{ kiss #1: mornings are the best. }
Mornings are Mingyu’s thing.
No, really. He sleeps on the side of the bed closer to the windows, so on his day off (Monday), he gets to stare at the sunlight coating Jihoon’s features beautifully. Not only that, but in bed is really the only time the two get to kiss comfortably. Realistically, it shouldn’t be an issue, but Mingyu always wonders about the girls who want their partner to be miles taller than them. The 20 centimetres between him and Jihoon feel like 20 kilometres whenever they’re standing, and while it’s cute, it’s also inconvenient.
Enough about height. Jihoon opens his eyes (after faking sleeping for 6 minutes because he knows that Mingyu loves to stare at him in the mornings) and smiles softly at his boyfriend, whispering a quiet, “good morning.”
“Morning, Ji.” Mingyu presses a soft kiss to the older’s forehead, deeming it just enough to seem normal. He totally isn’t thinking about kissing. No, Mingyu doesn’t do that.
“You’re thinking about kissing, aren’t you?”
“Oh, damni–” Mingyu cuts himself off, sighing. “Am I that obvious?”
Jihoon rolls his eyes, scooting closer to the younger. “This is going to be our most comfortable kiss. C’mere.”
He pulls Mingyu in and kisses him, and the latter melts into the pillows. Sure, Jihoon’s the smaller one and he dresses more femme, but he’s definitely the more romantic one between the two. Heck, Mingyu’s the little spoon whenever they go to bed.
Whatever. Jihoon’s already pulling away before Mingyu can think any more, and he smiles. “Now this is a good morning.”
The younger tries to hide his blush. “Are you going to the gym today?”
“Yeah, why?”
“Your arms are too big.” Mingyu pokes at Jihoon’s arm. “You’re going to be more jacked than I am.”
“Well, that’s that.” The older yawns here, sitting up and rubbing his eyes. Once he’s woken up a little more, he stands up and walks over to the curtains on Mingyu’s side. The latter ignores that Jihoon’s still the same height as he was sitting up.
God, he’s adorable.
Mingyu takes a deep breath before he rises from the bed, shuffling over to Jihoon to engulf him in a back hug. “Should we go eat or shower first?”
The older pats his hands. “How about you go eat and I go shower?”
“Fine.” Mingyu pouts, but detaches himself from Jihoon. “We’re going to the gym together, though.”
“Fine by me.”
{ kiss #2: gyms are… well… }
Jihoon has a love-hate relationship with the gym. While he does love working out, there’s a few points to keep in mind. For one, he can never really crossdress there. There was the one time that he had worn a sports bra and Mingyu had nearly lost his mind, but that didn’t count. The second thing is adjusting some of the machines to his height, and the third is the fact that he can’t really be close to Mingyu.
Especially when he’s on the thigh abductor.
Jihoon huffs as he does another rep on the half rack, his back starting to burn. Really, he needs to focus on what he’s doing. He lives with Mingyu. He sees him all the time. Hell, he is literally on the other side of the room.
It’s a little funny. Two years of dating and Jihoon still can’t go long without being attached to the younger.
I’m not doing another ten reps.
He places things back where they had been, walking over to Mingyu. He leans against the wall beside the machine. “Hello, Kim Mingyu.”
“You’re giving me deja vu,” the younger replies. “Remember when Seungcheol and BooSeokSoon introduced us to each other? We were gym bros.”
“Yeah, until I caught you not-so-platonically moaning my name while you were jacking off in the shower.”
“I was a horny teenager!”
“You were 23, Gyu.”
“As if you were any better.” Mingyu narrows his eyes playfully. “You forced your way into the stall and sucked me off.”
“I did what needed to be done.”
Mingyu rolls his eyes before carefully getting off the machine. “Let’s stretch and go home?” Like always, his statement is more like a question than anything else.
Jihoon nods, wiping at the sweat on his forehead. “I can’t wait to go home and do absolutely nothing.”
The younger hums in agreement, rubbing his thighs. The two went through a quick stretching routine before they headed off to the locker room. Jihoon doesn’t exactly pay much attention to what he’s doing until he’s staring at Mingyu’s bare chest in the shower. If he’s doing thigh workouts, how is he so…
Jihoon steps forward and kisses Mingyu’s sternum.
Speaking of the latter, he’s in the middle of rinsing off his body. Jihoon had been underneath the stream of water, but hadn’t been moving, so his sudden action has Mingyu taking a step back. “What?”
“What?”
“No, no.” Mingyu shakes his head, eyes squeezed shut as a trickle of water runs into it. This showerhead really needs to be raised up. “What?”
“I just felt like it.” Jihoon shrugs and steps under the water again (he’d drifted away). Mingyu stands and thinks for a moment before also taking a step forwards, kissing Jihoon’s forehead. It’s at lip height, after all.
The older notices, scoffing a little. “So we’re just kissing what’s in reach now?”
“It makes sense.” Mingyu turns off the water, shrugging at the same time. He grabs the two towels from the hooks they’re on and drapes one over Jihoon’s shoulders.
“Looks like chivalry isn’t dead,” the latter deadpans, breaking the serious tone and chuckling a little bit at the end of the sentence.
