Work Text:

The room's phone was ringing when Dean rolled his suitcase into the suite's living room. “Well, I guess it was fun while it lasted.” He sighed as Sam answered it.

“Hello?” The younger brother said into the receiver. “This is his brother… Uh huh… Uh huh… Wait, what? Seriously? Oh that’s — wow, that’s awesome! Thank you… Of course! You won’t have another problem from us. You have my word! Thanks again! Bye!”

Dean was staring at Sam somewhere between confused and excited. “What was that about?” He asked, fairly certain from context clues what was said, but wanting to hear it before he let himself get excited.

“We can stay!” Sam said with a big grin. The room broke into chatter with questions thrown at him. “I don’t know. They said it’s been resolved, and we no longer are required to leave early.”

“Really?” Jody said, confused. “That’s so strange.”

“Actually… I might know what changed their minds.” Cas called from the balcony window. They all looked out to see Claire down at the pool, picking up the strewn trash from the Alligator incident.

🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

It was well past midnight when Claire swiped her keycard and gently pushed the door open. She crept across the living room towards hers and Kaia’s room, just wanting to lay down and sleep for a week, or at least until the costume party.

“Whatcha been up to tonight, Blondie?” Dean said from a chair in the corner and Claire nearly jumped out of her skin, having to clamp a hand over her mouth to stop herself from screaming.

“Jesus Christ, Dean!” She hissed once her heart stopped trying to free itself from her chest.

Dean smiled innocently, and flicked on the table light beside him. “So I’m guessing you know they decided to let us stay?”

“Oh?” Claire replied, looking confused. “They are?”

“Nice try kid, we’ve already figured it out.” Claire’s shoulders slumped a bit and she actually seemed a little disappointed. Dean couldn’t help but laugh at how much like himself she was. “Look, Claire… I — I really appreciate whatever you did to convince them to let us stay, and… I’m sorry.”

You’re sorry?” Claire interjected. “Dean, you don’t have to apologize. I — I took things way too far, and it almost messed up your wedding. Deep cleaning until my fingers feel ready to fall off was a small price to pay to fix that.”

Dean smiled at her and patted the couch beside him, and she plopped down, sighing at finally being off her feet. She toed her boots off and wiggled her sore toes. Dean chuckled as she began popping every part of her body. You feel better.” He asked after a particularly loud neck crack. She nodded with a sigh. “Well. Thanks, again, kid.”

“Don’t mention it.” Claire replied. “Please… don’t… ever.” She held up her dirty and sore hands to Dean and balled them into a fist, each finger cracking one final time.

 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

They were all standing huddled together in the enormous crowd of the costume party, dressed as the Addams family.

“So it really wasn’t you?” Kaia (Grandmama) asked. Dean (Uncle Fester) shook his head. “Wow… should — Uh — should we maybe be worried by that?”

“We will definitely look into it when we get back tonight.” Sam (Gomez) ensured her.

Claire and Jack (Wednesday and Pugsley) were off getting everyone a drink when Jody and Donna showed up. “Y’all really tapped into your creativity, huh?” Dean laughed at the women when they reached the group, dressing in their uniforms.

“Halloween night at a party where people are definitely making bad decisions?” Jody laughed. “We’re definitely the scariest costumes here tonight — ah speaking of questionable decisions.” The sheriff smirked as Claire came back carrying a tray of little Halloween colored drinks.

“Hah hah. So funny.” Claire said, rolling her eyes. Cas (Lurch) looked around for Jack, and Claire informed him a couple cute little zombie cheerleaders were keeping him; to which the angel's eyes nearly popped out of his head, while Dean beamed with pride.

🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

“And Sam looked like Barry Gibb… and the race was with dragons not cars…” Claire went on and on explaining the bizarre things that had happened to her over their vacation.

“Altering reality. That’s like advanced magic…” Sam said.

“Or something stronger.” Eileen suggested.

“Oof, the ghost kid would have done me in… and singing ta’ boot? No thank you.” Donna got a shiver just thinking about it.

Claire laughed. “Trust me I almost had a repeat of the haunted maze.”

“Ok, ok.” Alex (fried Debbie… from the movie) “I gotta know. What happened at the maze?”

Claire groaned, but she didn’t stop Kaia from telling the gist of the story. “It scared her so bad she threw up… and peed on herself.”

“What?!” Was everyone’s unified response.

“Yeah, yeah… pathetic I know.” Claire sighed. “And I guess that’s why I was so gung-ho on finding what Dean was scared of… cause I was so embarrassed with myself… and he didn’t even flinch.”

Dean put an arm around Claire and smiled. “Ah it’s ok, kid. One day you’ll be as tough, and able to control your bladder… as I am, too.” He teased with a wink and a quick kiss to Claire’s temple. She scoffed and shoved him away playfully.

“You’ve peed yourself before Dean.” Sam reminded him.

“Hey… I was hit by a car.”

“You were hit by a car?!” Jody gasped.

“Long story.” Sam said, not wanting to bring it back up.

They all laughed and continued on with their night.

🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

“Hey.  I thought you said it was a couple cheerleaders flirting with Jack.” Jody said suddenly.

“It was.” Claire replied.

“You sure?” The sheriff pressed, pointing over to two busty, very revealingly dressed women. Cas nearly fainted.

