Work Text:
Straining his arms, the pain was unbearable. Mikeys ears were ringing and his head was spinning. He felt sick to his stomach like he was about to lose his lunch then pass out.
Mikey felt the hand of both Raph and Donnie on his shoulders, taking part of the pain. Immediately he felt less ill, with the help of his brother’s burdening part of his pain he could funnel more energy into this portal.
Till finally a burst of energy spouted across the land, with a blinding light. Finally the portal opened, revealing the Kraang and his blue brother, Leo.
“I knew you guys would come back” Leo mumbled. Both Raph and Donnie reached out for him, as Leo wriggled around trying to airborne himself closer to his family.
Leo squirmed just close enough to brush against their contact. They pulled him closer and through the portal. Raph and Donnie hand immediately abandoned Mikeys shoulder to check Leo. Again leaving all the struggle to Mikey.
Mikeys eyes started to burn with tears and his ears rang, despite not being able to hear he called out to them.
“Is Leo alright?”
Stupidly, he turned his attention away from the portal and turned towards the group on the ground. Seeing the dismay of his brother's faces and their incoherent screams, he snapped back to the portal to close the Kraang within the realm.
Tears finally rolling down his cheek, he felt a shiver down his spine as he made eye contact with the god forbid Kraang.
He felt petrified, it wasn’t just eye contact.
No…
The Kraang was halfway out the portal. Directly in his face with a cruel smile.
Feeling disquietude course through every part of him. In blind horror his impulsive took over, throwing his leg wildly into the face of the creature.
With a yelp of pain the Kraang pulled back. But not without aggressively winding tentacles around the orange’s leg.
His chest was heavy with anxiety, inquietude dread cornering his mind. He felt the Kraang drag him down but he stood his ground, trying his best to gain his leg back.
He could barely hear the sobs and screams of his brothers. Mikey turned towards his brothers with pure fear and pain drawn across his face looking to them for guidance. It all happened so quickly no one knew what to do to help the youngest.
Straining his leg he felt a lightbulb go off in his head. It was horrificly bad idea and he knew how stupid it was but nothing else could be done.
He closed the portal, while Kraang still had a grip on his leg. He felt the sharp edges of the closing portals crushing his leg. He screamed, an ear piercing, bloody murder scream.
An unnerving crunching sound could be heard. Pure agony throbbed through him, tears rushing from his eyes.
The feeling of torture ached him, he fell down to ground now with one less leg then usual.
He ached, gripping the missing ligament. He felt the air leave his lungs shaking. It was somehow worse than opening the portal all by himself. Sobbing, his vision started to leave and all hearing was gone.
Mikey saw what he assumed was Donnie, tears prickling the corners of his eyes. Raph was behind him with Leo in his arms, both also crying.
Donnie was sitting on his knees, shaking his shoulders and patting his cheek. All the Hamtos have been injured enough to know that someone patting, shaking you and begging for you to ‘stay with them’ means don’t you dare go to sleep. But Mikey couldn’t hold on any longer, he felt his eyes grow heavy and felt the hazy take over.
He slipped into the darkness.
God knows how many hours later Mikey very slowly woke, his head felt foggy and his entire body thrived with pain. He turned his head to the left, clambering up into fetal position and saw Leo peacefully asleep. Wait, why was he in Leos room? Why is he on a bed and not in his hammock?
He sat up, but pure torment shot throughout him. He sharply breathed in and groaned in pain, he collapsed back onto the bed.
Now turning to the right he saw a door. Oh, medbay, that explains it. He looked around more, Raph had his arms crossed sleeping on a chair with his head leaned back, snoring with a new found eyepatch and bandages. Although Donnie was wide awake his eyes were red and puffy, Mikey heart broke at the scene. Donnie never cried or showed any emotion for that matter. Donnie was doting down notes, checking the stats of the IV Leo was hooked to.
He moaned in pain once more, which finally got the attention of his brother Donnie.
“Mikey? What happened are you alright?” His voice was dripping with stress.
The pain was growing worse by the second, Mikey could barely formulate a word.
“H-hurts…” His voice was gravely, it hurt to even speak.
Donnie anxiously rushed over to him. Doing a few check ups on the screen attracted to his arm.
“Oh, your pain medication seems to have worn out. Must’ve forgotten, apologizes Mikey”
Donnie tapped a few buttons, Mikey felt instant gratitude. He sighed in relief, now with his mind clear he raked together memories of what happened.
It was all so hazy with stress, like his mind was trying to suppress them all. What he could piece together was… oh god.
He peeled back the cover, lo and behold, his thigh was cut clean through with an ugly scar draped across the bottom. His stomach turned at the sight and felt hot tears sting his eyes.
Donnie saw the panic he was in, trying his best to comfort him despite it not being his strong suit.
“Oh uh- don’t fret dear Anglo, for I already have a plan for a prosthet! You will need to relearn how to walk, run, jump, and quote unquote ‘razzle dazzle’ the enemies. But soon enough life will be back to normal.”
Mikey didn’t care about the future, he cared about the now. Tears gently fell down his face, Donnie with obvious worry on how to comfort him hesitatingly held out his arms for a hug.
Mikey confusingly looked at Donnie, he knew he hated physical contact. But once Donnie gave him a small nod and nervous smile Mikey flung himself in his arms.
Squeezing him with a bone crushing hug, Donnie tensed with small panic but eventually relaxed.
Donnie shushed him, rubbing small circles on his shell. Eventually the tears stopped and his breathing became steady.
Donnie pulled back to resume his work but was stopped by the pull of Mikey.
“I presume you haven’t slept a wink yet, right?” Mikey getting into his Dr. Feelings persona.
Donnie sighed
“You presume correctly, but I can’t sleep now. I have to do a routine check on all of us! It would be irresponsible of me to rest now!”
“Ah-ah-ah I’m gonna stop you right there!”
Dr. Feelings butted in, placing a finger to Donnie’s mouth.
“You need to sleep! I don’t care what you say, how are we gonna have a thorough check up if our doctor is holding on by a cup of coffee! I mean you didn’t even hear me the first time I tried to sit up! Plus you need to heal too, your body heals you while you sleep… I think…” Dr. Feelings looked at Donnie for corrections
“Ah, not necessarily but you’re on the right track. But how will I know if you're alright if I’m not alert!”
Donnie whined back
“We’ll tell you! Plus you don’t look too alert right now, you’ll be better to help us if we need it after you rest.”
Donnie very obviously wanted to accept the offer but anxiety was coursing in him.
Dr. Feelings saw this and after a bit of thinking he came with a compromise
“Tell you what, you do one last check up on all of us and then you come to sleep with me but I’ll stay up and wake you if anything happens!”
Dr. Feelings put up his hand for them to shake on in.
Donnie’s face twisted a bit
“How about, I check up on everyone and you sleep but I’ll relax in the bed with you?”
“Deal!”
They shook on it.
Without a word Donnie stood and did his rounds one last time, after dotting down all his notes wandered back to where Mikey laid.
Mikey sat up and scrambled to the corner of the bed, giving him as much space as he could. Knowing Donnie probably didn’t want any physical contact. But much to Mikeys surprise, Donnie laid on his side wrapping an arm around the orange one, pulling the blanket over both of them.
Mikey tensed up, confused but eventually snuggled up to his brother. Closing his eyes with a wide grin, he felt safe with Donnie there with him.
He snickered as he heard Donnie immediately snoring softly as Mikey also slowly drifted asleep.
He knew the future would be grim for all of them, but he trusted himself and all his brother to be able to work through it all. Together.