Mingyu throws him a cheesy smirk, already leaning down to press a kiss to Jihoon’s cheek. He really wants to kiss him. “I really want to kiss you right now.”
“You just did,” Jihoon jokes before turning to Mingyu. “But please, be my guest.”
“Huh? Oh, no, it was just a thought I had.”
“So act on it.”
“Well… okay, I do want to kiss you right now, but it’s not–”
Jihoon sighs and then does the most adorable thing that Mingyu has seen, which also happens to be a kiss tip. The older stands on his toes, but the latter is still way too tall and his kiss to the lips ends up being a kiss to the chin.
“You’re supposed to bend down.”
Mingyu smiles. God, Jihoon is adorable. “Matter of fact, I won’t.”
And the older lets out the most unsatisfied sigh. “Maybe chivalry is dead.”
{ kiss #3: sex is fun and games sometimes. but only sometimes. }
Sex is not the greatest comfort for Jihoon and Mingyu. Since we’ve established that their biggest (i.e. only) issue in their relationship is their height difference, we don’t have to go into detail as to why it’s just so difficult.
It’s not like they don’t do it, though. When they get back from the gym, neither of them are very tired, so they seize the opportunity.
Sex is a weird time from Mingyu because it’s the only time he sees Jihoon relatively weak. They have very vanilla bedroom lives, but he’s sure that the look on the older’s face would be added to if they were into more unnamed things.
“How do I do this?”
“You’ve ruined the mood.”
The blissful look on Jihoon’s face has gone back to its normal stone-hard-and-unbreakable expression, which is, to say the least, not very impressed with the words that just came out of his boyfriend’s mouth.
“It’s a valid question.” Really. It is. Mingyu knows he’ll have to curl his back up if he wants to kiss Jihoon while things happen, which he’s not doing, so he’s choosing this as the moment they cut off all of their kissing.
He leans down to capture Jihoon’s lips, but is met with plain skin. Mingyu opens his eyes again to see that Jihoon has covered his mouth, an annoyed expression on his face. “Really?”
The younger starts to reply, but then he remembers that he can’t exactly speak at the moment. He pulls away from Jihoon’s hand. “What?”
“You’re giving me major turn-off energy.”
Mingyu rolls his eyes. Hey, at least they can laugh a little during sex. “I can’t help you. Personally, I think if I was able to actually continue, maybe we wouldn’t be in this situation. Now can I kiss you?”
Jihoon doesn’t give an audible answer, but he sighs and closes his eyes. Mingyu smiles and follows suit, but it meets skin again. Jihoon turned his head at the last second.
“Fuck you.”
“You’re not doing it fast enough.”
“Is that a challenge?” Mingyu stares Jihoon straight in the eyes.
Jihoon looks back at him with a similar intensity. “You tell me.”
{ kiss #4: THIS WAS JUST FUCKING AWKWARD }
“You should get these for Jihoon.”
“Should I?” Mingyu turns his head towards where Jeonghan, one of his friends, is pointing at a display of flowers. They’re purple (Mingyu can’t be bothered with the name) and pretty and perfect for Jihoon. He can already see them getting a home on their coffee table, right next to the bowl of (fake) fruit that’s there for decoration.
Jeonghan waits for him as he makes the purchase. Mingyu walks out of the flower shop with the bouquet in his hands, smiling. “You’re right. These are nice.”
“He’ll love them.”
They continue walking through the mall that they’re at, on the way to the food court. They promised a few hours ago to meet Seungcheol and Jihoon there, as the two had found a music store that they were interested in and split off too. Mingyu and Jeonghan had just been wandering around, diving into stores that they thought seemed interesting.
They arrive at the food court, and it isn’t long before Seungcheol has turned around from where he’s sitting and is now waving them over.
Jeonghan takes a seat at the table immediately, but Mingyu stays standing. Jihoon stands up as well, his attention on the flowers in his boyfriend’s arms. “There are?”
“I don’t know, but they’re for you.” Mingyu places them into the older’s arms. “I bought them on instinct.”
“Thank you, Gyu.”
This is it. Their picture-perfect kiss moment. They share a look in a fragment of a second, one which confirms it. We’re going to kiss right now.
It all feels magical. Jihoon stands on his toes and Mingyu leans down. The former tilts his head up and the younger tilts his head down. Their eyes close, and this is it.
They’re stopped when their foreheads bump together. Jihoon blinks. Mingyu blinks. They stand in silence before the older chuckles.
“Well, um, this is awkward.”
“Are all of your kisses this bad?” Seungcheol’s voice cuts through their little moment.
The couple turn towards him, chuckling. Jihoon’s the one who answers for him. “Well… that time… um.”
Mingyu can feel his cheeks heating up. “Let’s just move on. We came here for food, didn’t we?”
“You’re right.” Jeonghan turns to his boyfriend. “You and Jihoon went to that music store, right? How was it?”
Seungcheol lights up with excitement. He glances at Jihoon, who’s also basically glowing. “Don’t even get me started!”
“Then we can get started after we grab food.” Mingyu tries to ignore how Jihoon’s eyes seem to be sparkling. He loves that the latter gets so happy whenever he talks about things that he loves. It makes Mingyu love them too.
