Chapter 1: catch and rescue

Chapter Text

It was supposed to be a normal mission. In and out in less than a varga and a half. Pidge had gone alone, as this was an intelligence-gathering mission, and only the green lion had cloaking.

– - –

A varga passed. Then another. Pidge hadn’t come back yet. It was at that point that they realized the ship had escaped. Instead of hyper-jumping, which would be obvious, they’d just…slowly moved away.

– - –

Pidge sat in their cell. They didn’t know how long it had been since they were captured. The ship did have day and night cycles as far as they could tell, but the lighting was always dim in their cell. They were eternally grateful that their basic hygiene needs had been met. There was a shower, although it only had one setting: cold. There was a sink, and they’d been provided a toothbrush and toothpaste. There was a toilet. However, they were not provided with anything to do, leaving them to feel like they were going to go insane with boredom.

They’d tried fighting back at first, of course. They’d quickly learned that only got them tortured even more. Besides, they were starving and badly injured.

– - –

The door opened, and Pidge flinched back. They only ever opened the door when they were going to-it wasn’t the Galra. Or the druids. At least, it didn’t look like them. It looked like their team, their second family.

“Pidge!” The group exclaimed as one.

“This isn’t a dream, too vivid for that, besides that, I’m in considerable pain. I doubt I’m hallucinating. That leaves that either this is real, or the druids have decided to go for psychological torture instead of the usual. Pidge muttered to themself. They raised their voice. “And don’t try to say that this is real. There's no way to prove that.” Shiro stepped forwards.

“Can you walk?”

“I doubt it.”

“Can I pick you up?”

“Yeah. Even if this is fake, I might as well enjoy it while it lasts.” Shiro picked them up, and they leaned in, resting their head against his chest.

“Ok. Let's get out of here.”  Pidge wanted to be on guard, but they’d vowed to make the most of this even if it was fake, and so they let themself rest in Shiros arms.
