Work Text:
Anya Forger has had many names, but there has only been one name worth keeping, and she’s not planning to give it up without a fight.
Anya deduces, using the evidence provided, that the best way to retain the Forger name is to become a matchmaker.
Because the task at hand is of the utmost importance, not only has Anya watched every last romantic comedy she could get access to, but she has also taken it upon herself to study what makes people fall in love.
The future of the Forger family rests in her hands, and she’s not about to take any chances.
Anya decides that the first step is getting Yor and Loid alone together.
Between Loid’s mission, Yor’s work as an assassin, and their family outings, the pair rarely get a moment alone. How are they supposed to fall in love if they never spend any quality time together?
That’s how the three of them end up playing hide-and-seek, with Anya’s hiding place being so genius that Yor and Loid will be able to spend the whole night together, just the two of them, while they search for her.
The plan, however, fails immediately.
“Gahhhh!” Anya cries in defeat.
Yor and Loid share a celebratory smile, but Anya isn’t ready to give up.
“Your turn!” Anya declares, a new idea forming in her mastermind brain.
Yor and Loid glance at each other before meeting Anya with the same question written on their faces.
It’s Yor who clarifies, “Both of us?”
With an enthusiastic nod, Anya says, “You have to hide together! And I’ll seek!”
She conveniently leaves out the fact that she has no intention of finding them.
Anya grins to herself as she pretends to search for her Yor and Loid, the pair completely oblivious to Anya’s master plan. It’s easy to look in all the wrong places when their thoughts give them away. Anya is the hide-and-seek champion , and she’ll be the champion of matchmaking, too.
While absently wandering the house, Anya overhears Yor’s concerns. Is Anya ever going to find us? I thought she’d be a lot better at this game…
Anya nearly foils her plan, having to stop herself from throwing open the closet door and proving she is good at hide-and-seek. She’s the best ! But Anya resists. For the sake of love, she remains strong. For the sake of her family . She’ll eventually get her hide-and-seek redemption.
Yor and Loid make it another ten minutes before their thoughts reveal that they intend to give up. Anya rushes from her spot in the kitchen, nearly falling in the entryway of Loid’s bedroom. She gasps as if hit with a realization. “I haven’t checked the closet!”
Tucked away behind a wardrobe full of clothes are Yor and Loid with their shoulders pressed together. Anya nearly shrieks from excitement, her eyes sparkling with the success of her plan.
“I found you!” Anya shouts, her smile brighter than the sun.
The entire room beams. Anya’s joy is contagious.
“You found us,” Yor confirms with the fondness of a mother.
In the days following their game of hide-and-seek, Anya uses every opportunity that comes her way to highlight what a great team Yor and Loid make. A week into her compliment extravaganza, she concludes that it’s time to take things a step further with a romantic dinner. Knowing she’ll need help to pull this off, she recruits Franky as her assistant. He hops on board without a moment of hesitation, just as eager to get the pair together. Yor and Loid are the only ones oblivious to their compatibility.
With the reservation made, the outfits picked up, and the day of the dinner upon them, there’s only one thing left for Anya to arrange. “I wish there was a way we could listen in while they’re at the restaurant,” she sighs to Franky, who takes the bait with clueless enthusiasm.
“I can bug their outfits!” Franky proclaims.
Anya gasps, jumping onto the couch in excitement. “Wow! So cool!”
Franky basks in the admiration as he prepares the device, Anya watching with intrigue. Another ten minutes trickle by before the unsuspecting duo arrives at the door, stopping in their tracks to find Franky and Anya waiting for them.
“Has something happened?” Loid asks, automatically assuming the worst. His thoughts are a wave of self-blame and worry. Anya intercepts his concern by jumping off the couch and into the air.
She lands in front of the couple with a thud, announcing, “Date night, date night, date night!”
Yor and Loid share a confused glance.
“You haven’t gone on a date with Yor, have you?” Franky cuts in. “Don’t you think that might look suspicious?”
The blame game begins again in Loid’s mind. I can’t believe I haven’t taken Yor out on a date! How foolish of me. Husbands are supposed to take their wives out. I must amend this mistake immediately.
Loid turns to Yor with determination. “What do you say, Yor? Would you like to go on a date with me?”
A blush colors Yor’s cheeks. “O-Oh, yes. That is a good idea, isn’t it? To keep up appearances.”
Anya and Franky hold a silent celebration while Yor and Loid depart to change in their separate rooms. When the couple returns, Anya finds herself unable to take her eyes off Yor. From the sound of Loid’s thoughts, it appears she’s not the only one.
“Thank you so much for the dress,” Yor says, breaking the room out of its trance. Her cheeks are brighter than the red that flows beautifully down her body.
“You look lovely in it,” Loid confesses, his cheeks dusted with color.
Anya’s plan is going just like the movies she watched! Yor and Loid will realize that they’re in love, and they’ll all have Anya and her matchmaking skills to thank for saving the family.
What Anya doesn’t know is that even without her meddling, the Forger family would stay together, for their bond was an unbreakable one.
