The café was fully decorated. Bunting and banners were all up, a Jack-O-Lantern sat on the counter, all the tables had a Halloween themed candle holder on it. Ccino had brought out his Halloween mugs and ordered in his Halloween take out cups. The cakes he baked were all Halloweened themed as well with ghost shaped gingerbread, witch cupcakes, chocolate cake with a spooky cat face, toffee apples and pumpkin pies. Everything was all set up ready for all the Halloween parties families had booked at his café as well for the general public who’d visit during the spooky season.
Well everything was almost ready. Ccino and Colour were yet to receive their costumes… Their daughter, Jasmine had insisted on taking care of that part and she’d wanted it to be a surprise. So Ccino and Colour gave her some money and they hired Miracle to take her shopping while he babysat her. Ccino was slightly worried about leaving his daughter with Nightmare’s son but the teen seemed responsible and really was a sweet young man… Colour was just worried that Killer’s son would encourage Jasmine to get something ridiculous…
“What about this? It’s pretty funny,” Miracle said as he pulled a costume out of the racks. They were in a costume shop looking for something perfect but Miracle had very little to work on since all Jas had mentioned was that it had to be perfect.
Jasmine looked at the take out coffee costume and hummed. “No… It’s good, just not perfect.”
“I think you might need to elaborate more on ‘perfect,’ you know…”
“I’ll know it when I see it.”
“Right… You know we can’t be gone long, if my dad finds out I left the café he won’t be happy.”
“I know… Just a little longer…”
Miracle sighed as he watched his little cousin rummage around the kids’ costumes. The store was mobbed, with it being so close to Halloween there were a lot of people looking for the perfect costume and Miracle felt uncomfortable. He wasn’t used to crowds being so sheltered growing up, there were so many people… And hiding his soul under his shirt was never pleasant; it wasn’t meant to be there.
A loud gasp brought Miracle out of his thoughts and he turned back to his cousin to see her pulling out a rainbow fairy costume. The skirt was sparkly, poofy and pleated, each pleat a different colour of the rainbow, the shirt was a pale pink with different colours of buttons going all the way down. The wings it came with were also rainbow coloured… It seemed like it was the most colourful costume in the shop.
“Now this is perfect!” Jasmine said happily, “it’s rainbow like Papa is!”
“Huh, I suppose that works, is it your size?” Miracle asked as he took the packet from Jasmine to check. “It is, you want it?”
“Yes! And that unicorn horn headband I saw at the front! I’m gonna be a unicorn fairy!”
“A unicorn fairy huh… Well at least you aren’t wanting to be the knight while I’m the captured princess again…”
“That’s a fun game!”
“Right… So what about your parents?”
“Mama will be a fairy and Papa will be a unicorn!”
A smirk slowly appeared on Miracle’s face, that was hilarious. They’d look so funny and he knew Colour wouldn’t be impressed. Which is why he was going to encourage it; he was his mother’s son after all. Killer would love to hear about how they’d gotten Colour into a unicorn costume.
“Okay, so let's look for those in the adult section.”
“I wanna make it!”
“Huh?” Miracle looked at her in surprise. “Make it?”
“Yeah, it’ll be better that way!”
“And how will you make it?”
“Hmm… Well I can make Mama wings out of cardboard! And I can make Papa a unicorn tail with ribbons and a belt and a cardboard horn!”
“And the rest of the costumes?”
“Hmm… Let’s buy plain pink t-shirts and fabric pens!”
Miracle was quiet for a bit as he thought over what Jasmine said before he smiled. He really wanted to see that. “Jas, you’re a genius! I can’t wait to see Uncle Colour in that! And of course Uncle Ccino will look amazing too!”
“You really think so?”
“Of course, let's go pay and get to the next shop. We’ve got to be back at the café before Dad checks in and finds me gone… I don’t want to think about the freak out that would cause…”
It didn’t take Jasmine long to make the costumes. She rolled some thin cardboard into a cone, she planned to put some tape onto it in order to attach it to Colour’s head. She glued ribbons to a cheap belt to make a tail and made fairy wings out of card and two purple ribbons to attach them to her mother. The shirts were quickly decorated with the fabric pens; Ccino’s with butterflies and flowers while Colour’s was with stars and rainbows. The costumes were perfect and Miracle was determined to get a picture or two of the three of them all dressed up.
“Well then, shouldn’t you get your costume on? Your parents will be home soon,” Miracle said as he put away the art supplies.
