Work Text:

Maria tapped her foot, impatiently waiting for the avengers to get back. Sure she wanted to know if the mission had gone well. But to say that’s what was on her mind, would be a lie. Or half a one anyway.

Fury stood a few feet behind her, looking more calm than her. Not that she was giving angry bursts. To any normal human, she’d look calm, relaxed even. To a bunch of spies, some of which knew her very well. Not so much.

“Maria, she’ll be fine” Fury told her quietly, not letting others overhear.

“I know she will. Just she keeps doing reckless things, and letting the others put her at the forefront. It’s dangerous. And not very smart” Maria replied, her icey blue eyes piecing into the screen in front of her, as they watched the fight from the base.

“Perhaps, but she’s smart. She knows how to survive” May agreed, joining in the conversation. Maria nodded, her eyes not straying away from the screen.

“There she is” Fury said, pointing at the screen, which showed Natasha running across, and shooting at one of the guys from the other side.

A deep breath rattled through Maria’s lungs, as she watched it intently.

As Natasha shot once more the guard dropped to the ground, releasing one several more blows at Natasha. Maria drew in a large breath.

“Shit”
“Shit”
“Shit”
Those Were among the colourful words used by the people around watching, when seeing her stumble back.

“That’s not good” Maria whispered. “Not good at all”

No one moved a muscle as they watched the redhead get up slowly, grimacing in pain and move forward slowly, spitting on the ground as she went. Tony appeared to make his way quickly towards her.

~~

“Red! Are you alright? I thought Steve checked this entrance out so it would be clear for you?” Tony said, glancing at Natasha before, shooting at upcoming guards.

“Never been better. And as for Steve, I imagine he didn’t have his glasses on” Natasha muttered back, groaning a little, as she moved to position her gun.

“Is it just your stomach?” Tony asked, looking back at her.

“Mainly. One on the shoulder too. I’ve got a few scrapes too though. No biggie” Natasha shrugged.

Tony frowned. No- Biggie?

“Dude, you’ve literally been shot several times, you’re bleeding out and you’re saying it’s no biggie?” Tony asked, shaking his head.

“Well, it could be worse” Natasha shrugged.

“Go to medical. If you don’t, and you bleed to death I think you’re wife might literally kill both me and Steve, and I don’t think Nick will be happy about that, will he” Tony told her firmly.

“In a bit, let me finish this” Natasha replied stubbornly. Tony forced his way through the door.

“Natasha! Go”

“I can’t leave. Not yet anyway.”

Tony sighed, and told Clint to bring over medical.

“Your blood is on the floor” Tony pointed out. Not even bothering at this point.

“That’s not good” Natasha muttered, putting her arms out to hold onto something.

“Don’t you dare pass out on me Romanof” Tony ordered.

“Med is nearly there, Tony” Clint’s voice rang through coms.

And that’s where everything went black..

~~

“She’s passed out. She’s passed out” Maria said in exasperation.

“Clearly Tony was trying to convince her to leave but she wouldn’t” Fury added. Maria put her head in her hands, and feeling a gentle hand on her back.

“She’ll be okay” May said reassuringly.
Maria hummed, and looked around.

“Put me on coms with her” Maria ordered a agent.

“What?”

“Put. Me. On. Personal. Coms. With Agent. Romanov” Maria said slowly, anger burning in her eyes.

“Do what the commander told you” Fury barked.

Maria put in the coms piece, breathing out steadily.

“Nat, can you hear me” Maria said quietly, still looking into the screen.

“Huh?” Natasha murmured.

“Nat, baby, it’s Maria” Maria murmured, listening out for a response.

“Oh. I don’t feel so great” Natasha replied, groaning a little.
This isn’t a good sign.

“You need to stay awake моя любовь” Maria whispered, knowing she couldn’t stay on for long.

“I’ll try” Maria could hear Natasha shifting a little. The breathiness in Natasha’s voice told it all. No more sound from her was made after that. Nothing. Not a word was said more.

