Never Trust a Portkey (They Aren't Always As They Seem)

Summary:

Victoire, Teddy, James, Albus and Lily get thrown back in time to the summer before Harry's fifth year. What's the worst that could happen? I know this is a terrible summary but please read this. I promise it's good :)

Notes:

PLEASE NOTE
I've changed the age for appertation because I just need it to be. In this AU, you can take your test as soon as you've finished your O.W.Ls.
Teddy is 16
Victoire is 15
James is 10
Albus is 7
Lily is 5

Currently posting this at nearly 3am because I can't sleep after watching The Watcher. This has absolutely nothing to do with that, don't worry. Enjoy.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Don't Trust Teddy with Portkeys

Chapter Text

"Tori, heads!" Teddy's warning just about made the difference between his girlfriend staying alive, and her not. She yelled her thanks over her shoulder as the two continued fighting Deatheater. Although these Deatheaters followed a different 'Dark Lord', i.e Gilbert Grindelwald, the son of Gellert Grindelwald- they still were referred to as the same name. They were still trying to kill them, regardless of what Teddy and Victoire called them. On top of that, they had to ensure that James, Lily and Al stayed safe.

Teddy and Victoire had been fighting for at least two hours. They had been babysitting the three Potter's when they got jumped. At first, they were doing Harry proud as they used nearly every defensive spell he had ever taught them, but as their fight dragged on, the young adults began to run out of energy, their moves becoming sloppy. They had both gotten hit by quite a few spells. They needed to finish up the fight soon.

Victoire hadn't passed her apperation test yet, and it was too dangerous for Teddy to side along with all five of them. They had sent a message to Harry, but until he arrived with the help they were stuck there.

Or so they thought until Teddy had an idea.
"I can make a Portkey," he whispered to Victoire over his shoulder.
They were back to back with the kids between them. Not a very practical fighting position, but it was the safest option for the kids.
"Do you know how?" Victoire asked sceptically. Portkeys were advanced pieces of magic.

Teddy nodded.
"We just finished learning about them. I got ninety nine per cent in my practical exam on them. Harry said I got the best score in the class, so I'm pretty sure I can pull it off," Victoire was still sceptical. "It's the best chance we've got," Teddy argued. Victoire sighed, and nodded, grabbing James's shoulder and telling him to hold hands with Al and Lily.

Teddy reached into Lily's backpack and took a piece of paper from one of her notebooks.
"Portus," he whispered, a satisfied smile appearing on his face when the piece of paper started glowing with a light blue tint just like it was supposed to.

"Everyone grab on," Teddy instructed, shooting a stunning curse over his shoulder and a shield spell when a Deatheater attacked them from behind. Victoire made sure all the kids were holding on tight before Teddy activated the Portkey.

Victoire frowned as the paper turned red when Teddy called out the name of their house, Grimmauld Place, but she didn't have time to worry about it because the last thing she heard before they were whisked away was a Deatheater shouting "Sectumsempra ," and then Lily screaming.

When they slammed to the ground, Lily was still screaming.

"It hurts! Teddy, make it stop, please!" She cried, clutching her arm.
Teddy sank to his knees and pulled her arm away to see the damage. Victoire almost threw up when he saw that half her arm was missing. Her whole left arm from below her elbow was gone. Teddy took off his hoodie, and pressed it against her arm, trying to stop the bleeding.

Victoire ran to the door. "Harry? Ginny? Anyone? Kreacher!" she screamed. The old house elf appeared in front of Victoire with a loud pop.
"How does the strange blonde girl know Kreacher's name?" Kreacher snarled up at her. He did a quick sweep of the room with his eyes and they widened when he saw Lily.
"Now is not the time, Kreacher. Just go get help!" Victoire yelled, going to try and help Teddy even though she was useless with healing spells. It had been one of the few things she hadn't inherited from her mother. Kreacher didn't say anything, but disappeared from the room with a pop.

Victoire looked up at the boys when she realised that all she was doing was getting in Teddy's way. Albus was hiding his face in James' side, while said ten year old was staring at his sister's arm in horror. She walked over and pulled both boys in for a hug.
"Lily's going to be okay," she promised, "Teddy's taking care of her,"

James started playing with the cuff of Victoire's sleeve. "But that's my job," he whispered. "I'm her big brother. I'm supposed to protect her," Tears were threatening to fall from James' eyes, and it was absolutely breaking Victoire's heart.

"Hey, hey, hey," She said softly, pulling James closer to her, "You're a great big brother. The best. But you can't help Lily right now. At the moment, Teddy's the only one who can. But you have been helping. When you were comforting Al and making his feel safe, that was you being a big brother. That was you being there for your sibling. You're being a brilliant big brother," James seemed better, he was smiling slightly, sniffling.
Before anyone could say anything else though, the door banged open to reveal a much younger looking version of their Grandma Weasley, Victoire's dad, and their Grandpa Weasley, along with Kreacher, Sirius Black, and Teddy's parents.

"See, Kreacher told Master he wasn't lying. But Master never listens to Kreacher, does he. Stupid blood traitor," Kreacher grumbled, almost to himself.

Victoire stood frozen, staring at the crowd that had just entered the room in shock, but no one else paid that any mind. Her grandmother and Tonks ran to help Teddy with Lily, the sixteen year old seemingly not realising who was helping him as he just quickly informed the two women of Lily's condition.

Remus, her grandfather, her dad, and Sirius pointed their wands at Victoire. She immediately stood in front of James and Albus. There was no way she could let them get hurt.
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?" Remus asked her, staring her right in the eyes. Victoire opened her mouth to answer her, but her seven year old cousin got there before her.

"The more important question, is, who are you?" Albus didn't even come up to Remus' hip hardly, but the seven year old still stared up at the older man with as much of a glare a seven year old could have. "We've just spent the past, well, it's felt like forever, being chased by bad guys. How do we know that you aren't on their side?" Albus asked, cocking one eyebrow.

"We aren't Deatheaters, son" Arthur assured softly, only for Albus to roll his eyes at him.
"I'm not talking to you Grandpa," Albus clearly didn't realise Arthur's shocked expression and Victoire's face palm. what should she have expected though, Albus was seven. "I'm talking to these two," he pointed one of his dainty fingers at Remus and Sirius.

"We promise we aren't Deatheaters," Sirius' voice was quiet. Was he really feeling threatened by a child?
"Then why are you pointing your wands at children?" Albus had definitely inherited the Evans' sass. All the men lowered their wands. They seemed to have accepted that these children weren't Deatheaters. Either that, or they were scared of crossing Albus, both of which seemed possible.

"How about we start with how you got here?" Bill offered, looking at Victoire. The teenager's eyes darted over to Lily who was still crying and whimpering in pain, and Teddy who was working so hard to heal his godsister that he was sweating, to James who was holding onto her arm and fidgeting with her sleeve again, to Albus who was still glaring at Remus and Sirius, and then back to Bill who was giving her the look he gave her whenever they were talking about something serious. It was a look of patience and understanding wrapped into one and it always made Victoire feel safe.

"It's kind of a long story, but," Victoire started.