Claire laughed when she saw them. “That’s definitely not them.” She said, then spotted who they were talking to.

“D'ya d'yeh dih dium d'oh.” Cousin It said bobbing his head back and forth. The women giggled and continued to flirt.

“That’s not Jack.” Claire said.

“Oh?” Jody seemed shocked. “I thought I saw you talking to him before you came back with the drinks.”

“Yeah. It’s the hotel manager.” Claire explained.

As if hearing himself be mentioned, “Cousin it” excused himself from the ladies and shuffled over to the group.

“Are y’all enjoying the party?” He asked.

No one answered, which Claire thought was odd, so she smiled and nodded. “Yeah it’s awesome! And — Uh — thanks again for letting us stay.”

“Oh — psh — think nothing of it. I just hope you learned a valuable lesson from all this.”

Claire laughed. “Yeah don’t touch things that don’t belong to you… they might be hexed and come to life.”

Cousin It sighed and shook his head. “No, Claire. The lesson is—”

“Is this some inside joke between you too or something?” Kaia said, cutting Cousin It off. “Sorry… I’m just curious.”

“Huh?” Claire looked at Kaia confused.

“I mean… I get the family’s supposed to understand Cousin It’s gibberish… but it seems like you’re carrying on an actual conversation like this?”

Cousin It sighed. “Well, this is awkward.” He said to Claire. “I always get carried away and take my disguises a little too seriously.”

“Disguises?” Claire repeated as Cousin It took off his bowler hat.

“Let me just put this somewhere out of the way…” He said, reaching up to sit the hat on a confused Sam’s head. “And find the zipper to this…” The man grunted and twisted until he finally managed to find it, and proceeded to unzip the hairy costume, with it falling to the floor to reveal…

Gabriel!? ” Cas gasped.

“Heya little bro.” The trickster archangel grinned.

“How — but you — we saw Michael…”

“Kill me?” Gabriel finished. “I’ve lost count now how many times my siblings have thought they rid the universe of ol’ Gabey… but hate to break it to ‘em, this guys got a few tricks left in— oh… ” Gabriel gasped as Cas threw his arms around him. “Heh… they — Uh — they’ve made you a big ol’ softie, Castiel.” He teased, even as he melted into the hug.

“I’m so glad you’re here.” Cas said softly, squeezing Gabriel tighter.

Gabriel rubbed his back, smiling at the younger angel. “No way I could miss the wedding of the century!”

“So all this has been you?” Claire asked.

“Aah-yep.” Gabriel smirked, tousling Claire’s hair.

“So… the fever dream?”

“Me.”

“And the ghost girl?”

“Also me.”m

Claire stared at him, dumbfounded. “But… why?”

“Well to teach you a lesson… of course. It’s kinda my thing.” Gabriel said, smiling at Sam and Dean. “Right boys?”

“A lesson?!” Claire shrieked. “What kinda lesson? How to successfully feel like you’re losing your mind?”

“That sometimes you need to just let things go.” Gabriel clarified, receiving the deadliest of stares from everyone. “What? Have y’all met my father? Where do you think I get it from?”

🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

When they finally made their way back to their suite, they were all fairly buzzed with tired and sore bodies.

“Family, I love you all, dearly.” Dean slurred, leaning on on Cas for support. “But I lovingly ask that you all let me sleep until the 5th.” He yawned and laid his head on the angel's shoulder. “It’s been a long month.”

“Indeed it has, Dean-O. Indeed it has.” The archangel plopped down on the couch and kicked his feet up on the coffee table, reclining back into the cushions.

“What are you complaining about?” Claire laughed sarcastically. “All you did was go around torturing me… So straining .” Gabriel shrugged, with an innocent smirk. “Still can’t believe you didn’t tell me, twerp.” Claire said, swatting the back of Jack’s head.

“Aww don’t be too hard on the kid. I told him I’d tell Cas he’s been using his God powers to make himself an unlimited supply of nougat if he didn’t keep it secret.”

Jack’s eyes nearly popped out of his head. “ Gabe!” He cried.

“Jack!” Cas gasped.

“Dean.” Claire laughed pointing to a chair where Dean had sat down during the back and forth and fallen asleep.

“Aww isn’t he adorable.” Gabriel said, making puppy dog eyes at the sleeping hunter.

Cas hoisted him into his arms and carried him to their bed, pressing a kiss to his cheek before rejoining the others.

“I just can’t believe you took it that far.” Sam said with a laugh. “I mean giving her visions of me and Dean and centaurs… bringing the alligator to life…”

“Which was very reckless by the way.” Cas added.

“Hey, no one got hurt.” Gabriel said, defensively.

I can’t believe I turned this whole apartment upside down looking for that damned spider and it was never here.” Claire groaned, crossing her arms tightly across her chest.

“Well at least we can sleep peacefully tonight knowing Gabe got rid of it.”

The archangel scrunched up his face. “Well…”

“Well?!” Claire and Kaia screeched.

Well… I never messed with the spider.”

“What!?”

🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Dean stretched and rolled onto his back. His eyes fluttered, then opened, looking up at the solid white ceiling.

Except for the brown spot right above him.

He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and looked at the spot again.

Just as it fell.

The scream that came from Dean and Cas’ room was so loud and so shrill at first they thought someone else must have been in there.

At least until Dean came flying out, screaming, on the verge of tears, and violently swatting all over his body.