“Her vitals are dropping” someone behind her noted.

Maria exhaled frustratedly, slamming down the ear piece on the counter, and storming out of the room.

Maria didn’t like this. Yes, she was used to Nat getting injured, but this time it was different. It felt different. Not that she would die necessarily by any stretch. Maria just hadn’t said what she needed to before Nat left to go on the mission. She walked briskly towards the small, boxy toilet near the room she had just left. Opening the door and locking herself in, Maria leant over the pot sink, that looked at least ten years old. Lumps rose to her throat but in defiance she swallowed them down. She would not throw up now, that would be ridiculous. Looking into the mirror she could see her blue eyes, that matched her paling skin. Imaging how much blood Natasha would be losing made her nauseous. Maria clicked her tongue, and cracked her fingers. The churning fire in her stomach boiled in her blood and gave her a newer sensation of nerves, that she hadn’t experienced before. She wanted to make sure Natasha was okay. She wasn’t. She got shot at several times, and probably bleeding out. That wasn’t the point though.

A loud knock rung out from the other side of the door.

“Maria? Are you in there” May asked, stepping away.
“Yeah, give me a second” Maria splashed her face with water, and dried it quickly. She unlocked her door and stepped out, meeting May’s concerned gaze.

She started to walk back towards the room, May following closely behind.
“She’s gonna be okay, you know that” May reached up, putting a slender hand on Maria’s shoulder.

“I know, but I fear one day she might not be” Maria sighed, heading back towards Fury. May nodded, glancing over at the screen.

“Hill, Barton is on the line, he’s picked up Natasha” Fury told her, passing her the ear piece. Maria nodded, putting it in.

“Hill? Can you hear me?“ Clint’s voice rang through coms.

“Yeah I can hear you” Maria replied, leaning on to the counter.

“I’m pissed off at him.” Clint said, sighing audibly. “He said he checked it. Clearly not enough, there were at least 50 guards there, ready to go. He sent her on her own as well”
Maria frowned.

“I thought the original plan was for two of you to go in that way” Maria asked, looking up.

“It was. He changed it, found another way in, wanted to use that way for himself” Clint replied. Maria rolled her eyes.

“He better be ready for a battering when he gets back” Maria grumbled, glancing at Fury, who raised an eyebrow.

“I think he already got one of Tony as me and Nat were leaving” Clint replied, letting out a small laugh. Maria’s eyes softened at the mention of her.

“How is she?” Maria asked softly.

“She’s drifting in and out of consciousness. She’s lost a lot of blood though. I’m trying to keep her awake as much as possible. I’ve temporarily patched her up but she’ll need to be stitched when she gets back. I’d get her checked all over if I were you as well. But she won’t be leaving you too soon, don’t worry” Clint replied, a smiling smudging across his face as he heard Maria’s change in tone. Boy did she love Nat. “She’s just come back into consciousness. Probably heard your voice, I’ll hand you over”
There was a second or too of shuffling about, not direct noise, until she heard a croaky, familiar voice.

“Mia?”

“Hi Tasha” Maria said quietly, aware of the other people In the room, and not wanting them to over hear. She made eye contact with Fury, who thought for a second, and then gestured for her to go to an adjacent room.

“Say something that will keep me awake. I keeping drifting and it’s not fun” Natasha murmured.
Maria shifted in her position. She could just tell her.

“Of course baby, that’s not good. I’m gonna kill Steve when he gets back” Maria replied, rubbing her neck.

“Mh, don’t do that. I don’t like that’s a good idea” Natasha groaned, as she moved a little.

“I just want you back here, safe with me alright love?” Maria listened out for a response.

“I know” the was a silence for a few minutes before she spoke up again. “Tell me something good”
Maria breathed out shakily.

“There’s something really good, that I’ve been dying to tell you.. I was gonna do a big, romantic thing, tonight, actually, for you”
Maria’s hand twitched and her leg shook. Thoughts raced through her head, she had to tell her now.

“Mh, that sounds nice” Natasha murmured, clearly not focussing.