“Yes!” Jasmine was up quickly and was quick to grab her costume. The sudden movement made some cats jump up as well but they were quick to settle down again when they saw Jasmine running off to change.
Miracle let out a sigh as he watched her go. This was going to be so funny and he was really looking forward to it. He loved Halloween and seeing his cousin so excited made it all the better. He really knew he was in for a good laugh.
“Meow!”
The sudden meow made Miracle look down as he saw his own cat get up and stretch. Miracle smiled at her as she hopped off the cat tree where she’d been napping and batted a mouse toy away from another cat.
“Hey, come on Diamond, play nice with your friends.”
That only got him another meow as Diamond playfully jumped onto the other cat. There were lots of reasons Miracle liked coming here; his little cousin was great, he got a little more freedom, the cats were so cute and Diamond got to play with her friends. He’d have to go home soon though, as much as he wanted to he couldn’t stay.
The sound of the door opening brought the teen out of his thoughts as he saw Ccino and Colour walk in. He smiled at them happily, he really couldn’t wait to see their reactions to the costumes Jas had made.
“Welcome home!”
“Hello,” Ccino said with a smile. “Did you two have fun? Did you get the costumes?”
Miracle grinned widely at that, it was mischievous and Colour frowned a little, knowing that it couldn’t be good. “We sure did! Jas is just changing, she should be out soon.”
“I don’t like that look on his face…” Colour muttered, “he looks too much like his mother when he’s planning something.”
“Oh I’m sure it’s fine,” Ccino reassured. “Jas? Are you going to come out?”
At her mother’s call Jasmine opened the door, her costume on and she grinned up at them. “Here I am!”
“Huh, a fairy,” Colour stated as he looked his daughter up and down.
“A unicorn fairy!” Jasmine corrected with her hands on her hips and a frown on her face.
“Ah, sorry, a unicorn fairy…”
“Miracle, let’s show them what I made for them!”
“Sure thing,” Miracle smiled as he picked up Colour’s costume while Jasmine went for Ccino’s.
The couple looked at each other, there was a lot of pink in that…
“I made them myself!” Jasmine said as she handed over the costume to Ccino.
“She worked hard on them,” Miracle said as he handed Colour his.
“They’re very… Pink…” Colour said as he looked over his costume. He should have known this would happen, if Killer ever found out he’d rub it in for sure. It wasn’t something he’d normally wear but he knew Jas would be upset with him if he didn’t and he didn’t want to upset his daughter. For her he would just deal with it.
“You gotta put it on!” Jasmine said as she bounced a little, making her parents look at each other again… They couldn’t say no to their daughter… Not when she looked so happy about it… But they’d have to wear this while serving customers…
“Of course, sweetie,” Ccino said as he began to walk towards the back. “Come on, Colour, let's just get it over with.”
“Yeah I suppose. Keep your phone in your pocket, Miracle! I don’t want Killer to see me in this!” Colour meant it, he knew what his nephew was like and he knew what his best friend was like too. This wouldn’t be nearly as big of a deal if it wasn’t for Killer.
Miracle rolled his eyes and waved them on. That wasn’t going to happen, he was so taking a picture.
“I just know you’ll love them!” Jasmine called after them with a giggle.
It didn’t take them long to change, since all they needed to change was their shirts and add the accessories. Colour sighed when he was changed, he was sure he looked ridiculous but he knew it’d make his little girl happy.
“Don’t look so sad, Colour, you look great!” Ccino said with a giggle. Colour did look silly but it was all in good fun and while Ccino felt a little uncomfortable in his, he still found it cute.
“It’s for Jas,” Colour said mainly to himself and forced a smile. “We better get out there and tell her we love them…”
“Yeah, we really should… Ready?”
“As I’ll ever be.”
Jasmine squealed when she saw them and went running up to them. “You guys look amazing! This is gonna be the best Halloween ever!”
Colour and Ccino could only laugh awkwardly. The costumes were not something they would have picked but seeing how happy Jasmine was they couldn’t help but feel happy too. At least this would give their customers a good laugh as well.
“It is well made…” Colour said as he lifted one arm to scratch the back of his head uncomfortably.
“Yeah, you’re so smart and such a good artist,” Ccino said as he grabbed his arm.
Miracle could tell his uncles were a little uncomfortable in those costumes and to him that made it so much better. Not just for the negativity it gave him but it just made it funnier, his mother was going to love this.
