Do you think I’m spooky?

Summary:

The first time the Team heard Robin laugh, none of them expected it. Sure, Robin smiled and joked and made fun but he never laughed.

Work Text:

The afternoons after missions were always spent in each other’s company. Kaldur insisted on them all at least doing a check in before leaving to their own tasks, but most of the time it ended with the group playing a game or watching a movie to wind down. Today was no different.

“Sorry Sliders!” Wally yelled with glee as he hit two of M’gann’s pieces off the board, he was very adamant that they had to call it out every time.

“No fair!” M’gann whined, those were her last two pieces.

“If you were on this surface, you’d be sliding too.” Conner said, looking over at Wally, who’d coincidentally slipped on ice earlier that day.

A few laughs started up but died off quickly when Robin’s laugh— well, cackle —joined them. The group turned their heads to the youngest of their team, who had now clasped a hand over his mouth. Robin’s eyes were wide behind his glasses, enough so that the taller of the group could see hints of white from behind them.

“What was that Rob?” Artemis asked, trying to make it sound like a joke, but the laugh had given her chills. It sounded like the Cheshire Cat.

“My… my laugh.” The boy responded, hand horns from his mouth in order to hold a defensive stance from where he was sitting.

“That was… spooky.” M’gann added, looking slightly away from Robin, who had tensed up at her comment. He didn’t say anything else, he didn’t hear any other comments either, while he walked back to his room.

“What the hell guys?” Wally asked, drawing all the other’s attention to himself, “That type of reaction is probably why he doesn’t laugh around us.” He said, gesturing wildly with his hands.

“Sorry,” Conner shrugged, “His laugh is creepy.”

“I can’t believe you guys.” Wally said, and he stormed off as well.

Wally paused outside of Robin’s— Dick’s —room. He gently knocked on the door and waited, when Dick answered he was just finishing wiping his eyes.

“Hey Dick… you alright?” The speedster asked, he leaned against the door frame rather than stepping into his friend’s space.

“I… I shouldn’t have laughed. Now you all think I’m weird and… spooky.” He answered, curling in on himself a bit. Wally left the door and closed it behind him, he carefully took Dick into a hug.

   “I don’t think you’re spooky.”
