Neal’s Mystery Kid

Summary:

“Hey Peter, do you know anything about fevers for kids? Like anything I shouldn’t give or anything,” David asks, twirling his index finger around a miniature Funko pop of Harley Quinn keychain.

“No,” Is the man’s reply, slightly regretful. Neal perks up.

“Maybe I can help.”

“Sorry. It’s a child thing. What if I give him something you suggest and he has to go to a doctor?” Neal looks mildly offended and David apologetically lays a hand on the man’s shoulder.

Or four times Peter hears of Neal’s kid, and one time he meets him.

Chapter 1: What do kids eat when they're sick?

Chapter Text

First.

“Bold of you to assume I don’t have a kid myself,” Neal mutters, just loud enough for Peter to hear.

“What’s this mystery child I hear of?”

“Alleged,” Neal smirks, his usual charm returning, but there’s specks of gentle, genuine warmth Peter often didn’t see in the man.

“What’s their name?” David asks, now interested.

“Da-Daniel. Daniel.”

“Well what do you give him when he’s sick?”

“He only got sick once, and that day he swallowed fifteen pills dry, and I think he became immune to colds after that,” Neal states, tapping his chin in thought.

“Ah. Surely you have some type of solution with a sore throat?” David pleads, and Neal considers answering. Peter expects a joke or a deflection, because no way Neal had a kid, but to his surprise, Neal answers so softly he nearly misses it.

“Ginger and lemon served hot is a good combo. Might taste nasty but it’s good.”David’s eyebrows rise but he doesn’t question it, writing it down.

“Ever going to mention a one night stand child not in your file, Caffey?” Neal looks conflicted.

“Not a one night stand,” Is all he offers, despite Peter’s constant questioning

Peter doesn’t quite believe Neal.