“I don’t know if you will remember this later. But, here I go. Nat, I’m pregnant” Maria said, her voice shaking with nerves.

“What?” Natasha’s words slurred together, clearly starting to loose grip of her consciousness.

“Nat, I’m pregnant” Maria repeated, biting her lip.

“I can’t tell if this is real, or that I’m just loosing my consciousness” Natasha’s eyes fluttered to a close.

“This is very real sweetheart” Maria’s Ice blue eyes bounced around the room like they were following a buzzing bee trying to find a away out of the suffocating room.

“Not sure I can even process that” Natasha’s groans rang out through coms piecing Maria’s red hot ears.

“I had to tell you, before you go to the emergency surgery” Maria let a shaking breath out of her rattling lungs as she expressed her thoughts.

“Thank you, this is just wonderful” she paused for a second, sucking in another sharp breath at the sharp edge of her pain. “I think I’m gonna pass out again Mia”. Her eyes dropped down shutting out rays of light racing towards her. Coms went dead for a moment or two.

Some rustling made its way through the sound system, and a different voice came through..
“Maria, Nat’s passed out, I’m nearly at the base, tell them to prepare emergency surgery”
Maria hummed in response, rushing out the room.
Eyes looked up at her, with her red eyes, and stern, cold glare.

“Agent Simmons! Prepare emergency surgery! Agents Barton and Romanoff will be arriving soon, Romanov will need immediate care, Nick, let’s go meet them” Jemma hurried out of the room with no questions asked. Under Maria’s cold hearted- or what was known to be- rule no one would even dare to mess up. Everything was always well planned and well thought out under Hill. Fury was quite proud of her. Now this, this was worrying.

Maria walked quickly out of the room, Fury following behind albeit technically being her boss. Any Agent who looked at her funny in the corridor she’d glare harshly at them squashing them in the boxes to be kept away.
“What the fuck Hill?” Fury spat out.
Maria looked over at her father figure with more than red eyes.

“I can’t lose her Nick, not now, not with-“ Maria stopped herself, she could bring herself to think of that now.

“You’re not gonna lose her” Fury corrected her, a frown tugging across his face like a emotionless mask coming off to show the emotion really there.
Maria puffed a deep breath out. She looked at him and another tear slipped down her face.

“Maria, what is it, you can talk to me about what ever is bothering you- you know that” Fury told her sternly. He crossed his arms, and his face burrowed in to the nestle of concern. He just couldn’t figure it out.

“I know Nick. I know” she paused recollecting her thoughts, catching them in small jars to never let out. “I just- I can’t let myself think about her right now, not with the circumstance, I’m not even sure she’ll remember after the effects of the surgery have worn out”
The look of realisation dawned on Fury’s face. Maria bit her lip, her under eyes dark from exhaustion.
“I’m pregnant. ”

“Maria, that’s great news..” Fury said gently, enveloping the woman in a gentle hug.

“Thank you..” She went silent for a minute as if she had picked something up from coms. “Nick, did you hear that?”

Fury pulled away and looked over at her nodding.

“Shield jet 354, permission to land. Agents Barton and Romanov Hill on board” Clint voice came through coms, letting Maria have a sigh of relief.

A small smile then tip toed onto her lips, after hearing Clint call Natasha by her legal name. As they kept there respective names in shield protocols, but legally they were both “Romanov Hill”.

“Permission granted” Fury said, his voice stern.

They watched as the jet landed, and the doors which opened slowly.
It revealed Clint stood by it, holding a almost limp Natasha waiting to rush out of there.

He hobbled out of the jet, furrowing his brow in concern. Maria rushed over to him, seeing Natasha’s pale body leant against him made her feel nauseous all over again.

“Barton get yourself to medical, I don’t want Laura to be angry at me” Maria told him, taking Natasha off him. He nodded, a walked off quickly.
Natasha looked Maria in the eye and smiled.