Still, that kiss… nope, not talking about this.
{ kiss #5: goodbyes deserve DECENT kisses. }
“You don’t have to go. Please?”
“Yes, I do.” Jihoon stops wheeling his bag across the floor long enough that Mingyu was finally able to capture his back in a hug. “Seungcheol and I have wanted to go to this music convention for years. I’ll only be gone, like, two days.”
Mingyu hums dejectedly, letting go of Jihoon and grabbing his luggage instead. “What if I just get into your suitcase?”
“There’ll be no room because of your huge ass thighs.”
“Okay, but–” Mingyu cuts himself off, sighs, and opens the trunk of his car. “Just get into the car.”
He puts the suitcase in the trunk and closes it, walking around the vehicle before getting into the car. He grips the steering wheel, just sitting in silence before Jihoon speaks up.
“Are you just going to sit there?”
“I’m going to miss you!” Mingyu doesn’t expect his voice to come out as a whine, but it does. Whatever, he can’t care less.
Jihoon chuckles, grabbing Mingyu’s hand. “Three days. I’ll be in Gwangju for three days.”
“Too long.”
“I’ll be two and a half hours away.”
“Too far.” Mingyu starts the car, already pulling out of the parking lot and driving down the road. “We’re headed to the main bus stop, right?”
“Yep.”
The radio fills the silence that follows, and Mingyu taps along against the steering wheel. He’s very focused on the road and traffic lights for once, as he knows that looking and Jihoon isn’t going to help him right now.
The older had been right. He and Seungcheol have always wanted to go to this music convention (that Mingyu didn’t know the name of) in Gwangju, and they were able to get tickets this year. Obviously, because Jihoon deserves happiness, Mingyu will just figure out how to survive without him. It’s his fault that he has no interests. Well, he’s interested in his boyfriend, but that’s not what he means.
The main bus station is where the mall is, so the drive isn’t far or short. It’s enough time to get lost in the meaning of the universe, but not enough to actually reflect on it. In short, 20 minutes.
Mingyu parks the car in one of the mall’s parking lots. He and Jihoon leave the car there and start walking across the street to where the bus stop is.
“Is Seungcheol there yet?”
“Ten minutes, he says.”
“Alright.”
Mingyu’s sure he hasn’t felt this awkward around Jihoon since they first got together. Or when they had sex a few days ago. Or maybe when they kissed at the mall– no, no, that never happened.
“Don’t you have work to get done?”
Mingo looks up, eyes now on Jihoon. “Um, yes…?”
“You should go home and do it then.” Jihoon smiles. “I’ll be alright waiting here.”
“Oh. Okay.” The younger really wants to kiss him now.
The older’s smile only seems to grow. He chuckles for a moment, takes a step towards Mingyu, stands on his toes, and presses a kiss to the corner of his mouth. That’s the closest they’ll get. “Bye, Mingyu.”
“Bye, Jihoon.”
When Mingyu gets back to his car, he hits his head against the steering wheel and immediately regrets it. Great. Now he’s awkward and stupid.
{ kiss #6: perfect. }
“Jihoon’s coming backkk~”
“You’re so happy.”
“Of course.” Mingyu stares at Jeonghan’s name on his car’s screen. He’s driving on his way to pick up Jihoon from the bus station. Seriously, he’s on the verge of speeding. He’s so excited.
“No, really. I haven’t even left yet.”
“Yeah, because Seungcheol’s taking the bus all the way back to your place.”
“Touché.”
“Okay, I’m almost at the stop now. This is where the call ends, I guess.”
“Talk to you later, Gyu.”
Mingyu parks in the mall parking lot just like he had three days ago, and he nearly runs across the street. Damn, Jihoon’s bus isn’t coming for another twenty minutes.
He spends the entire twenty minutes twiddling his thumbs, but when the time finally comes, he stands up and stares down the road.
A bus is cruising down, and Mingyu takes a second to collect himself.
The next few moments are picture-perfect. People start getting off the bus, but not many. Jihoon is one of them. and he looks around for Mingyu. Their eyes meet, and the older starts running towards him, lets go of his suitcase just before he reaches the younger, and jumps into his arms.
Mingyu catches him, carefully, but isn’t able to react to the hug(?, he has his legs wrapped around his waist) before Jihoon is kissing him passionately.
Wait. What?
The younger breaks away from the kiss after a moment, pure shock on his face. “We just… that was actually perfect.”
“I know.” Jihoon’s smiling widely, also proud(?) of their achievement. He looks like he’s going to add more, but instead laces his fingers into Mingyu’s hair and presses their lips together again.
Mingyu’s thinking now. All that has to happen is Jihoon has to jump into his arms, and maybe their kisses will be a lot better. It’s noted.
“Okay, put me down.” Jihoon pats Mingyu’s back, and he’s let down instantly. He grabs his suitcase from where it’s almost fallen off the curb. “Now, let’s head home.”
Mingyu wants to ask a question, but Jihoon has already taken his hand and started to walk across the street, so maybe he won’t. After all, he’s got to keep the moment perfect.
