Work Text:

5.

It starts out practical. Any good alliance needs effective communication to be successful - even if effective communication had not been a strong point with Mugiwara-ya until this point. Either way, Law would show how one can listen to others by solving a practical problem. So what if Law went a little out of his way? It’s alright because it was to set an example of how to listen properly.

See, Mugiwara-ya has been complaining that his sandals won't stay together. They keep falling apart, and Law suspects they are older than the Sunny. So when Law happens to be on an island with a nice shoe store with types of various sandals, he picks up a pair. If Mugiwara-ya's face lights up like Law just handed him the One Piece instead of some sandals, then only Law needs to know how fast his heart raced.

4.

This is definitely the most practical thing Law has gotten Mugiwara-ya. In fact, he was surprised that the Sunny’s resident doctor did not already make sure that Mugiwara-ya had one. Everyone else seemed to have practical sense, so why did Mugiwara-ya seem to lack it? He didn’t even notice when he was cold until Law pointed out that the temperature was sub-zero. So, Law filled in this gap of the Sunny’s crewmembers and got Mugiwara-ya a nice winter coat. He may have spent too long in the clothing shop finding one that was red, fluffy, and in the usual style Mugiwara-ya tended to wear. Law just wanted to make sure the other man would actually wear it, that’s all. If Law enjoys it when Mugiwara-ya can't stop talking about "the amazing thing Toaro got me," then only Law needs to know about the butterflies that happen when Mugiwara-ya brings it up.

So maybe Law hopes to see Mugiwara-ya smile again. Unfortunately, he smiles all the time, just never at him specifically. Therefore, at the next miraculously liberated kingdom, Law takes a chance. He knows his favorite food. He knows he loves celebrations. The biggest smile will obviously come if giving Mugiwara-ya meat while he is partying, so this is exactly what Law does. He tracks down three different meat vendors and orders super-size portions. It was a pain to drag all of that back to the celebration, so when he lets Mugiwara-ya hug him longer than usual, then only Law needs to know that he thought it was a justified reward.

2.

Law is a very tired man, and Bepo is the perfect nap spot; anyone that’s ever met the mink knows this to be true. The texture of the fur, the feel of a warm body, and the gentle rocking of Bepo’s breathing is the perfect recipe for a short rest. Unfortunately, Mugiwara-ya has noticed Law's napping habits and started joining him. Bepo is only willing to put up with so many people surrounding him at a time - not to mention that his fur gets less soft when overused. So he did what he does best, made a plan to get Mugiwara-ya something else he could nap on. Law set his next plan into motion on an island that only had people that enjoyed soft and comforting things. Every shop seemed to be filled to the brim with blankets, pillows, and clothes that would put the most delicate cloud to shame. Like every gift, Law was thorough with the choices until he settled on a white faux fur blanket with dark spots similar to his hat. Hopefully, Mugiwara-ya would like this pattern more so Bepo could stop stressing about the state of his fur. Law was pleased to note that his plan seemed to have worked. Thus, only Law needs to know that he starts to spend more time napping with Mugiwara-ya and his new gift than with Bepo.

1.

All practicality of the gifts has been thrown out the window along with Law’s sanity. There can be no practical reason to buy a bouquet of sunflowers. The only practical application Law has ever seen is to cheer up a sick patient. Mugiwara-ya is neither sick nor patient. The gift-giving only started because Law wanted to show Mugiwara-ya the correct way to listen. He should have known that getting the other man to listen would be more challenging than any other plan and would end in sunflowers. If the sunflowers somehow result in Mugiwara-ya being so ecstatic that he tackles him into a kiss, then only Law needs to know that it's his first.

+1.

“Mugiwara-ya, what’s this?” Law says while opening the small box Luffy just tossed him.

“Shishishi! It’s a promise ring, duh!”

“Wha-”

“Nami says that two people that are promised to each other should have one!”

“But-”

“Our alliance is the best promise ever! So, obviously, we should have one! It’s a reminder that we will always have an alliance! Silly Toaro!”

“I guess so Mugiwara-ya.” He really should have known better when he started this alliance that once Mugiwara-ya wants something, he gets it. In the end, only Law needs to know that he keeps making up reasons for this alliance to never end.

Notes:

Thanks for reading!
Kudos much appreciated!
Constructive criticism encouraged!

I've once again used a prompt generator. Prompt was: "B buying A something unrequested because it made B think of them."

I've noticed that I have two types of writing: completely crack with humor and completely serious while following a "flow." In this case I follow the flow of "Only Law Needs to Know."

Hope you enjoyed!
