Work Text:
It was just another quiet day in the ASL home when suddenly Luffy got a no network connection error.
“Ne, who forgot to pay for the internet bill this month?” Luffy asked. Both brothers stared at each other and shook their heads.
“Luffy… That’s the bill you are in charge of!” Ace and Sabo say.
“Oops!” Luffy exclaims, putting on his "I’m innocent" face.
“Don’t oops us!”
“Don’t get so upset Ace. I will call the company right now. I am sure we can fix this before the next episode of our show comes out tonight.” Sabo starts to scroll through his phone for the right number as he steps into his room for some quiet.
“Shishishi! Two Piece! Two Piece! Two Piece!” Luffy chants, “Muffy is going to become Card King tonight!!!”
“No way! Akahige will be Card King! “ Ace argues.
“Akahige is too old! He can’t bounce back like Muffy can!”
“Muffy is too new! He’s only been in the card game, for what? A year?”
“I don’t know! But he is super tough! And he’s got a great crew!”
Before the brothers can argue more Sabo comes back into the room, “So bad news…” Ace and Luffy despair at the word bad. “Whoa! It’s not that bad!”
“But Sabo, you don’t say bad unless something is bad!” Luffy explains.
“I suppose that’s true…” Sabo agrees.
“So what is it? They have to send someone over?” Ace asks, “That isn’t bad, I can take Luffy out for meat or something while they are over.”
“No, that would be too easy. Unfortunately, their billing system is down and they can’t ‘accept new customers.’ ” Sabo answers, “Since this is our third time having a late payment we have to re-set up everything…”
“But! Sabo! What are we going to do about the new episode of Two Piece?!” Luffy demands.
“There is nothing we can do but wait until their billing system is back up.”
“And how long will that be…?” Ace asks concerned.
“They said at the earliest, next week.”
“No!”
“Everyone at work will be talking about it!”
“We can still stream it from our phones. I know we only pay for the limited data plan, but we can all watch from one phone just this once.” Sabo says, trying to calm the others. “Let me pull it up real quick.” Ace and Luffy cheer as they huddle around Sabo; but, to their dismay, they are greeted with a no network connection error. “That can not be right… Ace check your phone?”
After trying to get the video to load on all of their phones Luffy asks, “... Who pays the phone bill?”
“You!”
“Oops?” Luffy’s "I’m innocent" face is getting a lot of use tonight.
“Really it is our fault. We should have set up automatic payment a few months ago.” Sabo tries to reason while also slightly panicking about what an absent-minded brother Luffy has become. Does he only think about meat and adventure?
“We can just ‘borrow’ a neighbor's wifi until we can get ours back.” Ace says.
“Ne! Great idea! I’ll go ask Toaro!”
“No!” Sabo interrupts before Luffy has the chance to get to the door. “‘Toaro,’ is a good friend right? I’m sure we don’t even need to ask.” Sabo “asks,” wearing a smile that Luffy means that he is better off just smiling and nodding.
“If you say so Sabo!”
“What’s his network name?”
“I am guessing he is FBI Van.” Sabo muses.
“That’s not really the government?!” Luffy asks seriously, “Isn’t it illegal to impersonate an officer?!”
“No. It is just something people use so other people don’t use their wifi.” Ace explains, “But what could his password be? Password123?”
“Don’t be silly Ace. Law is a surgeon, he does have to have some intelligence.” Sabo laughs, “Knowing his morbid personality it is probably something like cardiac arrest.”
“You sure it won’t be D.E.A.T.H.?” Ace jokes.
“Shishishi! Got it!” Luffy exclaims suddenly, startling the other two.
“What? Really? I haven’t even typed anything yet!”
“What is it Luffy?”
“Mugiwara-ya,” The overprotective brothers don’t even bother to ask if it’s all lower case before silently leaving the apartment and walking up the stairs to Law’s. Naturally, Luffy bounces off the couch and follows.
After a lot of “calm” knocking on the door by a very “calm” Ace, an exhausted looking Law answers the door. “What-”
“Why is-”
“Are you obsessed with my brother?!” Ace yells, not even trying to keep his voice down for the other neighbors.
“-your password Luffy...” Sabo finishes lamely.
Law sputters at the accusation, “Bepo set up my network! I didn’t have anything to do with it. I just haven’t gotten around to changing it…”
“Shishishi! Bepo’s great!” Luffy helpfully supplies.
“He probably just picked the first person he thought of. Since you guys are in the same building…” Law’s explanation sounded reasonable to Ace, but Sabo was still contemplating his words.
“Then why is the name something so Law-like?” Sabo points out, “I doubt you would have let Bepo set it up alone, even if he is your best friend. So, if Law helped set up the name, he obviously did not argue with Bepo when he set the password up. Furthermore, nobody says ya , but you. I doubt Bepo would have remembered to add that to something as simple as a password, but Law could not have helped but add it subconsciously.”
“...” Sabo’s explanation is met with silence from the others.
“Wow-” Luffy proclaims.
“Wait! Now I can-” Law starts.
“LAW! ” Ace yells, before Law even had a chance at calming him down.
“What are your intentions with my brother!" Ace and Sabo, who are currently sharing the same brain cell, yell at the exact same time.
“Shishishi!” Luffy just starts laughing at his brother’s antics.
Law’s response to this madness is to slam the door in their faces. He hopes that will buy him a few more minutes before the brothers try to murder him. He does not have the energy for crazy overprotective brothers today.
“Luffy, step aside, I will break this door down.” Ace states like that isn’t a crazy overprotective brother move.
“Wait a second Ace. Why break the door down and possibly face a charge for destruction of property when I have my lock picking kit from work conveniently still in my pocket?” There is a very sinister smile on Sabo’s face as he starts to pull out the kit. “He can’t claim that we were here if there is no proof.”
“... Why do you need a lock picking kit for work? I thought you were just a charity event organizer…?” Ace mutters under his breath, but does not object to this turn of events, property damage can be expensive after all.
As luck would have it, by the time Sabo picked the lock they could see Law running away from out the window.
“Shishishi! Isn’t this the third floor?”