“Hi” Maria said softly, holding her up.
“Hi.. I’m so happy, this is just amazing” Natasha attempted to lean up to kiss her wife but fell short, leaning her head on Maria’s chest.

“Come on, we’ll talk about it later, you need to go to medical” Maria put her arm around Natasha’s waist, and started helped her walk towards medical.

“Hill! Once you’ve got Natasha to med. Meet me in my office” Fury called her from a few feet away. Maria nodded, holding Natasha close to her, and started to move quicker.

“Nat, How much blood have you lost?” She asked gently, tipping her chin up.

“About 2 or 3 pints maybe I don’t know really. It’s all just a-little dazed” Natasha tripped over her word like clumsy mistakes on a grand piano.

“That’s not good..” Maria sighed, as they neared the medical room.

They entered the room, and Simmons immediately started flying about like a bee trying to organise its honey. She lay Natasha down on the bed, and put her on a small dose of anaesthesia, and got to work on removing the bullets, fixing up the blood transfusion and covering up any cuts shown.

~~~
Maria sauntered back into the room, thanking Jemma as she passed her. She lowered herself slowly into the chair left to the long blue bed that the small redhead lay in. The red head turned her head , her lips turning up as she saw Maria pull it closer.
“Hey you” Natasha croaked. Maria smiled back, threading her hand through Natasha’s.
“Hey” Maria breathed out slowly, feeling the tight feeling release, far away.
“It wasn’t looking good back there love” She continued, looking into Natasha’s verdant eyes, that flicked around a little.
“I know.. but I’m okay now, or as much as I can be after being shot… several times” Natasha replied. Her position shifted a small bit, as trying to get closer to Maria like a small clingy child. A loud silence dawned between them, as they both dived into their own different thoughts. After a minute or two, Natasha spoke up again, tugging at her lip with the tip of her tooth thoughtfully. “How long have you known?”
Maria turned her head in surprise. She didn’t expect her to remember to be honest.
“Not long, a few days at most.. I was going to tell you this morning, but you had to go on the uh emergency mission, and then this happened. And I got scared when you got shot, so I just blurted it out.. not romantic, I know” Maria explained, shaking her leg up and down repeatedly.
Natasha squeezed her hand reassuringly.
“It didn’t need to be romantic babe, I just wanted to know, it’s not as if I’m not gonna be supportive of it, we decided we wanted to try”
“I know, I just kept imagining your face when I would tell you, and I ended up saying it on coms” Maria said softly. Natasha chuckled, and brought up Maria’s hand to her lips.
“It’s a big thing, a baby. But, everyday I will thank you for giving me the opportunity to experience something I never thought I could” Natasha said quietly. She kissed Maria’s hand twice more, before putting it back down. She then reached out to touch Maria’s cheek affectionately, who sighed contently.
“I cried”
Natasha froze.
“What?”
“When the test came up positive. I cried” Maria repeated, picking at her finger nail. Avoiding eye contact.
“Mia, do you not want it, or?” Natasha frowned not understanding what Maria meant.
“We had so many negatives, I expected it to be negative again. So when it came up positive I was in a state of shock, I hadn’t expected it at all, I was overwhelmingly full of emotions. that’s why you saw me with red eyes. I cried that we had finally got what we wanted, a baby” Maria explained, tearing up just thinking of it.
“Maria.. oh darling, it’s alright” Natasha opened her arms, and shuffled over a little to allow Maria to join her. She did so, carefully to not hurt Natasha.
“Even now I’m not sure I can even comprehend it just yet. I’m overwhelmingly happy but I’m scared too. I was so shocked that it was positive, that it was telling me that a tiny little baby was growing inside me, I just broke”
Natasha wrapped her arms around Maria, or best she could.
“Does anyone else know?” Natasha inquired, looking up at Maria’s ocean eyes.
“Just Fury, I told him today, as the jet was landing” Maria murmured, kissing Natasha’s temple.
“So that was what he called you into his office for?” Natasha guessed, her voice raspy.