Sneakily Miracle slipped his hand into his pocket and took out his phone. While they were still distracted he opened his camera app and held it up. Now all he needed was for Jasmine to turn around…
“Hey, Jas! Say cheese!”
Jasmine spun around quickly and lifted one foot off the ground so she could get into a cute pose. “Cheese!”
Miracle took the picture quickly before his uncles knew what he was doing. He laughed when he saw the picture, it was perfect. “Yes!”
“No! Do not send that to Killer!” Colour said quickly. He really should have known and taken Miracle’s phone off of him and just had Jasmine give it back to him before he left, with Colour out of the room.
“Sorry, Uncle Colour, it’s too late, I sent it.”
“Oh no…”
“Maybe it won’t be that bad?” Ccino asked.
Colour shook his head. “It’s Killer… He’ll make fun of me for sure…”
“Well, you could just get revenge on him?” Miracle suggested. “Have Jas make him a costume next year?”
“It’s Killer, he’ll like it.”
“Oh! Uncle Killer should be a mermaid!” Jasmine said quickly. “We have a fairy and a unicorn all we have missing is a mermaid! And Uncle Killer is married to an octopus!”
The other three couldn’t help but laugh at that. It was a very funny mental image to have Killer dressed as a mermaid while Nightmare was forced into an octopus onesie again.
“You know what?” Miracle said as he bent down to Jasmine’s height. “I think he’ll love that. I think you should go for it!”
“Really?”
“Of course, I’ll let him know that next year you’re going to make him the best mermaid costume ever!”
“Oh I will! I really will!”
“And don’t worry Uncle Colour, I’ll send you pictures~”
“You cheeky little-” Colour was interrupted by Ccino lightly elbowing him, stopping him from swearing in front of Jasmine. “You really are just like your mother.”
“The negativity is great too, you know.”
“Yeah… At least you’re not as bad as Nightmare. By far. I actually like you.”
“Well I sure hope you do, Uncle.”
“Miracle is the best, he’s so fun!” Jasmine piped in happily. “I wish he could stay for the parties.”
“Aww I’m sorry,” Miracle said, he really wanted to stay and have a Halloween party at the café but he knew that his father would never allow that; there would be too many people and he didn’t trust them. “I do have to go home at some point though.”
“Couldn’t you go home after though?”
“You know my dad doesn’t want me around people; he doesn’t trust them.”
“Aww,” Jasmine looked disappointed; she’d really wanted Miracle to stay, it would have been a lot of fun.
“Don’t worry,” Ccino cut in, “Miracle will be back another time and he has his own family’s party to go to.”
“Yeah, I’ll still have fun and we’ll both have lots of pictures to show each other after.”
Jasmine frowned and sighed. “Alright… But you have to show me lots of funny pictures! I want to see what Uncle Killer dressed up as!”
“I think he was planning vampires this year. He said something about owing Dad a costume he would like after the years of silly ones.”
“Aww so no funny ones this year…”
“Well there will be one next year…”
“I can’t wait!”
Miracle’s phone going off bought Miracle’s attention away and he pulled it out again. “Oh, Mum’s sent a crying laughing emoji.”
“Of course he did… He’s getting a good laugh out of this…” Colour said with a sigh. The costume really wasn’t that bad but Colour really would have preferred something scary but he should have really known that letting his daughter and nephew pick his costume would turn out like this.
“And he says he’s coming here to see it in person.”
“Oh joy…” Colour said. He was in for a long night…
Ccino just laughed. He wasn’t as embarrassed by his costume as Colour was. He thought they were cute and their little girl had made them. He knew Colour would stick it out though, he’d never upset Jasmine like that. “Don’t worry love, I'm sure Killer won’t be here long.”
“I sure hope so…”
The sound of a portal opening had them all turning to the door to see one of Nightmare’s and Killer jumped out. He was in a full vampire costume, shirt, vest and cape all on as well as fake fangs on with fake blood running down his chin.
“Sup!” Killer said as he grinned at Colour. “Well look at that pretty unicorn!”
“Killer,” Colour said, his tone warning but Killer just kept grinning at him.
“I made Mama and Papa really pretty!” Jasmine said as she ran up to Killer happily.
“You sure did, I’m pretty jealous since they look so good!”
“Well I’m gonna make you pretty next year!”
“Oh? You are?”
“Uncle Killer will be a mermaid!”
“That sounds great! I can’t wait! And I can force Nightmare back into the octopus onesie!”
