"I have to tell you something."
After Mari finished what she said, Hero immediately left the room with Kel chasing after him. Aubrey couldn't believe it. It was a lie this whole time?
"Mari... why?"
"I... I needed to clear it all up."
"I can't... I can't believe you, I- I looked up to you- why?!"
Mari stared in silence, Aubrey tried to keep her cool. She did the same thing to Basil, so she understood how it feels to be in Mari's shoes. Despite this she left the room, crying.
Mari then walked over to Basil's bed, waiting for him to wake up. When she saw Basil's eyes open, she had told him.
"I..." She took a deep breath. "I did it. I told everyone. I killed Sunny and framed it as a suicide."
When Basil heard this, he started crying.
"You finally did it?"
"Yeah. You... you were right. I should've told them. Getting it off my chest actually felt... right."
"Do you think they'll forgive you?"
"I um. Well I'm not sure. I don't expect them to forgive me. I didn't tell them because I want to be forgiven or whatever. I told them, because they deserve to know."
"That's... somewhat good to hear."
Mari gave Basil a weak smile.
"Hey Mari, just so you know, I don't forgive you. But to be honest, I don't hate you. I'm sure we can still be friends."
Basil gave Mari a hand expecting a handshake, and Mari shook it. For a long time, he was mad at Mari for killing Sunny, but was moreso mad at the fact she framed it, since he taught her how to tie a noose. However, he thought he can finally forgive himself for what he's indirectly caused.
Mari and Basil waited in the hospital for what felt like years
3 weeks after the truth, Mari had been living in her new house with her mom and cat Mewo. While Mari had been homeschooling herself, she got a call from Aubrey.
"Uh, hey. Um. Mari. About everything, I've been thinking about it for a while, but I, uh... I forgive you. It's been really hard, Sunny was always a great person to talk to, and I could always talk to him about all the problems I had. But... still, you never meant anything. I know how much you loved him." Aubrey told Mari over the phone.
"Plus, I did the same thing by pushing Basil off a lake, so I know how it feels to be in your shoes."
Mari then thanked her over the phone and made a promise of reunion.
2 months have passed by. Mari heard knocking on her door, and it was her boyfriend Hero. She was surprised he showed up, and assumed he was here to break up. She could understand, he deserved better.
"Oh, uh hey Mari. Listen, for a long time I blamed myself for Sunny's suicide, he was always like a brother to me. Him saying that I was his role model was probably one of the best things anybody ever told me." Hero finished. Hero and Mari stared at each other in silence.
"But, finding out I didn't cause it was somewhat... relieving I guess?"
"Hero, sit down with me. We can... talk this together. Take a seat." Mari then put her hand on Hero's back and let him sit down
(What the hell am I doing? This is unnatural. Ugh. Goddammit) Mari thought
"Mari, I quit my job of cooking to be a psychiatrist and make sure Sunny's suicide wouldn't happen again. It feels weird knowing he never even wanted to die. But, I'm sure I helped the others, including you. You really loved Sunny more than anyone, I can't imagine the stress you went through. When you went into the lake and saved him from drowning, that was just- just- you really- really loved him. I... I forgive you Mari. Kel once told me that doing bad things doesn't mean you're a bad person, and I don't think you're a bad person." Hero started tearing up. He wasn't sure if he made the right decision.
Mari hugged him, as she started crying too.
"You... you were the... thank you for being there for me, Hero. I don't know where I'd be without you..."
1 month later, Kel was playing "Fear of Flood 2" by Hoepoo games and published by Geerbocks Software and was surprised when Hero bought Mari to the room. Kel paused his game and was surprised. He assumed Hero broke up with her. They stared at each other, until Kel broke the silence.
"Oh um, hi Mari. Are you uh, doing alright?"
"Yeah, I've been taking therapy lately and it's been helping. How have you been?"
"I guess I've been doing alright."
Hero stared at the two. "I uh, guess I'll leave you two alone now." He said as he left the room
"I'm sorry about everything Kel."
"Hey it's, it's been hard for me. I'm not really the best, but I'm alright."
"So um, to, uh get to the point. I forgive you Mari. Sunny would've wanted me to, and you didn't mean it."
Mari was surprised that everyone forgave her. She wasn't complaining though.
"Thank you, thanks Kel. You were trying to be there for everyone, and that's... that's what friends do. You really were the best friend for Sunny."
They both gave a very awkward hug
10 years passed. Hero and Mari have been married and they are taking care of their now 4 year old child.
"Ooh! I felt a kick! haha!" Mari giggled. Their son had been listening to the baby inside his mom.
"Mom, can we name this baby...Moony? I'm Sunny, so she should be called Moony!" Stated Sunny.
Hero walked in the room, and saw his wife laughing. When Mari explained what happened, he started laughing with her.
"Eh? What's so funny?" Sunny shouted, prompting Hero and Mari to laugh harder.
"Seriously, why am I called Sunny anyway?" Sunny questioned.
Hero looked at Mari, and Mari looked back.
"Well son, it all started when I was very young. Your uncle Kel was 6, and your mother and I were 10, we had a friend group with your aunt Aubrey and uncle Basil... we..."
Hero proceeded to tell the story of uncle Sunny.
The end
