Work Text:
To say that Lu Guang held his liquor badly would have been an understatement.
In his defense, however, Cheng Xiaoshi could say that he had no idea until he had offered him a celebratory glass at the end of their latest work. Then, okay, a glass had become a couple of bottles, but Cheng Xiaoshi had basically drunk at least one of those bottles by himself, or nearly; yet he wasn't the one lying on the arm of the sofa, his face flushed and his shoulders shaking with giggles.
From the small bluetooth speaker on the coffee table, Cheng Xiaoshi's phone was playing an old English rock song at a low volume.
"And at that point, BAM ! That big guy comes at me and I go down like deadweight," Cheng Xiaoshi exclaimed. Even though he wasn't as gone as Lu Guang, he was definitely tipsy. "I hit my head on the parquet, for a few seconds I saw everything misted up! The referee gave me two free throws."
Lu Guang rubbed his hand across his face, leaning his head back on the back of the sofa. He probably wasn't even listening. "Cheng Xiaoshi," he mumbled, barely understandable amidst the jumbled giggles and the cottony mouth. "The next song, dance with me."
Cheng Xiaoshi stopped short. "What?"
"Dance with me," he repeated, clumsily rising from the sofa. "The next song, whatever it is"
"If you wanted me to stop talking you could have said-"
"No!". Lu Guang put his hands on Cheng Xiaoshi’s shoulders, and for a second Cheng Xiaoshi feared that he might lose his balance. "The song. The next. Let's dance," he mumbled.
His eyes were glistening and his breathing was heavy, but his gaze was determined. There was something adorable in the fact that he was already like this after so little wine.
Cheng Xiaoshi smirked, covering his mouth with one hand. "Okay, let's dance then."
After a few seconds the song ended. The two stood there, waiting for the next track. Cheng Xiaoshi found himself impatient, and extremely aware of the weight of Lu Guang's hands on his shoulders and the hot, sticky breath on his face. Which song would play? Most of the music on his phone was rock or very fast pop. Lu Guang was probably going to trip trying to follow the rhythm. At least it was going to be fun.
But the song didn't start.
"The playlist must be over," Cheng Xiaoshi grumbled.
"I’ll get it". Lu Guang walked to the coffee table and fumbled with the phone. "Done".
He came back and took his hand. "I'll lead"
"What? No-"
"I know what song it is and you don't," he interrupted. "So I'll lead."
He put his hands on Cheng Xiaoshi’s hips and did his best to stabilize himself, which was complicated especially because for some reason the whole situation seemed to be extremely funny to him and he had started giggling again.
Cheng Xiaoshi raised an eyebrow, amused. He had never seen Lu Guang, usually stoic and not very expressive, laugh so heartily. He smiled. He might as well humor him and see how the situation would evolve.
"As you like," he yielded, placing his hands on Lu Guang’s shoulders.
He had chosen a song Cheng Xiaoshi didn't know. It was quiet, relaxing, a male voice singing in an unknown language accompanied only by a guitar. It actually reminded him of Lu Guang a bit, he noticed.
The two moved limply, not really following the music. Cheng Xiaoshi studied Lu Guang's face, red-flecked cheeks and dark eyes rimmed with deep dark circles. How was it possible that they looked so good on him?
Lu Guang wasn't looking at him, he kept his eyes fixed on the ground as if he was trying to count the steps even though neither of them was moving their feet. He wasn't laughing anymore, but his shoulders were shaking with small spasms, as if he was trying to stifle the giggles.
"Lu Guang? Is there something interesting down there?"
The man looked up at him. He suddenly looked dazed, as if the question had interrupted an important stream of thoughts.
Heck, he was really close. So close that Cheng Xiaoshi could smell the faint, barely perceptible smell of alcohol in his breath and notice the little lines of expression around his slightly chapped lips.
Lu Guang moved towards him and for a second Cheng Xiaoshi felt his stomach sink, a shiver ran down his spine at the thought that he might kiss him.
Instead Lu Guang dropped his head on his shoulder, the hands from his hips went around his waist. Cheng Xiaoshi heaved a sigh of relief, while sensing a hint of disappointment.
"Cheng Xiaoshi?" Lu Guang murmured, the name sounding almost an inarticulate sound in his alcoholic muttering.
"Mh?"
There was a pause. Cheng Xiaoshi felt pain in his back in that uncomfortable position, and Lu Guang's hair tickled his neck.
When the man finally spoke, his voice was so faint and confused that for a moment he thought he had misunderstood. "I like you a lot".
Cheng Xiaoshi was sure his legs would give out. The arms he felt around his waist tightened, as if to keep him from escaping. Not that he was going to run away anyway. "Me too. I think".
His hands still laid on Lu Guang's shoulders, his arms trapped between their bodies. He tried to move them slowly, almost afraid that he could ruin everything, but he wanted to take his face in his hands and look him in the eyes.
He couldn't. As soon as Lu Guang felt him move he lifted his head and pressed his mouth to him. He was clumsy, tasted of wine, and broke away from him too soon.
Cheng Xiaoshi had often thought about what his first kiss would be like, but none of his fantasies had ever included his best friend, let alone drunk. And he certainly never took into consideration that he might be so shocked that he couldn't kiss back. It had probably been like kissing a pillar of salt.
But Lu Guang was looking at him. He didn't seem disappointed in the kiss, nor offended by his stunned reaction. If it weren't for the blush, he might have looked like his usual self. Except he was still holding him close.
Screw it. He was drunk and Cheng Xiaoshi had been drinking too. Without saying anything he leaned towards Lu Guang and kissed him again, sliding his arms around his shoulders in an awkward hug.
They had the next morning to talk seriously about it. Assuming the hangover headache allowed them to.
