Work Text:

his eyes were fixated on the book spread on the table in front of him, looking at the completed text, chills ran down his spine because he knew, that one mistake could end it all right then and there, that one flaw would throw all his work down the drain, yet he was confident as he recalled the previous times he created a spell at a way younger age compared to the man standing now.

He took a deep breath and looked over the runes one more time, muttered his last needed incantations and began the process.

The room lit up with thousands of starry lights, all around him the runes he inked on paper were in a glowing orb, he slowly drew his wand out with his heart racing like he’s never been here doing this before.

“From the west to the north, down to the south, right to the east and back to the west ” his voice was shaking as he verbalized the incantation, the action unnecessary but a personal comfort to be anchored back to reality by his own perception.

The orbs kept shining brighter and brighter the more he repeated the cycle, his eyes glowed even brighter looking at his surroundings, his chest tightened recalling the past.

The last times he created any spell was on a completely different circumstance, a helpless child all alone in the world, although he was all alone still, he found his ground, he found his purpose and he never let his homelessness, his never ending loneliness take over him but the complete opposite, he dedicated his time and self to the cause, to never be weak again.

A surge of confidence shot through him and he waved his wand one last time and the orbs of runes exploded into millions of even smaller orbs.

He laughed, a sound so foreign even to his own ears but he was so fixated on what’s swimming around him to care, the light shone so bright that his eyes were squinting but he never allowed himself to shut them.

After a few moments the light finally died down and he was taking rapid breaths, his eyes were adjusting back to the darkness of the candle lit lab when he started taking slow steps towards the dying plant on the desk.

He knew it worked but when he quietly muttered the incantation and the black dead orchids slowly was brought back to life even more vibrant and beautiful than before he laughed again, this time in astonishment at both his work and the loveliness of the flower.
