booby-trapped. Right as she reached out to open the box, the trap activated.
Shoving everything roughly onto his desk, Donnie leapt out and grabbed onto her right as the trap sprung. A glowing, forcefield-like ball enclosed the pair. trapping them inside. (Y/n)’s body was momentarily held to the genius' chest as they were enveloped in the sphere, the teenage human shifting away as soon as they were stable. Donnie rubbed his head, groaning in pain from the harsh fall.
“What happened?” (Y/n) asked, placing her hand on the wall of the sphere. She used a small amount of force to push against it, pulling her hand back after feeling how resistant it was. Since it was an invention of the trapped turtle, she knew there was no easy escape. For some reason, Donnie liked to add weird, highly impractical features to his machines. He sighed as he leaned back against the sphere's wall behind him, one of his fingers directing his friend’s attention to a second pizza box.
“There were two boxes, I trapped this one to stop Mikey from stealing my pizza,” he explained, his eyes beginning to scan their surroundings for a way out. His face lit up when he spotted the trap's remote, his body shifting forward to press his hands against the wall of the forcefield.
“That’s the remote! If we can press the large button, we’ll be free,” he told (Y/n), catching her as the ball rolled forward slightly. He held her securely to his side, not noticing the heat rising from her cheeks. She pulled back once his hold loosened, moving as far away from the purple bandana-wearing turtle as she could. But within the orb there was barely any space, their bodies closer than ever.
“But how are we supposed to get over there?” (Y/n) asked, wanting to take her mind off their unfortunate situation. She did not want to think about her closeness to the turtle genius, keeping her gaze focused ahead.
“We’ll have to use the trap like a hamster ball to reach the remote,” he said, turning to look down at the human’s smaller frame. She nodded, watching as he opened his arm to her.
“But we’ll have to work together to get over there, come closer,” he encouraged, not thinking much about it. (Y/n) was aware that Donnie didn’t favour physical touch, but in this situation, he wasn’t really bothered by the idea of it at all. Knowing there was no other way, she moved closer to him and internally squealed as she felt his strong arm secure her by snaking his hand around her waist. He held her tightly, the pair slowly crawling on their knees to where the remote lay.
Once they were right in front of it, Donnie chuckled with satisfaction now that they were one step away from getting out. But without anything to grab or push the button on the remote, they were left hoping that rolling over the remote would be enough to free them. Unfortunately for them, as soon as enough of their weight rested on one side of the remote, it shot out from underneath them and completely out of their reach. Now resting where the wall and floor connected, both trapped teens let out disappointed sighs. With the size of the sphere, there was no way they’d be able to reach the remote at all now.
“We’ll just have to call out and see if one of those idiots can hear us,” Donnie said, beginning to call out the names of his brothers. (Y/n) joined him, not wanting to be trapped any longer. Being stuck in an enclosed space with the person she liked had its merits, but there was also a downside. There was only so much contact she could avoid before Donnie would notice; it didn’t help that he was very perceptive. And now that he didn’t have his brothers or an invention to distract him, she worried that her feelings might be forced out of her. She told herself it was simply a crush, keeping it to herself since she knew that Donnie didn’t see her like that. She’d been referred to as a friend so many times that it no longer stung to hear it, she knew it was just their reality. In her eyes, the purple turtle could do so much better than her, she was just a regular teenage girl.
Now the pair had given up on calling out for the other three turtles, knowing that they couldn’t be heard in Donnie’s lab. They currently sat with crossed legs, knees touching as they faced each other. With limited space, they were forced into this position, and it seemed like the least intimate one. But as time passed, (Y/n) couldn’t help squirming in discomfort. Her legs were starting to go dead, the human teen shuddering as the tingling feeling of pins and needles took over her lower limbs.
“Ugh, there’s no space in here,” she whined, finally getting fed up with how uncomfortable she was. Donnie met her gaze, holding up a lot better than she was.
“Should we change positions?” he asked, tapping his chin to give it some thought. (Y/n) nodded her head, wondering how else they could sit. Maybe sitting back-to-back could work, that way she could hide her face from the purple-wearing turtle. However, after hearing Donnie's next words her body froze and her brain short-circuited.
“We could lay down with your back to my chest, that’d be better,” he offered, not noticing the pink tinge to his friend’s face. She tried to push the thought out of her head, not wanting Donnie to spoon her in this situation. There was no way she was going to let that happen, she wasn’t sure if she’d survive.
“D-do you have any other ideas?” she asked, hoping he could use that big brain of his to think of something else. He gave it some more thought before his face lit up.
