The Guardian Awakens

Summary:

A bomb with trigger gas goes off at the mall while 1-A are there, but the drug has an unexpected effect on Izuku.

Work Text:

Aizawa Shouta was to put in mildly pissed off. Of course his students couldn’t have a normal outing to the mall without something happening.

In this case some villains releasing a gas variant of trigger throughout the mall. Their motivation apparently being to help people “liberate” their quirks from the confines of society’s restrictions.

How exactly causing people to lose control of their quirks and go berserk was suppose to help with that Aizawa had no idea. Villains weren’t always logical.

Of course calling these people villains was probably inaccurate as they were more akin to terrorists who view themselves as freedom fighters, but that was besides the point. You commit a crime you’re a villain that’s how this hero saturated society worked.

Arriving at the mall he found other pro-heroes and police outside creating a perimeter around the building preparing to go in. Medical staff were also ready to go in when they got the all clear.

“Any casualties?” He asks the officer in charge.

“None so far.” The officer replies. “We had a few trigger victims make it out of the mall but we were able to subdue them with no problem.”

“Were any of them teenagers?” Aizawa asks.

“No.”

Great that meant they were all still inside. He was brought out of his thoughts by an approaching officer.

“Sir, we’re ready to go in.”

“Good, Eraserhead if you could take the lead?” The lead officer asks and Aizawa nods and moves to join the other pros who were being handed gas masks to protect them from any lingering trigger gas.

“It’s strange,” comments one pro. “You’d think there of been a lot more chaos if an entire mall got hit by trigger.”

“Based on what the civilians who managed to get out said the bomb went off in the heart of the mall. People who were out of the bomb’s range are probably okay.” Said another.

Upon entering the mall they found out why the destruction had been kept to a minimum.

Black tendrils of energy were everywhere throughout the mall. Reaching out holding victims of trigger down or up in the air immobilizing them preventing them from using their quirks to harm anyone or themselves.

“Sensei!” Yaoyorozu calls as she runs up to him wearing a gas mask. Aizawa doesn’t smile, but he is pleased that at least one of his students is okay.

“Yaoyorozu what is all this?” He motions to the black tendrils.

“You’re not going to believe this Sensei, but it’s Midoriya!”

“What?”

“I know it’s hard to believe but he’s at the center of the mall with hundreds of these black tendrils coming out of his body!” She explains. “He’s holding all the trigger victims in place with them!”

Well that technically was good news.

“Tell the medical staff they can come in with the antidote now.” He calls over the radio.

“Eraserhead?” Said one of the Pros who had come in with him.

“We don’t know how long Midoriya can hold all these people in place but we better not waste the chance he’s given us.” Aizawa replies before addressing Yaoyorozu.

“Take me to Midoriya and on the way tell me the status of your other classmates. Anyone else besides you avoid the gas?”

Yaoyorozu shakes her head in negative.

“I’m afraid not Sensei. It all happen very quickly..”

Damnit.

Aizawa was going to find the idiot quirk counselors who failed to help Midoriya understand his quirk and get their licenses revoked because whatever this was it was not super strength.

“I’ll lend you my family’s lawyers, Sensei.” Yaoyorozu offers.

Aizawa blinks, did he say that out loud?

Putting that moment aside he looks Midoriya over again. The boy was floating in the air, wisps of smoke pouring off him, he was clutching his head as if he was in pain (he probably was), and again there was of course the numerous black tendrils coming out of his body that had stopped what would of been a disastrous terrorist attack in its tracks.

Around him were the rest of his students all hanging limp most likely unconscious from the effects of trigger. Some like Bakugou, Todoroki, and Ashido were held notably held away from the others most likely because of their quirks. He could see the acid dripping from between Ashido’s binds and the frost covering the ones around Todoroki.

He notices Jirou is breathing heavily which was very concerning. It was then he recalls her sound quirk comes from her own heartbeats.

“I need medical personnel brought to the center of the mall right away. One of my students might be having a heart attack.” Aizawa calls out over the radio.

“On our way.” Came the reply.

To buy time Aizawa fixes his eyes on Jirou erasing her quirk which allows her breathing to settle down.

“Aizawa-sensei?”

That was Midoriya’s voice, but it was off most likely because of trigger.

“You are here are we safe now?”

It was like multiple overlapping voices speaking at once.

“Yes Midoriya you’re safe. Just hold out a bit longer so the medics can administer the antidote.”

“Okay.”

Aizawa wasn’t quite sure why Midoriya hadn’t gone berserk like everyone else and instead had restrained everyone, but he was grateful for it. It was illogical and sentimental, but maybe there was something to the idea of “heroic willpower”.

Finally, the medics arrive and one by one Midoriya lowers his classmates down to them loosening their restraints just enough to expose an arm for the medics to inject the antidote into. Once that was done he withdrew the black whips entirely recalling them back into himself.

“How is curing the rest of the mall going? The energy ropes giving you any trouble!” Aizawa asks a medic.

“Good and no. The ropes pretty much hand the victims off to us before withdrawing.”

This answer confuses Aizawa a bit. How could Midoriya be aware of what was happening around the mall? Did the energy ropes have some sort of sensory ability built into them?

He had more questions with each passing minute and he didn’t like it. However for now he’s put them aside and focus on the matter at hand.

Yaoyorozu was helping the medics by making stretchers with her quirk to start moving her classmates out of the mall.

Several hours later, the antidote had been administered to everyone in the mall save for one: Midoriya.

Aizawa watches as the last few of the energy ropes retract back inside of Midoriya who then floats down to the ground landing unsteadily on his feet. Aizawa grabs him before he has the chance to fall.

“Sensei? Can we sleep now? Tired.”

Still speaking with the overlapping voices. That wasn’t concerning at all, but that could be dealt with later.

“Yes Midoriya you can rest now. You did a good job kid.”

Aizawa lies him on the ground and steps back to allow a medic to inject Midoriya with the antidote.
