"So today is the 31st of October, that means we'll have..." Ren mumbles. "Wait, today's the 31st?!" Scar exclaims, stopping his fidgeting with his bow.
"Mm yeah? Why?" Ren asks, cocking an eyebrow. "Because that means it's Halloween!" Scar exclaims, he starts bouncing in his seat.
"Oh, I suppose thy is right." Ren smiles at Scar, "Ooooh I wanna dress up, and- and- and go trick or treating!" Ren giggles, "That sounds like fun! Do you have any costumes though?"
Scar hums, standing up from his seat. "Oh! I think there might be some in one of Scarland's stores!" Ren stands up too, "Well let's go there! Come on!" Ren grabs Scar's hand and they rush towards the door.
A small fumble with the Elytras later, Ren and Scar are flying to Scarland. They land with a light thud as they run as soon as they hit the ground.
"Here! This shop should have costumes in the back!" Scar claims as he leads Ren in by hand. "Mmm where did I put the door to the back in this one?" Scar asks himself as he walks around to each corner of the shop looking for the door. "Didn't you say somethin' about a go away green before? Maybe we need to look for green!" Ren offers.
Scar giggles, "That's just for outside, puppy! I wouldn't put go away green in a store." Ren mumbles about not knowing that but his tail wags at Scar's giggles anyways."But that does remind me, we can go around to the back from the main part where the Jelly statue is!" Scar cheers as he rushes out the door, Ren hot on his tail.
Scar pushes through a large wooden door, which looked even bigger to the littles. Scar hums lightly as he looks at each sign he passes labeling the different buildings so he knew which one was which, even in the back. "Here it is! There should be costumes here." Scar happily says as he pushes open a door to reveal quite a few boxes all labeled "costumes". Ren runs over to one and starts rummaging through it as Scar tries to reach a box on a high shelf.
"Oh kitten! Look at this one!" Ren yells as he pulls out a Xisuma costume big Scar had as a joke. "You'd look like Papa X!" Scar exclaims from his perch upon a box. Ren giggles at that, "Yeah! You should dress up as Papa K then we can match!" Scar gasps at that, "Yes!"
Scar immediately starts rummaging in the box he was trying to reach earlier, then pauses. "Puppy, I don't think I have a Papa K costume though." Scar looks at Ren with a pouty face. "Then..." Ren's tail thumps against the box next to him as he thinks, "We get an auth- auth- authenic costume!" Scar squeals at the idea and jumps off the box. "To Papa K's house!" Scar yells as he rushes out, Ren following again after shoving the costume into his inventory. They have another wobbly take off and land on Keralis' roof.
"Shhhh" Scar giggles as he patters across the roof. Ren whines, "Kitten! You know dogs can't walk quietly!" Scar stops at that and hums. "Maybe... uh.. I'm sure it'll be fine Puppy!" Ren takes a few steps at that, which both Scar and Ren hold their breath for. When Keralis doesn't come outside looking for the source of the noise, the littles make way to the side of the house.
Scar drops down onto the side porch first, not taking fall damage. Ren follows suit and lands with a loud thud, taking a little fall damage. Ren's tail flew to between his legs and his ears flattened against his head. "Puppy, it'll be okay, Papa K won't be mad even if he does find us." Scar reassures, patting Ren's head.
Ren giggles quietly, "You're right. Let's go in and get you that costume!" Scar quietly cheers and then pushes the door open. Ren took lead when Scar realised he didn't know where Keralis kept his clothes, and lead them quickly to Keralis' bedroom. Scar immediately rummaged through Keralis' closet as Ren kept watch.
"Puppy, I don't think he has any extra suspenders." Scar says, turning away from the closet. Ren's ears droop at that, "Maybe we don't have to have them?" Scar whines at that, "But Puppy! It's gotta be authentic!" Ren hums, his tail swishing to convey his emotions. "Maybe if we ask Papa K super duper nicely, he'll let you use the ones he's wearing?" Scar smiles at that, "Yeah, that'll work, but we have to be super duper EXTRA nice!" Scar pronunciates 'extra' to prove a point as he shoves what he did collect into his inventory.
Scar pads out Keralis' room swiftly, Ren following. He seems to follow the younger a lot, but he likes following, it's a nice break from leading.
"Papa K?! Papaaa K?" Scar yells as he walks around the upper floor of Keralis' base. Both their ears move to attention as they hear footsteps on the stairs. "Well hello, sweetfaces, what can I do for you?" Scar beams, "Papa K, may I pretty pretty please borrow your suspenders? I don't have any for my Halloween costume!" Keralis chuckles, "Sure, let me go grab you some." Keralis starts walking towards his room as Scar makes eye contact with Ren.