“How about, I lay back and you lay on top of me?” he suggested. (Y/n) could feel the steam rising off her face, her hands pressing to her cheeks in an attempt to suppress the reaction. Somehow, he had come up with an even more intimate position, (Y/n)’s heart nearly beating out of her chest. But then she had another thought, there was no harm in being close to him. If anything, this could be her only opportunity to enjoy being close to him. She was confident that their relationship wouldn’t surpass friendship, wanting to treat herself a little.
“Um, okay,” she answered, unable to hide her unease. Donnie didn’t focus on it, offering his three-fingered hand out to her. The teen took it, allowing him to adjust their position until they were comfortable. She now lay with her head on his chest, his hands resting gently against her back. She couldn’t lie, it felt nice being this close to him.
Closing her eyes, she heaved a sigh of relief now that she was in a position that was extremely comfortable. As the feeling in her legs returned, (Y/n) thought about how much she loved this. She nuzzled her face against his chest, enjoying the feeling of Donatello’s fingers gently tapping against her lower back. At this point, she didn’t mind how long it would take to be let out. (Y/n) was sure she could lay there happily forever.
But the trapped pair tensed at the sound of the door opening, a feeling of relief coming over them as the thought of freedom floated into their minds. Unlucky for them, the most unhelpful of Donatello’s brothers entered the room. Leonardo peeked into the lab, spotting the sphere where the two teens were trapped. His eyes locked onto them immediately, taking in the compromising position they were in. Now that someone else could see them, embarrassment hit them both like a train. They leapt away from each other, both with fiery cheeks.
“Looks like things are going well in here,” the blue turtle snickered, taking another moment to take in the sight of their embarrassed forms.
“Leo, get us out of here,” Donnie called to his brother, groaning in annoyance after earning a wink from him. He lifted his hand to wave at the pair before he left the lab again, not caring that they were trapped. (Y/n) internally cursed her obviousness, knowing that if Leo hadn’t discovered her crush they would definitely be free by now. The katana-wielding turtle had taken every opportunity to push Donatello and (Y/n) together, forcing them into compromising situations like this. And now he was going to leave them there, hoping this forced closeness would be enough to bridge the gap between them.
Donatello heaved a sigh, relaxing against the wall of the forcefield that was behind him.
“It’s useless relying on him,” he complained, sliding down the wall so he was almost laying down again. He offered his hand out to (Y/n) once more, wanting to return to how they were before. But Leo’s entrance had made her extra anxious, making possible situations pop into her head.
What if Mikey or Raph were to come in and see them like that?
And how would she show her face to Splinter if he caught them?
If anyone else found out, she knew that she wouldn’t be able to escape it. Shuffling as far away as she could from the turtle, (Y/n) turned her face away.
“No, I’m fine like this,” she told him, not wanting to talk about it anymore. Despite managing to accidentally ignore her previous expressions, Donnie noticed this one. The human teen sat with her legs pulled to her chest, her face harbouring a small frown.
“What’s up with you?” Donnie asked, leaning closer. (Y/n) immediately noticed the space between them shrinking, her body instinctively pulling further away. But as she moved, so did the orb. It rolled slightly, the teenage girl almost losing her balance. But before she could fall, Donnie caught her by the waist. Feeling his touch, she yelped in fright and jumped away. This force was not good for the sphere, sending it rolling across the lab. The two trapped teens tumbled roughly, smashing into both the hard ground and each other.
Once it came to a complete stop, both (Y/n) and Donnie were disorientated and dizzy. They both had light scrapes on their bodies but nothing they couldn’t handle. Recovering from what had happened, (Y/n) lifted her gaze to see an angry expression on her favourite turtle’s face. She could tell he was pissed off, his jaw clenching before he spoke up.
“Do you really find me that repulsive?” he accused, his drawn eyebrows extenuating his enraged expression. Once he had finished speaking, he turned around so his mechanical shell faced her. (Y/n) opened her mouth to speak but quickly closed it again. She didn’t know what to say, feeling incredibly bad since he was obviously hurt by her avoiding his touch.
“I-I don’t think that,” she argued, not wanting him to think that she felt that way about him. She wanted him to understand without having to get reveal too much, but she was struggling to think of a way around confessing to him.
“Then why are you always avoiding my touch when you’re always so close and physical with my brothers? You give Mikey a hug every time you see him but whenever I get close to you, you avoid me like the plague,” he ranted, his voice raised to match how upset he was. Hearing his worries, (Y/n) knew that she had come to a dead end. There was no way around it now. All she cared about were Donnie’s feelings, but she would have to put aside her own in order to prioritize them. Heaving a quiet sigh, she wondered how she should say it. Turning around, she leaned back against his shell so they were touching.
