SKULLOW’S EVE
SCREENPLAY BY KENDAMARANIA
INT. THE OWL HOUSE, EDA’S ROOM - MORNING
The sun rises and a new day begins. The lights light up and Eda groans as she awakes.
Dragging herself out of her nest, she checks her calendar for anything important, and gasps in excitement, swiftly grabbing her clothes and going up to Luz and King’s room.
LUZ AND KING’S ROOM
Eda slides to the doorway.
EDA:
Kids! Get down when you’re done!
KING:
(still sleeping)
Five more minutes Mom...
EDA:
You’re gonna miss the Eve celebration!
King shoots awake.
KING:
(excitedly)
You should’ve said that sooner!
They both rush down stairs, while Luz is still trying to wake up after what happened.
LIVING ROOM
Luz, still in her pajamas, walks up to Eda and King, who are rushing around the house, setting up decorations everywhere.
LUZ:
Did I miss the memo? What’s going on here?
KING:
Skullow’s Eve! The one day we get to scam people without cops on us!
Eda finishes decorating her side and knocks on the wall.
EDA:
(commanding)
Hooty! Get us over to Bonesborough!
HOOTY:
Ma’am!
The Owl House rises from the ground and starts stomping its way to Bonesborough.
EDA:
Basically everyone around the Isles goes around houses, knocks on their doors and asks for food while in costume.
LUZ:
Ohhh so like Halloween? You know, Mami and I used to be the queens of costumes!
Luz shows Eda and King pictures of her and Camila in various high quality costumes on her phone, such as Cosmic Frontier costumes, or them as a bat and a snake.
LUZ:
I can help you guys get dressed up if you want!
EDA:
It's not really... like that Luz, more like-
Thunder booms, interrupting Eda. It shakes the entire house.
KING:
5 days of nonstop boiling rains. That’s why everyone wishes each other goodbye before certain death!
LUZ:
(less than impressed)
Really should’ve seen that coming.
EDA:
Hey, at least you can help us, right Luz?
Luz awes in excitement.
LUZ:
(saluting)
Right on it ma’am!
VARIOUS
Show a compilation of scenes of the three fully decorating the Owl House, including Luz tailoring outfits from Eda’s wardrobe and stores, King and Eda remodeling the house top to bottom into a giant haunted house, and Hooty hissing at any Coven Scouts that look at them funny.
Luz wipes off her sweat and waits for Eda and King to be finished dressing.
EDA:
(O.C, behind curtain)
You sure this is right? Seems a little tight around the torso.
LUZ:
Yep! Everything should be fine!
Eda and King step out, revealing their costumes. Eda is wearing a yellow and black costume similar to Dio from JJBA, and King is wearing a simple blanket with a marker-drawn face on it, similar to Mimikyu.
KING:
I can’t see a thing in this!
LUZ:
Oh my gosh, you all look amazing!
EDA:
Just to be clear, I’m never letting you go through my clothes ever again.
Eda loses her tension.
EDA:
Alright, so are we all ready? Got all the decorations and costumes up?
LUZ:
Yep, and I even made myself a costume!
Luz rushes to her bedroom and gets dressed, throwing out old clothes to the stairway. She then slides down the stairs, dressed like a humanoid squid kid with two ink pistols.
LUZ:
Ta-da! A Squidling from Inktoon!
Beat.
EDA:
I don’t think anyone will get the reference.
CUT TO:
EXT. BONESBOROUGH - NIGHT
THE OWL HOUSE
Luz and King are playing and getting excited for the night, while Eda is talking to Hooty, who’s in a horrific Coven Scout costume.
EDA:
No one enters the house, yeah? If you do see someone, just scare them off and bring their candy into the house.
HOOTY:
Girl, you can always bet on me to scare, I can even do one right now!
Hooty makes a half-assed attempt at scaring Eda, which leads to no success.
EDA:
Yeah, of course Hooty.
She feeds Hooty a piece of candy and heads off with the kids.
EDA:
Alright, who’s ready to knock people’s socks off?
LUZ AND KING:
We do!
EDA:
Then let’s go!
VARIOUS
Luz, Eda, and King go around Bonesborough alongside various Trick or Treaters, knocking on doors and attempting to scare them, with little effect. Sometimes they try to use magic to bring an illusion, other times they use King to try to scare them.