"Kitten, I didn't think he had extras?" Ren whispers, Scar shrugs. "I couldn't find 'em." He mumbles back. Keralis comes back moments later brandishing a pair of suspenders. "I noticed you went through my closet, for future reference, they're in the dresser." Keralis says, smiling as he hands Scar the suspenders. Scar immediately blushes and stammers through an apology for going through Keralis' closet. Keralis laughs, "It's alright sweetface, I don't mind."
"Alright Papa K, we gotta go get ready to trick or treat! See you soon!" Ren calls as he bounds out of the room, Scar being the one to follow this time. Ren stops just a little ways away from Keralis house and turns to Scar. "We did it! Should we change at your tree?" Scar nods and bounds towards his tree.
As Scar arrives, he starts rummaging through his inventory, pulling his costume out. Ren does the same as they walk in. "I'll go to my room and change, you pick what room you want." Scar says, then starts running up the stairs. Ren moves towards the Jellie room to change.
Scar, after a little struggle with the suspenders, pads out his room and calls out to Ren. Scar doesn't hear a response except a small whimper that, with humans ears, he wouldn't have been able to hear. Scar walks downstairs looking for Ren, "Puppy?" He calls out once more. Another whimper, this time, Scar can pinpoint the source. Scar pads to the door and knocks lightly.
Another whimper, but no real response. "Puppy, can I come in?" Scar asks, hand resting on the handle. A small whine then, "Yeah.." Scar pushes the door open.
There sits Ren, the complex armour peices scattered around him, a few of the simpler ones already placed over the under-costume. Ren's ears are held back, and his tail is twitching next to him. "Kitten, it's not working.." He mumbles, fiddling with a piece of armour in his hands. Scar hums then moves to pick up some of the armour.
Scar starts to carefully strap the armour pieces on, he knew how hard it was to put on by himself when he was big. "Kitten, you don't have to.." Ren steals a glance away. Scar giggles then pats Ren's head. "It's fine, Puppy! I struggle with the costume too."nRen's tail thumps against the floor as Scar finishes by placing the open-front helmet on Ren. "There we go!" Scar exclaims, his own tail standing high to show his pride. Ren giggles, "Thank you, Kitten. Now let's get trick or treating!" Ren jumps up, then helps Scar up.
"Where to first?" Scar asks, stepping out of the room. Ren hums, "Uncle G first? He gave out whole candy bars last year!" Scar nods, a wide smile spreading across his face. They rush out, and knock on Grian's starter house door - all the Hermits agreed to stay in spawn village Halloween night. Grian opens the door and cracks a smile at their costumes. "Trick or treat!" They say in unison. "Well look at you two! I love those costumes." Grian giggles as he hands them large Hershey bars.
"Thank you, Uncle G." Scar responds, happily taking his bar and putting it in his inventory, Ren doing the same. "Who's house are you going to next, bubs?" Scar turns to Ren, "Papa X?" He offers. "Yeah! I hope he likes my costume!" Ren giggles. "Ah alright bubs, you guys stay safe, alright? If you need help, use your comms." Grian says sternly, but smiles nevertheless. "We will Uncle G! See you!" Scar waves as he and Ren leave.
Ren and Scar hear a couple pings from their comms, but choose to ignore it. They know it's their uncle G messaging the main chat to let everyone know that Trick or Treating has begun. Scar hops up Xisuma's stairs, Ren following. They knock and the door opens moments after. "Well hello you two-" Xisuma pauses seeing their costumes, then starts laughing.
"Oh my! Those are quite the costumes!" He chuckles, Ren's tail wags and Scar beams at X.
"Papa X, we wanted to match! So I'm Papa K and puppy is you!" Scar exclaims. "Well, yes, I guess that would make you match with how often the fandom likes to put us together, you two are so clever." X said with his almost dad like voice that gained him the position 'Papa X'. "I suppose you kiddos are here for candy?" Xisuma asks, cocking a brow. "Oh! Trick or treat!" Ren giggles, the two had forgotten to say it. "Of course, of course. Let me grab the bucket." X turns around and grabs something off a side table. He turns back around with a bucket and holds it out to them.
"Take what you want, kiddos." Xisuma says as Scar reaches for Twizzlers. Scar steps aside and Ren reaches for Reeses. "Thank you, Papa X!" Ren chirps, his ears flicking. "Where will you two be off to after this?" Xisuma asks as he sets the bucket off to the side. "Kitten you can decide." Ren turns to Scar, "Uhmmmm Pop!" Xisuma nods, "Alright, I'll see you kiddos around, alright? And Grian talked to you about Comms, right?" Ren nods, "Yeah! Uncle G told us. See you, Papa X!"
