Haunted

Summary:

Day 21

Work Text:

She blew a what?! ” Jody gasped.

Claire glared at Kaia. “Why did you tell her?!”

“I wasn’t supposed to?!”

No you weren't supposed to!”

“Since when do you drink like that?” Jody continued, still shocked from the discovery of her bonus daughter’s night in jail.

“I didn’t drink anything! Kaia, tell her!” Kaia opened her mouth as if to agree, but seemed uncertain. “Kaia!”

“I mean… I didn’t see her drink anything… but–”

But !?”

“Well after the whole magical 70s dragon race… or whatever… it’s kinda hard to say, now.”

“I was drugged!” Claire yelled, stomping her foot.

“You were what ?!” Jody’s eyes looked ready to pop out of her head.

Jack nervously looked between the gradually angering women. “Hey, guys, maybe we should discuss this later, Dean said to meet them in an hour for the ghost tour.” He twiddled his thumbs, hoping they would bite, and to his relief they did.

Fine !” Jody sighed. She grabbed her bag, fumbling with getting it over her shoulder (wondering when the last time she used a purse was). “This is not over.” She said, pointing a finger at Claire.

“Yeah.” Claire replied. “Whatever…” She added in a mumble she hoped Jody didn’t hear.

She did.

“Let’s go!” She called, and Donna, Alex, and Patience appeared from their rooms. She narrowed her eyes on Claire and followed the others out of the room.

Claire repeated the motion to Kaia, who smiled innocently. “I’ll just – uh – go grab my jacket.” She said, backing into their room. Claire crossed her arms and waited angrily for Kaia to return. “Claire!”

“What?”

Kaia hurried back out of the room, carrying a box. Not a box… a container. “Claire… Where is the spider?!”

“The spider?” Claire repeated, feeling the blood drain from her face.

“Yes, the spider, Claire.”

“It – It’s not in the–”

Kaia glared and turned the empty container upside down. “No it’s not in here!”

“Oh my god… Where’s the spider!?”

The girls both ran back to their room, proceeding to ramshack it. “Claire, Kaia, what are–” Jack stopped in the doorway and looked inside the room, confused.

“Jack the spider… It’s gone!” Claire cried.

“The spider?” He repeated, still confused.

“The fucking spider!” Kaia screamed from her perch on the bed, using a broom to move pieces of clothes around the floor.

“Look!” Claire said. She sighed and reached out a hand to help Kaia leap from the bed to the doorway. “You two go. I’ll–” She paused to rethink the decision for a moment.  “I’ll find the spider.”

Jack and Kaia glanced at each other, hesitantly. “You sure?” Kaia asked.

“Mhmm… totally.” She totally was not sure, but no way in hell was she gonna be able to sleep with that eight legged freak on the loose.

🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Kaia : How’s it going?

Claire : Still no luck…

Claire looked at the ransacked room, and sighed.

Claire : How’s the tour?

Kaia : Really cool actually, we rode by the hotel… apparently some kid died there and the ghost haunts the place

Claire : Awesome, maybe it can help me find the damn spider.

Kaia : Lol. Just find it so I’ll be able to sleep tonight.

Easier said than done. Claire tossed the phone onto the bed and continued her journey of turning every item in the entire suite.

Nothing.

Dammit!

Claire…

It was a whisper. A small voice so soft if she hadn’t just stopped moving around spider hunting, she likely wouldn’t have heard it. Why it freaked her out, she wasn’t sure, but she instantly had chills all over her body as she looked around the room, confused. “H- Hello?” She called.

Claire…

This time there was no denying or explaining what she heard. Something had said her name. “Fuck this!” She hissed making her way back into her and Kaia’s room to grab her hunting bag.

Claire! ” The voice said loudly, seeming to be right behind her.

“What the-” Claire gasped and spun, an iron collapsible baton unfolding in her hand as she swung it back and forth towards the direction of the noise.

Then came laughter. Not just laughter, of course. Because while a disembodied laugh is scary on its own it fails in comparison to the soft giggles Claire heard. A child’s laughter.

Claire felt her blood run cold. She was brave, ok, but… not that brave. There was a line in her hunter handbook that made kid ghosts exponentially creepier. Add on top that she was alone, and in a house with a rogue spider running free… “I just had to offer to stay behind?” She sighed.