“Exactly my thought!” Miracle said with a smirk. “I guess it’s true, great minds think alike!”
“It’ll be so much fun! I hope you guys enjoy all the parties you’re hosting, I’m sure it’ll be fun!”
Colour sighed as he looked down, the unicorn tail had attracted some of the cats who were now pawing at the ribbons and trying to bat and pull at them. He really was in for a long night but when he looked at his daughter and how happy she looked it just made it all worth it. If she was happy then Colour was happy, he could put up with Killer making fun of him if it kept a smile on Jas’s face.
Killer was distracted right now anyway. He’d come to make fun of Colour but instead he found himself sitting on the floor playing with a cat and talking to Jasmine about what he wanted his mermaid costume to look like. He really was so good to her…
“I’m gonna make a tail with a skirt!” Jasmine said happily as Killer nodded along with her. “The fins can be cardboard and I’ll make it a pretty redish pink! Oh maybe I can use glitter paint! You’ll be the prettiest mermaid!”
“I bet I will be! …Now what about Miracle, will he be a mermaid too?”
“Of course! He already has tentacles for the octopus part! He can have a pink tail too!”
Miracle blushed at what his cousin said. “Wait, I have to be a mermaid too?”
“Yeah, your mama will be a mermaid so you have to be too!”
“You get to be a vampire this year, next you’re totally being a mermaid!”
“...Can’t I be an octopus?”
“You already have the tentacles! You’ll be an octopus mermaid!” Jasmine giggled. “This is so fun!”
“That’s a good idea,” Miracle agreed, when he saw how happy she looked. “I can’t wait for next year now.”
“We gotta get through this year first, Kiddo,” Killer said with a smile, “and you have to get your costume on.”
“Yeah I do… It’s a shame we can’t just have our party here as well but it is what it is… I assume Dad wants us home pretty soon?”
“Yeah, Ccino has his first party to host soon anyway.”
Miracle nodded and sighed before he turned to his cousin and gave her a hug, being careful of the wings. “Have fun, Jas. Take lots of pictures for me.”
“I will!” Jasmine said happily, “we’re all set up for the parties now! I can’t wait!”
“I bet it’ll be loads of fun,” Killer agreed as he reached out to pat Jasmine’s head. “Hope you have lots of tricks planned.”
“I do!”
“Please don’t prank Karens…” Ccino said with a sigh. Jasmine really did get too protective of him when it came to Karens.
“No promises!”
“That’s my girl!” Killer said proudly; he’d trained his niece well and couldn’t wait to hear the stories afterwards.
“You know I’m not going to let any customers be rude to you either,” Colour chimed in. “No matter how I’m dressed I will fight someone for you.”
“There’s no need for violence.”
“I didn’t mean that kind of fight…”
Killer and Miracle laughed at the exchange before Miracle turned to open a portal home. As sad as he was that he had to leave, he knew the party at the castle would be so much fun as well.
“See you guys later!” Miracle called before he walked through with Killer following behind him.
Killer stopped before he went through though and turned around to kneel before Jasmine. “Oh! Before I forget, I’ve got a Halloween treat for my favourite niece!”
Jasmine did a little jump in excitement as Killer handed her a big bag of chocolate eyeballs. She looked down at them happily as they were handed over. “Oh! Yummy!”
“Now, Jas, what do you say to Uncle Killer?” Colour said, his tone firm.
“Thank you, Uncle Killer!”
“Just don’t eat them all at once,” Killer said with a cheeky wink. “Have fun at the parties you guys! I’ll catch up with you later! …Also looking good, Colour!”
Colour only had a chance to roll his eye before Killer ran through Miracle’s portal and it closed. He turned away, shaking his head but he smiled; as silly as he looked he knew he was in for a fun Halloween.
“Right, all the prep is done,” Ccino said as he began walking to the door. “Let’s let the customers in.”
The curtains and blinds were opened and the door unlocked. Jasmine insisted on turning the sign over and they were officially open and ready to serve the public. They were probably going to get a lot of comments on their costumes but they’d tell people proudly that their daughter made it. Today was going to be a good day.
Ccino turned to his little family and smiled. Both Jasmine and Colour had turned to the cats who seemed to be very interested in playing with the ribbon tail. Ccino loved them so much and he knew that they’d have so much fun that even Karens couldn’t destroy his good mood.
They weren’t dressed the scariest and the café was very cutesy but they were going to make sure it was going to be the most fun place for all parties in the Multiverse, even Halloween ones.
