Work Text:

It’s been a few months till Mikey has officially came out as trans and little later as bisexual, and she couldn’t be happier. A lot has changed such as her brothers using different nicknames like Michelle and Marcy. She also has acted and dressed more feminine, she copies April’s body language to appear more feminine and even speaks with a slightly higher pitched voice.

Even when either Marcy or her brothers correct a villain they immediately change their vocabulary, well all besides one. A lot of names were spouted in the fight, mainly targeting Mikey, which just fuelled their rage to fight back even more.

Seeing their little sister happier has excelled the mood of her family as well. Each time she beams a smile or insists she practice her makeup skills on them she radiates.

The Hamto family rested in the living room for the night, on a Jupiter Jim Marathon. Usually it was Raph quoting the movie, Leo making his cliché jokes he has said almost every time they watch it, Donnie finally looking from his screen. Instead this time all Raph, Leo, and Donnie hunched behind Donnie’s computer while sharing a notebook seemingly deep in thought which was odd for Raph and Leo.

Leo missed all his cues to joke and Raph missed all of his favourite quotes. Michelle peaked over Leo’s shoulder to look at what in the world could distract them from Jupiter Jim. She saw some notes of turtle DNA till Leo noticed her in the corner of his eye, he quickly pushed Mikeys face away in a panic.

“Hey! Get away, this is for your birthday!”

“Aw no fair now I wanna know even more!”

Marcy whined back, which Donnie interjected.

“I doubt you’d even understand what we’re doing, even I have to explain everything to these two. They’re only helping because they asked.”

Both Raph and Leo gave him a sour side eye, to which Marcy chuckled.

Over the course of a few days Mikey begged and begged to see what they had planned. Being caught each time she tried to steal the notebook from the lab.

Finally, March 6, Mikeys birthday. Mikey has always been the first one awake, at least the first one that’s up and ready. She’s the one who makes everyone breakfast and likes to doll herself up for the day even if they have no plans.

Today when Marcy woke up, dressed up, and went to the kitchen to cook she found her brothers and Aprils waiting in the main room. Well Raph and Leo fell back asleep piled onto one another, Donnie was on his phone, and April was obviously struggling to stay awake.

“Did someone die?”

Mikey asked jokingly, placing her hands on her hips with a confused eyebrow. Which startled them all awake.

Leo snorted-gasp as he was scared awake, Raph spoke.

“Michelle! Er good morning and happy-“ he yawned mid sentence “Happy birthday tiny.” Both of them stretched and rubbed their eyes.

Donnie tapped a button and from his battle shell popped the notebook everyone but Michelle had seen.

“Here, I know you’ve been dying to see this. Happy birthday Marcy. I really hope you like it and treat it differently from your puff suit.”

Donnie grinned anxious for her approval. Mikey couldn’t hold her excitement and wildly grabed the book from his hands.

“Finally!” She yelped.

Marcy thrillingly skim-read the first few pages. Almost every corner was covered in notes with very different handwriting, as it was shared between her brothers and April.

In the notes they connected turtle DNA and human DNA, taking their similarities and differences. Processes them through equations and the chemical estrogen, she didn’t understand.

In later pages they studied and noted another trans girl as she documented what she went through to transition.

It finally connected in her head, these were all notes to help her transition as a girl.

She gasps, covering her mouth with a hand. Warm tears leaked down her face landing on the notebook. Looking up with her mouth still dropped, she couldn’t believe it.

April smiled softly, reaching behind her she picked up a cupcake with a candle. She lit the tip of the candle with a lighter and stretched it to Mikey.

“Happy birthday Marcy.”

“We tried to make it from scratch, hopefully it doesn’t taste like shit. Happy birthday.”

Leo joked, earning a gasp from Raph

“Hey language!” Raph snapped back.

Leo grinned at his older brother, leaning back while closing his eyes.

Mikey, with slightly shaking hands, blew the candle out with a smile. She tightly hugged the three leaving Leo out as he had already gone back to sleep, she gave him his hug later.

Donnie explained the entire process giving her a step by step of it all. The changes and effects her body will go through, getting complete permission for it all.

Mikey started estrogen for the first time later that day, chemically different to fit her turtle DNA compared to one of a humans. They scheduled the more complex stuff for a few weeks later.

Marcy couldn’t be happier, she finally felt like this was her body and not anyone else. She didn’t stay up late crying over how she looked anymore. She didn’t hurt her throat, straining her voice from heightening her pitch. She didn’t have the urge to smash each mirror she saw herself in.

Nothing hurt anymore, she was just her and no one else. She’s finally felt at peace.