By the end of the various scenes, they manage to get a sizable amount of candy and food. They’re all sitting by the outskirts of Bonesborough, near Blight Manor.
EDA:
So how much did we manage to collect?
King opens the bag to see a disappointing amount of candy in it.
LUZ:
Nothing much, but I don’t think it’ll last us 5 days.
KING:
Maybe the Blights have more! And we didn’t go there, right?
LUZ:
I don’t know King, I don’t really think Amity has forgiven me after what happened at the Covention.
EDA:
You kids can go, I think I’ll stick behind and protect all the food.
King and Luz head up to Blight Manor, while Eda still sits there, looking nauseous and groaning.
EDA:
Ugh... why do I feel so bad after today? Probably just all that candy...
Behind shot of Eda, whose neck is starting to grow feathers.
CUT TO:
EXT. BLIGHT MANOR - NIGHT
King and Luz repeatedly ring the doorbell. A storm is starting to brew in the background.
LUZ:
I don’t think Amity’s here.
KING:
What about the sides? Maybe she snuck off!
LUZ:
Hmm... not a bad idea King!
They both sneak to where Amity’s room is. All she’s doing is sitting there, reading teen magazines and listening to music on the speakers.
LUZ:
OI BLIGHT! SHOW YOUR SKULLOW EVE SPIRIT!
Cut to inside Amity’s room. She’s not even paying attention at all, still reading her magazines. The speakers are blasting “Little Miss Perfect”, drowning out Luz and King’s yelling from her window.
AMITY:
Ed! Em! Could you both stop with that please? For Titan’s sake...
Back to outside, Luz facepalms.
LUZ:
I don’t think she’ll notice us.
King and Luz both head down Blight Manor disappointed, before seeing Eda not being where she’s at.
The two notice Eda’s gone, with the candy being eaten too.
LUZ:
Oh no...
CUT TO:
EXT. BONESBOROUGH SQUARE - NIGHT
Eda, in her owl beast form, is ravaging through the town, scavenging through houses for scraps of food and candy. Luz and King arrive just in time. Owl Beast Eda notices this and lunges forward, but Luz pulls out her camera and blinds her with her flashlight, narrowly escaping with King.
KING:
What the heck was that?! Didn’t she take her elixir?!
Luz pulls out an elixir bottle from her pocket, nervously.
LUZ:
I was just curious what it was, OK?! Plus, I thought her curse wouldn’t come back.
The storm in the background roars, and boiling raindrops start to drop.
LUZ:
We only got one shot at this, just try to get Eda to open her mouth!
They both nod, and King stands in front of Owl Beast Eda, like he’s bullfighting.
KING:
Hey Eda! Over here!
Owl Beast Eda roars and charges into the King. Luz applies several light glyphs onto the potion, readies her arm, and throws the elixir straight into Owl Beast Eda’s mouth.
Beat. Owl Beast Eda grotesquely transforms back into Eda, still in costume. She’s nearly passed out, exhausted. Luz and King pick Eda up and run to The Owl House.
INT. THE OWL HOUSE - LATER
LIVING ROOM
Eda suddenly wakes up on the couch, sipping on her elixir. Luz and King were patiently waiting for her to awake.
EDA:
Eh?! What the heck happened here?
LUZ:
Uh... the sugar passed you out?
Luz and King both shrug, and Eda’s not impressed.
EDA:
Well, I’ve seen enough this night, I’m headed back to sleep.
KING:
(sighing)
Man... sucks that we couldn’t get any food this year.
HOOTY:
Don’t worry about that!
Hooty busts through a window, excited.
LUZ:
Hooty? What are you talking about?
Hooty lets out an owl pellet, showing a massive amount of candy and food.
HOOTY:
Let’s just say... a lot of Coven Scouts had Skullow’s Eve food. Even Lilith had some!
EDA:
Wait... who’s shielding us from the boiling rains?
LUZ:
(interrupting)
I wouldn’t worry about that, at least we got everything.
KING:
Yup, without anything else happening!.
Camera zooms out to The Owl House’s exterior, which is sitting in a large cave, waiting out the boiling rain.