“Yeah, he’s banned me from being on missions for the time being” Maria scrunched up her nose in thought.
“Good. I don’t want you in danger”
“I asked him to think about banning you too from them” Maria said bluntly.
Natasha raised an eyebrow.
“Really babe? Are you serious, you know I can’t. The team expects me to be there.”
“Very serious baby, I don’t want to go through this alone, I’m pretty fixed on having this kid with you. I’m don’t want to become what my father was to me. And I will not have you die on me while I’m pregnant with our kid. Ours Natasha, ours.” Maria said, her tone suddenly changing very quickly. Natasha’s eyes widened at Maria’s words, shaking her head firmly.
Maria’s expression was far from worried. Haunted almost.
“Hey, hey, you are not going to become your father. You are nothing like that waste of a man. You are funny, kind, generous, ambitious and thoughtful and loving and so much more. And you are most certainly not going to bring this kid up alone, alright. If it gives you peace of mind, I give up the missions too. But please don’t worry Mia, my love” Natasha said gently. She rested her head on Maria’s shoulder. “I’m gonna be there every step of the way, alright” Maria hummed.
“When should we tell other people” Maria murmured, staring at the ceiling.
“When you’re ready to tell people” Natasha replied quickly.
Maria put her hand on her stomach, and spread it out.
“This doesn’t feel real”
“I know, but it is” Natasha reassured her.
Maria leant in to kiss her, slowly and gently.
An abrupt knock on the door pulled them both away from their bubble of love.
Natasha scowled, as she had to pull away from her wife.
“Come in” Maria called out. Fury walked in briskly, smiling at both of them.
“Natasha, you’re looking better” he note, his heart warmed up like wood on a fire, seeing them both snuggled up like that.
“Feeling better” Natasha grinned. Maria squeezed her hand, smirking as she did.
“Good. And I mean to mention, congratulations on your brilliant news, I expect you are over the moon” Fury sat down on the blue chair, clasping his hands together.
“I am” Natasha agreed, looking at Maria lovingly. Who looked back at her the exact same. They gazes were heated and adoring. Nothing could stand between them. “It’s truly the best news I’ve heard in a long time”
“Now I should imagine, Maria had made you aware of my ban for her going on missions for the foreseeable future. And I’d imagine you agree, in order to safeguard Maria’s health, and the baby’s health. I also imagine you are aware of her want for it to be in effect for you too. Now I think I will able to stop most missions, but some in certain circumstances maybe not be able to ban, but those will be few and rare, I assure you both. This also means, you will most likely have to share the news will the appropriate people, so they have understanding. For example Stark, and the avengers team as most of them won’t understand why anyone would want to take fucking time off” The pair chuckled at Fury’s annoyance at this.
“We will, Nick, in time. Soon, I promise. I just need it to sink in” Natasha replied, looking over at Maria who nodded in agreement.
“I’m serious on the bans though Maria. There’s no if buts and maybes, missions can be dangerous, I don’t want you being in that situation right now” Fury told her sternly.
“Alright, alright. Same goes for Nat though” Maria caved in, with a heavy sigh.
“Can I also get in writing that I legally get to be the more protective one now?” Natasha asked, causing Maria to roll her eyes and Fury to pull a face.
“What.” Fury replied. “I mean not legally, but sure if you want to be protective, be protective. Now you are both dismissed from work for the rest of the week. And please tell Coulsen soon, or he’ll be mad you told me before you told him”
Maria rolled her eyes.
“But he will tell everyone” Maria said a confused mist hanging over her face.
“I will tell everyone what?” Coulsen asked, poking his head through the door.
“What the fuck Phil. Do you just appear from No where” Maria’s eyes widened upon seeing her close friend.
“Yes, and Seriously what will I tell everyone” Phil fully entered the room, shutting the door.
Natasha rubbed her thumb up and down Maria’s right hand.
“You don’t have to tell him babe” she said quietly, so quietly only a mouse could hear.
