Work Text:
When Enid was a kid, she would get overwhelmed by sudden loud noises and would run away crying. Her parents would scold her for it. They would tell her it was all in her head and she shouldn't worry about it.
When she would play with her hands or talk too much when someone mentioned something she liked, they would tell her she was annoying.
When she was diagnosed with autism suddenly everything became clearer, she felt seen. Her parents on the other hand acted like autism was an incurable disease.
Some people accused her of faking it and others would tell her she didn't look autistic.
As she hit puberty it became worse, her hearing was heightened, and her tail and fangs would appear at the most random of times.
Werewolves are affected by emotions and because of that Enid was never able to transform.
Sudden bursts of emotions are how most werewolves transform.
It's not like Enid never had the sudden bursts of emotions, she did, she was too focused on trying to calm down that she never fully transformed.
Her parents told her she was broken, her pack said she would transform when she was ready and her friends said it would take time.
No one ever understood her. They focused on the things she couldn't do. She can't howl, can’t transform and she couldn't even ‘act normal’ whatever that means.
Like now, when everything is too loud and too bright and her heart is rapidly beating in her chest and she wants to cry and run away.
The teacher was bouncing his leg up and down, pencils were tapping on the desk and people were breathing too loud.
She could hear a group of girls gossiping about the latest rumors across the hall in another classroom.
When she looked up the clock ticking uncontrollably, marking how long it would be til the bell rang, yet another vicious noise.
“Enid, what's wrong?” The vampire beside her asked, she was wearing tinted glasses, nevertheless, Enid could still see the concern on her face.
It’s too loud, she thought, I need to get out of here.
Enid stood up and began sprinting toward the exit.
“Miss Sinclair, wait for the bell!” The instructor yelled after her, but she was already out the door.
Maybe Enid could’ve handled it if it was one noise, not fifty at the same time.
Stupid werewolf hearing.
She passed Wednesday in the hallway.
“Sinclair-“ The girl said trying to get her attention.
“Sorry, I gotta go,” Enid muttered to her, before turning the corner.
She was heading to the dorms, they were usually quiet this time of day.
She made her way up the stairs leading to the attic, as soon as she opened the door she ran to her bed.
She threw her blanket on the ground, along with her pillow and stuffed animals in a panic.
Where are they!?
She was looking for her noise-canceling headphone AKA the only reason she survived this far with this many people.
There, thank God.
They were on her nightstand the entire time, she was panicking for nothing. She put them on her head and clicked the button.
They wouldn't turn on.
Shit.
She forgot to charge her noise-canceling headphones last night and now they were dead.
Perfect, just perfect.
Enid sat on the bed, huddling her knees closer to her chest for comfort.
She could hear the school bell ring in the distance.
She felt disoriented from the sudden noise. All of her senses became heightened, her hearing, sense of smell, and eyesight.
She doesn't know what came over, she threw her head back and let out a howl.
“Don't turn, don't turn” she kept muttering to herself.
She cuddled up in her blanket, trying to keep herself from transforming.
Any other day she would've been ecstatic to finally turn into a real werewolf, but now was not the best time.
She heard the door creak open, then footsteps ran towards her.
Covering her ears, she mumbled, “Go away.”
Wednesday was standing over her with what looked like a concern on her face.
“Sinclair, calm down” Wednesday’s voice remained the same as it's always been, without any shown emotions.
No here, not now, not in front of her.
“I don't want to hurt you.” she whimpered.
“You can't, I'm an Addams,” Wednesday said as if it explained everything.
Wednesday laid down beside Enid and wrapped her arms around her.
Enid froze not knowing what to do.
“It'll be okay,” Wednesday said.
Suddenly everything became quiet like a barrier was protecting her from the outside world and it was just them.
She looked at Wednesday and the girl was staring back at her.
“We did you do?” Enid asked confused.
“Sound-proof barrier,” Wednesday said simply.
Enid forgot Wednesday was a psychic, the girl never used her abilities.
“You’re tired go to bed, all will be well in the morning.” Wednesday reassured her.
When Enid woke up it was in the middle of the night and Wednesday’s arms were wrapped around her.
