Robin was sitting in front of Mount Justice’s computer, gathering intel on a suspect in a recent case that he and Batman were working on. The cave was empty, for once, he supposed it was only natural. Tonight was All Hallow’s Eve, his teammates were probably off at a party or trick or treating. Robin sighed a bit, leaning back and looking up at the dull ceiling, there was a ‘verr’ from the Zeta and then a whooshing that indicated Wally’s presence, he probably forgot something here.
The speedster halts on the way out, stopping behind here Robin was sitting, “Rob? What are you still doing here?” Wally asks, walking up to stand next to his best friend. He was dressed up like a zombie, it was a simple costume but one that wouldn’t take too much damage from the speed force.
“I’m gathering intel for a case.” Robin replied simply, now looking back at the screen.
“On halloween?” Wally asked, as if he was appalled to hear that Robin was working instead of trick or treating like a little kid.
“Wally, I haven't celebrated Halloween since I was nine.” He explained, not looking up at the speedster. He hasn’t had time for holidays since becoming Robin, he used to miss the celebrations that they would have in the circus, but he’s forgotten a lot of those feelings.
“What? No way…” Wally said, he made a face like he had just been stabbed, then he pressed on his com, “Guys, we have a code Childhood in the cave.”
Robin looked up at his friend, “A code what?” He asked, having a feeling that they had used this before.
“Ya know, code Childhood, for when the baby of the team isn’t getting a proper childhood and we have to help out.” Wally explains, looking nervous in the face of Robin’s scrutinizing stare.
After a while, the rest of the team Zetaed in, everyone with something different to hold. M’gann and Connor had eerie-looking decorations, Artemis had candy, and Kaldur had a costume and some makeup. They were each dressed as something different, Connor was a mummy, again, M’gann was a mushroom, Artemis was a voodoo doll, and someone had managed to convince Kaldur to be Ariel from The Little Mermaid. They were talking as they walked in and immediately started decorating the room, Artemis even found the original Ghostbusters to watch. Once they had finished, and Robin had snapped out of the trance he was in from working on this case, Kaldur scooped up their youngest teammate and placed him outside of his room with a costume in his hands. It was a Superman costume, funny. The mask looked a little weird with it, but he supposes that couldn’t be helped.
Robin walked out once he was done changing and was immediately dragged over to the couch by M’gann who had managed to bake cupcakes decorated like little monsters in the time that it took him to change from one costume to another. Robin was squished between M’gann and Kaldur on the couch as they watched the movie. Eventually it was over and Wally picked Scream to watch next. Despite putting himself in dangerous situations everyday since he was nine, Robin never did too well with horror movies, so he jumped at every scare and tensed at all the intense scenes. Kaldur wrapped his arm around Robin and let the kid hide in his torso when he needed to. The next movie was not a horror movie.
Nearing ten o’clock is when the group got up and dragged Robin to Central City, where they went house to house with little plastic bags and were given an assortment of candies. Robin found this strange, it was unlike how Halloween was celebrated in the circus, with the mix of cultures and traditions making for a great night for all involved, but never did they go trick-or-treating.
“Aren’t you kid’s a little old to be trick-or-treating?” One lady asked as they stood on her porch, Kaldur smiled at her and pointed to Robin, whispering something in the woman’s ear. He let out a quiet ‘oh’ and handed then each a candy, unmistakably giving Robin two rather than one.
As eleven thirty approached, and porch lights started to go out, the group headed back to Mount Justice. Kaldur was carrying a tired Robin and the whole group was smiling. When they got back to the cave, Batman was waiting there. The group froze, minus Robin who had fallen asleep on the way to the Zeta.
Batman cleared his throat, “Good work tonight team. I’ll… I’ll take Robin.” He said, and rushed to grab his son and leave. He left the team astonished as they looked at each other. Mission completed.