“I’ll leave you three be” Fury said, getting up, gesturing the chair to Coulsen, who accepted it gratefully. “Maria, Natasha, call me if you need anything, anything alright?” His voice was firm. Fatherly almost. He left the room in a precarious silence like lights going out for the nighttime.
“Seriously Maria, what is is, you’re worrying me now” Coulsen asked carefully. Maria sighed, looking down at her lap and back up at him.
“I am pregnant” Maria told him, with a small smile.
“I’m gonna be an uncle?” Coulsen smiled. Maria and Natasha nodded. “Wow, really, congratulations. This is brilliant. I will not go and tell everybody”
Natasha glared at him.
“I’m serious, Maria, this is yours to tell. When you’re ready” Coulsen said gently. Coulsen’s eyes were wide, nurturing almost. He was and still is very close to Maria, he’d even go as far to call her his best friend. Her happiness meant a lot to him, as it would to any good friend.
“Thank you Phil, that means a lot” Maria looked him in the eye, nodding a little. Her skin was less pale now, now she knew Natasha was okay. “I’ll tell May when I get chance, but I have a slight feeling she already knows”
Coulsen chuckled quietly, shaking his head. His eyes twinkled like that of a star in the night sky.
“May knows all, Maria, you should know that” Coulsen tapped the side of his nose, with a large grin displayed on his face.
“That’s actually true. I remember going to tell her about our relationship, and she already knew” Natasha hummed, fiddling with Maria’s fingers.
“That’s because you’re as quiet as a firework when you’re around me and our friends my love” Maria smirked, and Coulsen nodded in agreement.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, when you’re around me, especially when we were a secret” Maria used air quotes causing Coulsen to laugh once more. “You are just not exactly.. discreet” Natasha scoffed, to which Maria raised an eyebrow.
“Nat, did you not realise this?” Coulsen asked, holding back a laugh.
“No.. ”
“I’ll leave you be” Coulsen laughed, leaving the room without another word.
“Oh, baby… let’s go home, that might be better” Maria murmured, slipping off the bed. “It’s not a bad thing, really. I love it when you are affectionate with me, really I do” Maria helped Natasha off the bed, and looped her arm around her shoulder.
~~
They walked slowly out of the room, and headed to the exit so Maria could drive them home, but we’re stopped by a certain Steve. For gods sake.
“Hey Nat where are you going, we’ve got paper work to do” Steve called, the ever friendly (patronising) smile splattered across his face. The Little shit.
Natasha looked up at Maria, and raised a warning eyebrow.
“Don’t say anything, please Ria, I just want to get out of here, alright”
Maria nodded understandingly, fighting with all her will to not go and punch Steve.
“Home, Fury dismissed the both of us. We’ve got the rest of the week off” Natasha said shortly, and went to continue walking, dragging Maria with her.
“Nat, Fury isn’t your boss, he can’t dismiss you. We’ve got paperwork to do, come on” Steve said, cocking his head to the side.
“Seriously, give me the word and I’ll kick his ass” Maria muttered, glaring at Steve.
“No Maria, not now” she turned back to Steve. “You’re kidding yourself if you think your my boss. Fury is and he always has been, send me the paper work”
“But you look fine, just stay here for a while, then go home” Steve said blankly.
Maria sighed, to which Natasha shot a warning glare.
“Look Steve, you’re being an arse. Natasha got shot at four times and lost three pints of blood, She needs to recover. Leave her and myself alone. I felt quiet sick today, after seeing her being shot at where a place you were meant to be at too but decided to change it up last minute.” Maria said sternly, gripping Natasha’s arm.
“She gets shot at all the time, what’s the big deal”
Maria sighed frustratedly, and Natasha gave her yet another warning glare.
“Mia, it’s fine, let’s just leave”
Maria looked over at Natasha. Her blood was boiling. She had to say her piece of mind to that shit excuse for a man.
“The big deal is that you guys treat her like shit, and then I’m the one that has to clean up the mess, or help Nat through trauma. I’m not complaining becuase I love her and I want to help. But I’d like to not fear for her life every time she goes on another mission with you. Because you disregard her, and use her. And if she dies because of your foolish actions, this child will have to grow up without its mama” Maria shouted, tears sprung up in her eyes but she blinked them away defiantly.