Scar and Ren bound back down the steps, jumping the last two. "Careful you two!" Xisuma yells from his doorway. Scar and Ren just giggle and pad away quickly. The littles quickly make way to Impulse's house, giggling over seemingly nothing the whole way. They ignore most the pings from their comms, but the hermits honestly expect that.
"You wanna knock, Puppy?" Scar offers, motioning towards the door. Ren nods and moves forward and knocks. A small amount of crashing later, the door opens with a disheveled Impulse holding a bowl of mini pretzels packs. "Trick or treat!" Ren and Scar exclaim in unison. Impulse takes a look at their costume and chuckles. "Are you two dressed as Xisuma and Keralis?" Impulse asks as he hands the littles pretzels. Scar nods, "Yeah Pop! Also, do you have any candy?" Scar looks down at the pretzels as he asks. "Sorry buddy, but you guys need more than just candy!" Scar huffs but Ren wags his tail, "Thank you, Pop!"
"No problem buddy. Where are you two off to next?" Impulse asks as he sets the bowl to the side. "We're gonna go to Unlce T before Auntie Cleo?" Scar says, stealing a glance to Ren, who nods. "Alright you two, stay safe, use your comm if you need to-" Scar cuts off Impulse, "We know, Pop. Papa X and Grian already said something." Impulse curtly nods, "Right, right, knew that." Ren giggles and Scar just smiles, "It's okay Pop, I don't mind."
"Well, you two be off now before it gets too dark, even if Xisuma has set it to peaceful for tonight it's still dangerous." Scar nods, then starts hopping down the steps. Ren follows and waves goodbye to Impulse. "This way Puppy!" Scar announces as he starts walking towards Tango's house. Ren yips and follows, ignoring more pings from his comm.
Scar hops across Tango's bridge and knocks on his door. Ren stays back, scared of the bridge. "Puppy?" Scar asks, turning around. Ren whimpers and shakes his head slightly. Tango opens his door, yelling "Happy Halloween!" as he does. He pauses when he sees Scar facing away from him and Ren on the other end of the bridge, seemingly frightened.
"You alright, Pup?" Tango asks, walking past Scar and across the bridge. Ren shakes his head, "Don't wanna cross the bridge.." Tango seems surprised at that. "Oh Pup, it's okay - here, come here Kitty, I'll give you your candy here." Scar obliges and bounds back over the bridge. Tango hands Ren a 4 pack of Reeses, and Scar a Share Size Skittles bag. "Thank you, Uncle T" Scar says as he places the Skittles in his inventory. "Thanks, Uncle T..," Ren mumbles, "and thank you for not making me cross the bridge." Tango ruffles Ren's hair, "No problem, Pup. You two off to Cleo's now?"
Scar nods, and Ren mumbles out a yes. "Well you two best be off, then. I'll see you two later, yeah?" Scar nods, then pads over to Ren and grabs his hand. "Come on, Puppy! I'm getting tired, so I know you're tired. We'll go to Auntie Cleo then head to my tree and have a sleepover!"
A little clambering up the hill later, Scar and Ren reach Cleo's ruins. "Cleo?" Scar calls out stepping forward, but there was no response. "Cleoooo?!" He calls out once more. Suddenly they hear footsteps from behind them. Ren shrieks and scampers to Scar's side. They turn around to see Cleo and Scar giggles. "Auntie Cleo! You scared me!" Ren whines, Cleo just giggles. "Oh my! Are you two dressed up as Xisuma and Keralis?" She asks, amused. Ren nods, and Scar giggles.
"Well isn't that lovely! Are those actually Keralis' clothes by the way?" Scar nods proudly, "Straight from the source!" Cleo smiles, "Yeah? How'd you pull that off?" Scar hums, "I dunno, if I tell you, will you tell Keralis?" Cleo shakes her head, "Nope! I promise." "Okay, so we-" Ren cuts Scar off, "Wait! They've gotta pinky promise! She didn't pinky promise." Ren says matter of factly. Scar holds out his pinky to Cleo, who takes it with her own hand.
"Okay, pinky promise done! Now, I stole it from him!" Scar exclaims, Cleo gasps. "Stole? Mister, I think the better word is borrowed forever." Cleo winks. "Oh wait, you two came for candy, here, here." Cleo suddenly remembers and starts rummaging in her inventory, pulling out two goody bags full of candies and handing them to the boys. "You guys told Tango you're tired, do you wanna stay here? Or head to your tree?" Scar hums at her question. "We'll go to my tree, thank you Auntie." Cleo nods, "best be off then! You two need all the rest you can get so you can eat all sorts of candy tomorrow.” Scar giggles, "Alright Auntie, see you!" Scar chirps as he grabs half asleep Ren's hand and starts dragging him to his tree. Cleo waves as they leave, knowing full well Scar will stay up and eat candy after getting Ren into bed.
