Work Text:

Wednesday was officially the worst roommate Enid’s ever had. Every time she tried to make conversation with the girl, Wednesday would threaten her or ignore her completely.

She wasn't even trying to make an effort to get to know Enid. It was aggravating, to say the least.

Enid has only known Wednesday for less than twenty-four hours and she's already the most infuriating person met.

The girl never smiles or shows any emotions whatsoever, the only thing Enid’s ever heard come out of her mouth were insults.

She never wore anything bright, in fact, she was allergic to colors. Wednesday even took down the windows she spent so much time painting.

The worst thing about being her roommate was her never-ending typewriting.

Who the hell uses a typewriter in this day and age?! Wednesday fucking Addams that’s who.

Enid can’t believe she was actually looking forward to having her as a roommate.

“Can you stop it?” Enid asked at her not so patiently.

The typing stopped and Enid thought that was the end of it, until the chattering continued even faster than before.

“Cut it out already!” she shouted before grabbing a pillow from her bed and throwing it at her.

“I'll cut it out as soon as you stop listening to that noise,” Wednesday said she was surprisingly calm for someone who just got a pillow thrown at her.

Wednesday stood up from her desk and started walking towards her, Enid sat up from her bed to meet her halfway.

“It's called music,” Enid said through her teeth.

They were inches apart. Wednesday stood on her side of the room not once crossing over to Enid’s side.

“That’s not music.” Wednesday commenced. “That’s clamor at best.”

“I can't believe I ever wanted to be friends with you.” The blonde retorted.

“I could never be friends with someone so incompetent and aggravating,” Wednesday stated.

Wednesday probably said more insults but none of them registered to Enid. She was too focused on all of Wednesday's past actions. All of them had one thing in common, threats.

If Wednesday likes threats, why not give her a taste of her own medicine, right?

“You talk big for a human.”  She began.

Enid extended her claws on Wednesday, trying to intimidate her. Wednesday didn't blink or hesitate despite sharp claws pointed at her.

“Did you I could kill you with my bare hands if I wanted to?” Enid said as calmly as she could. It was an empty threat, but Wednesday didn't need to know that.

Enid saw her eyes flicker to her claws for a split second. It wasn't out of fear, she knows that much.

Wednesday didn't look the least bit scared or intimidated by her or her sharp claws.

The door opened interrupting them.

“Good evening girls!” Ms. Thornhill cheered as she walked through the door.

Enid quickly retracted her claws and hid them behind her back, hoping Ms. Thornhill didn't see them.

When she turned around to close the door Enid took this chance to shoot one last glare at her roommate as if saying ‘play along’.

Enid put on a fake smile and acted like they weren't at each other's throats mere seconds ago.

“I'm Mr. Thornhill. I trust Enid has given you the old Nevermore welcome.” she grinned at them.

“She’s been smothering me with hospitality,” answered Wednesday honestly.

So far, so good.

“I hope to return the favor.” Wednesday paused “... In her sleep.”

Enid frowns and slowly looks over to Wednesday wide-eyed. Her gaze darts to Ms. Thornhill to see her reaction.

Ms. Thornhill’s smile remains unchanged, her stare shifts from Wednesday to Enid and back to Wednesday again.

“That’s good to hear.” Ms. Thornhill laughed “I hope you enjoy your stay.”

“Have a good evening, don't be afraid to ask me any questions you might have.” Ms. Thornhill walked out of the room, closing the door behind her as she left.

Enid lets out a sigh of relief, not knowing what she would've done if Ms. Thornhill had taken Wednesday's remark seriously.

Her roommate turned and began to walk away.

“We’re not done yet!” Enid shouted and grabbed her arm to stop her from walking away further.

“Let. Go. Now,” Wednesday said pausing with every word. Her face showed little to no emotion, Enid knew she was anything but calm.

Her grip tightened on Wednesday’s arm, she could feel her tense under the pressure.

Enid felt something damp on her hand, when she looked down her nails were digging into Wednesday's forearm.

Without knowing it Enid was unconsciously digging her claws into Wednesday‘s forearm.

“Wednesday, oh god Willa I-I’m sorry.“ Enid exclaimed, quickly letting go of the black-haired girl’s arm.

“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to. I’m sorry, sorry I-“

“Don’t call me that,” Wednesday answered quickly, leaving Enid confused.

“What?” Enid said she had no idea what the girl was talking about.

“You called me Willa. Don’t.” Wednesday said in a monotone voice, Enid was starting to think her voice was always like that no matter who she was talking to.

Why the hell is she worried about nicknames at a time like this?! Thought Enid.

“B-but your arm!” She said pointing to the gaping wound.

“It just needs time to heal." Wednesday replied. “It’ll be fine.”

"It's still bleeding!" she exclaimed.

"Let me..." The werewolf moved her hand to met Wednesday's.

Wednesday moved her hand away before Enid had time to reach for the wound.

“Please go to the infirmary.” She suggested.

“It's just a scratch.” The Addams replied.

“I know that but-” she was cut off by Wednesday.

“It won't kill me.” Wednesday stated.

Enid knew she was stubborn but this was a whole different level.

“If you're not going to the infirmary at least let me patch you up.”  Enid tried to reason with the Addams. “It'll get infected if I don't.”

“Fine.” Wednesday held her arm out and Enid grabs her wrist, careful not to touch the wound.

Upon closer inspection, the scratches were deeper in Wednesday's forearm than she thought.

Looking up from her roommate's forearm, Enid found dark brown eyes staring back at her own. She could feel her face heating up.

“I-I’m going to get the first aid kit. I’ll be right back.”

She went to the bathroom and looked into the mirror. Her cheeks were red, not that noticeable but nevertheless red.

Great. Leave it to me to fall for my hellish roommate.

Taking a deep Enid kneeled down to get the first aid kit from under the sink and returned to Wednesday.

Enid gestures for her to move her arm, and she obliges. Enid held her hand, trying to get a good view of the wound.

“I-I know you're probably scared of me now bu-” she started, but was cut off by Wednesday talking over her.

Enid gently cleaned off the blood.

“I’m not scared of you, Enid.”

That was probably the first time she said my name.

"I'm more annoyed that my clothes are torn and have blood all over them than anything," Wednesday remarked.

“Can’t you sew it together? I’ll be as good as new.” The cotton candy blonde suggested.

All she got in return was a cold expression.

“Right stupid idea, I’m sorry.” Enid turned her attention back to Wednesday’s arm.

“Why are sorry? You didn’t do anything wrong.” The girl replied.

“I hurt you and I’m sorry.” She apologized for what seemed like the fiftieth time that night.

“I would have done the same thing if someone irritated me. The only difference is I would've gone for the vital points.”

Enid swallowed, she didn't know how to reply to that so instead, she just nodded her head and continued to nurse her arm back to health.

“All done.” She said as she finished wrapping the last bandage.

Enid gathered all the medical supplies and put them back in the first aid kit. Wednesday walked back to her side of the room.

She grabbed the kit and put it back under the bathroom sink.

When she came back Wednesday was on her typewriter, only this time the sound didn't annoy Enid as much as she thought it would.

“If not friends, then can we at least be…” Enid trailed off trying to find the right word to use.“acquaintances?” she suggested.

Wednesday stopped dead in her tracks, she looked like she was considering it.

What felt like an eternity, (but was really only a couple seconds) she finally answered.

“Acquaintances it is.” The black-haired girl said before she started to type again.

“Yeah, yeah acquaintances.” she smiled at her before Wednesday went back to writing on her typewriter.

Acquaintances, I could work with that.

As the old saying goes start from the bottom and work your way up.