“Maria..”Natasha whispered, squeezing her eyes shut.
“You’re?”
“Pregnant? Yeah” Maris finished for him. She looked at her feet, anger building up inside her at herself and her outbreak.
“I swear to god Rodgers if you tell I soul I will kill you before you can say the word murder” Natasha hissed, pointing a finger at him with an angry glare.
“Come on Nat, let’s go” Maria said quietly, shooting Steve a final glare, before helping Natasha walk out. She respected the man, truly. But boy could he be a little shit when he wanted.
~~
With shaking hands, Maria unlocked the car, and helped Natasha in. She shut the door and rubbed her hands along the bridge of her nose, as if it would magic away her anxieties. She slid into the drivers seat, and put the seat belt on gingerly. Natasha looked at her worriedly. Maria started up the engine, avioding Natasha’s eye contact. Natasha placed her hand on Maria’s thigh comfortingly like a beautiful butterfly landing on a flower, spreading its warmth. Maria shook her leg, and squeezed her eyes shut. Thoughts raced through her head trying to rapidly process what had just happened..
“Do you want to put some music on?” Maria asked quietly, as the car rolled onto the road. She placed her hand on top of Natasha’s, threading it through like a needle.
“Sure” she sighed, Maria would talk when she’s ready. “Taylor Swift?”
“Sounds good” a few tears slipped down her face like rain drops on a window.
Silence dawned between them as speak now started to ring through the car system.
“I’m not angry at you” Maria spoke up, her voice shaking a little.
“I know”
“I’m angry at myself”
“I know that too” Natasha pulled her hand away.
“You told me not to say anything. And I disregarded your needs. I’m sorry for that.” she kept her eyes trained on the road, but occasionally would slip a secret look over at Natasha.
“You had a point though”
Maria took in a deep breath.
“I just can’t stand how they treat you sometimes. I didn’t be to have an outburst like that. That’s my father” Maria whispered.
“How many time can I tell you? You are not your father” Natasha told her gently, sighing exasperatedly. Maria bit her lip, and drummed her fingers on the steering wheel.
“My greatest fear is losing you Natasha, there I said it”
“And mine is losing you. I want you to know that I understand why you shouted at him, he deserved it. But listen to me, I’m not planning of dying any time soon, I promise” Natasha told her firmly, hoping this would come through.
“Good. Cause I’ll kill you if you do” Maria replied, her voice hardened. Natasha chuckled, and placed her hand back on Maria’s thigh.
“I love you, really”
“I love you too” Maria smiled, encasing Natasha’s hand in hers. “I’m gonna murder Steve if he tells anyone”
Natasha nodded, fiery hair falling gracefully in place despite her just being on a mission.
“That makes two of us”
~~
The car pulled up on the long driveway, which led to their home. Maria got out, and shut the door, immediately going to help Natasha out of the car.
“I gotcha, it’s alright love” she whispered as her put Natasha’s arm over her shoulder, and held her hips carefully without nudging any of her wounds.
They walked slowly up to the house, and clambered up the porch steps.
Maria put her hand on a black panel which scanned her hand.
“Welcome home Maria”
Natasha smiled, already feeling the warmth that were seeping through the nonexistent cracks in the door, Maria fished her key out her pocket and unlocked the door, opening it wide.
They walked in, closing and locking the door behind them and finally turned to properly look at each other.
Natasha leant up, and kissed her. A small hand slipped up against Maria’s cheek, as Maria lifted her up slowly, causing Natasha to wrap her legs around Maria’s torso. Maria held her close, careful not to hurt any part of Natasha that was already wounded.
“If you need to talk about what happened back there I’m always here” Natasha murmured, pulling away, before diving back in for another aristocratic kiss. Soft in nature, but full of buckets full of pure passion.
“I know. I just can’t right now my love”
