Summary
Byakuya remembered verses in between that did not exist: hands fisted in hair, a clank of falling armor, an exposed line of neck. In the poem that persisted behind his eyes, the young lord did not beg for mercy, but instead took as much of his enemy’s sword as he could, offering himself as a sheath, as spoil.