“I’m sorry, Donnie. Everything used to be fine with all of you, we’re all friends so it’s fine being close to the others. But… it’s different with you,” she expressed, hoping she wouldn’t have to say much more to get him to understand.
“What? So we’re not friends?” he blurted out angrily, his tone harsh. (Y/n) knew it wasn’t his fault, if she had managed to hide her crush better then none of this would’ve happened. Even better, she wished that she’d never developed a crush on him in the first place.
“It’s not like that,” she snapped back, not wanting to let him get the last word. She couldn’t leave him angry like this. A yelp escaped her throat as the sphere suddenly moved, flipping the two teens and changing their positions once again. Now the staff-wielding turtle had her pinned beneath him, their faces close as he glared down at her. (Y/n) had never seen him get this worked up, feeling vulnerable under his gaze.
“Then how is it?” he demanded, searching her expression for an answer. He seemed desperate, wanting to know how they had reached this point and what was going on in her head. Donatello may have been a genius, but he could never seem to work out what was going on inside her head. Seeing how badly this was affecting him, (Y/n) knew that she would have to come clean. Heaving a quiet sigh, she knew this was the end.
“I like you, Donnie. Being close to you makes me feel embarrassed, I’ve been trying to maintain a distance because I haven’t been very good at hiding it. Even Leo figured it out,” she said, laughing awkwardly as she thought back to the time Leo had confronted her about it.
“I know that you don’t feel the same so you can just forget all of this happened. It’s just a stupid crush, I’ll get over it eventually,” she finished, feeling relieved to get it all off her chest. But she was also fearful, not knowing what was going to come next. The teen expected rejection, she just wondered how harshly it would be dealt to her.
But she was surprised to hear the turtle above her release a sigh of his own, his body lowering to rest on top of her. Donnie’s head rested against her chest, his weight pressing down on her gently as he held himself up slightly with his arms.
“Thank god,” he mumbled, his reaction surprising the girl beneath him. It didn’t take long for him to recover, pushing himself back up. Leaning forward in the orb, it rolled forward slightly so now his face hovered over hers. (Y/n)’s eyes darted around the room in a panic, unsure what to do with her crush’s face so close to her own.
“What are you doing?” she managed to croak out, not knowing how to handle the situation.
“I thought you hated me,” he confessed, briefly closing his eyes as he settled. Donatello felt a weight lifting off his shoulders, no longer worrying that the human below him hated his guts.
“Can we talk about this in another position?” (Y/n) asked in a panic, noticing that he had somehow come even closer. Their faces were inches apart, his body so close she knew he could probably hear her rapidly beating heart. But she was surprised when he spoke up.
“No,” he answered bluntly. (Y/n) was tempted to ask him why but didn’t get the chance as he leaned in and pressed his lips to her own. She tensed at the initial contact but eventually sighed into the kiss, her hands stretching up to wrap around his neck. He didn’t need to say another word and neither did she, the pair melting into the kiss.
It was soft and sweet, revealing a lot to (Y/n). She had assumed that Donatello wouldn’t ever look at her the way she looked at him, but he constantly called her to hang out. He was kind and went out of his way for her, even occasionally getting jealous of her closeness with his brothers. He hated that Leo had left him trapped but also felt like he needed to thank him, finally giving him the push he needed to share how he felt.
Pulling out of the kiss, the trapped teens stared at each other for a moment before their faces exploded with colour. From there (Y/n) wasn’t sure what they would do, knowing that they definitely wouldn’t be able to go back to being regular friends. But she was thankful for Donnie, the pair enjoying each other’s closeness as he rolled over onto his back and pulled her back onto his chest. There was no doubt that it was gonna have an awkward start and require a lot of courage from the two, but they both seemed up for it. Getting trapped wasn't so bad after all.
EXTRA:
“Donnie?” a voice called from outside of the lab. Not receiving a response, the curious turtle poked his head around the door and looked around for any sign of his brother. Slipping through the door, he walked around until his eyes landed on a large orb laying in the centre of the floor. He approached it, raising a brow muscle as he tried to look inside. Unfortunately, it looked like it had fogged up from the inside, the youngest of the turtle brothers unable to see what was inside.
The next thing that piqued his curiosity was a remote he recalled Donnie telling him never to touch. Prioritizing his interest, he picked it up off the floor and eyed the large red button on it. Without hesitation, he pressed it and watched as the orb popped like a bubble. As the steam cleared, he could now see his brother, Donatello, and human friend curled up together. They were both fast asleep, clinging to each other as they rested.
“Aw,” he cooed quietly. But his attention was snatched away by the sight of a pizza box sitting on Donnie’s workbench. Making sure the coast was clear, he hurried over and picked it up before hurrying out of the room. Leaving the cuddling pair to sleep in peace.
