Work Text:
At last the creature emerged into the open, feeling the light on its skin for the first time. Its new domain stretched out as far as its many eyes could see. It was a truly wondrous thing: an unfamiliar world, ripe for exploration and fit for conquest. It turned around to get a full look at the landscape.
By the gods!
Looming from above, a being of such colossal size that it could traverse the entire landscape in moments, taking hold of a monolith almost surpassing its own head in size. Weapon in hand, the colossus turned around… and made direct eye contact with the beast, standing poised to attack.
Of course, the beast reflected, in a giant’s eyes beings such as itself were mere scraps of dirt, little more than imperfections to be swept away.
The giant began to swing the slab downwards, moving at a speed impossible for the beast to outrun even with all six of its legs. Puny wings, too weak to take flight, useless. Ending his glorious reign before it could even begin. The beast turned its gaze to the ground as the wall came down upon it, consigning it to oblivion. A moment before impact it closed its eyes, mourning the loss of an empire that would never come to be.
The monolith finally came down, obliterating it effortlessly.
Holly turned the book over, inspecting the remains of the moth with disgust. ‘You REALLY need to clean your keyboard.’
Adam glanced up from his phone. ‘I’ll do it later.’
