Chapter Text
“Thanks, Pigsy!!” The kids and the blue guy cheered. Tang had already dived head-first into his bowl and was done, pleading for seconds before the pig could even get around to serve the entire circle. Macaque rolled his eyes from inside a nearby shadow. He never really thought much about the extra baggage of the team before now, Tang was really the only one whose name he remembered, but he didn’t realize how greedy the wannabe monk was. Nevertheless, none of these extras actually mattered. That is as long as they didn’t get in the way of his goal.
Their little gang had apparently stopped to have dinner after exiting the desert. Macaque had only recently caught up to them and was lying in wait. He did not have a clear understanding of what they’d been up to since he was torpedoed off their airship. He did overhear the dragon girl saying that it was “pretty fucked that you tried to bargain away the monkey king, MK”, and Macaque was just going to not ask questions about that.
That did raise a question though, where was that monkey bastard? His shadowy eyes narrowed in on the kid, MK. He was still chowing down on the rest of his food. Why wasn’t Wukong eating with the rest of them? Macaque’s whole mission was to grab the kid and Wukong and deliver them back to the Lady Bone Demon, and he couldn’t just return empty-handed.
On second thought, who’s to say that she wouldn’t just kill Macaque anyways? Even if he did complete his mission? But he can’t just become a deserter, she made that very clear to him.
Although, if Macaque was to return with just one of them, then she’d have to keep him alive for at least a prolonged time. Hell, he could maybe even have the time to convince her that he’s worth not killing after returning the second one.
Alright, well, that seals the deal, he’ll snatch one of them. However, there are still too many variables to this plan. Namely, the kid’s friends. The dragon girl is clearly stronger than Macaque had originally anticipated. And where is that goddamn Monkey King? The fact that Macaque still didn’t know, still could not see him, caused him too much anxiety. It wouldn’t work if he kidnapped one of them, and then the other came chasing after them.
As Macaque fretted over his plan, the group had finished eating. The Pig and the big blue guy were grabbing everyone’s dishes, likely going off to clean them. It was when the blue one stepped out of the way, that Macaque saw him, Wukong. He was sitting in the back of their truck. Well, actually he was floating in the back of their truck. And he was glowing?
Realization hit him like a truck, he was meditating. It made sense, Wukong had looked pretty roughed up on the airship. Macaque had seen Wukong do this before back on the mountain, but that was only when he was really damaged.
Fortunately, this answered some problems for Macaque. The Monkey King was totally helpless right now. If Macaque was going to have any chance of getting the jump on Wukong and keeping him captive long enough to return him to Lady Bone Demon, it was going to be now. So that left one last issue, finding out how to get MK out of the way.
“Who wants to come with me to train?” Mk yelled out to the group. The blue one and dragon girl happily joined the youth and they all walked out of the clearing. Macaque could almost laugh. He would too if it wouldn’t have given him away. Mk and the two currently conscious powerhouses of the group were leaving. They were leaving Wukong alone with the two weakest members. Maybe the Lady Bone Demon was onto something, destiny really was on her side.
