Work Text:

Matthew sat on one of the chairs in the Avengers Tower’s common space with Clint during one of their “Disabled Superhero Bonding Nights”, as Clint called it. He knew that Bruce was bringing someone new over to meet the team so their one-on-one hang out had ended early, now the duo sat with the rest of the team to await Bruce’s arrival. Matt heard Bruce pull in, then he heard the heartbeat of the “new person”, his heart skipped a few beats. He had to be hearing things, it couldn’t be… no, she would have told him, right? Matt listened closer as the two made their way up the elevator and then they were standing in the common area as well.

“Jennifer.” Natasha said, her voice as excited as it gets with her. The name, the heartbeat, the fact that Bruce brought her…

“Jen?” Matt asked, just audible enough to be heard by the group. Jennifer’s breath caught in her throat and then she was walking towards him, then her arms were around him and he knew it was her, really her.

“Hi Matty.” Her voice was calm and steady but her heart was fast. They hadn’t been able to see each other in nearly two years, dating long distance instead. The others in the room looked curiously at the couple, well, okay, maybe telling the Avengers about their relationship would have been a good call a while ago.

“You guys… know each other?” Tony asked, he looked between were Jen had just let go of Matt and Bruce, who just shrugged.

“Oh uh…” Jen looked back at Matt, who just nodded to her, “We’ve been together almost two years now.”

“What?” A few struck Avengers asked, namely Tony, Steve, and Clint, while the others just looked at their verbal teammates. They watched a small smile form on Matt’s face as Jen used his head as an armrest instead of using the back of a chair like a normal person.

“You can smile?” Tony asked again, looking between his team and the vigilante that they slightly adopted.

“Oh my god Matthew, do you not smile around them?“ Jen asked, exasperated, like this was an inside joke that only she really understood. Tony looked at the two and then it clicked.

“Hm.. you guys are kind of the perfect couple, aren’t you? You’re both lawyers and vigilantes so you understand each other. Based on the trial of She-Hulk’s name, Jennifer was unable to find someone who didn’t only like her one way, but Matt probably couldn’t give less of a shit cause he’s both a genuine person and blind, and Jennifer is understanding enough to deal with Matt’s ‘I’m a scary vigilante’ complex and his Catholic guilt!” Tony rambled off, getting louder with each point made, Jen leaned over to Matt.

“Did we just get psychoanalyzed by billionaire, playboy, philanthropist Tony Stark?” She asked, slightly playful in her tone.

“I think we did.” Matt nodded, an amused look on his face. This would be a great team.
