Summary
For as long as Ed can remember, he’s dreamed of other lives.
It started as a child, falling asleep curled on a cot, trying to block out the sound of his father in the next room. Knees drawn up and hands over his ears, he would imagine. He would be open, in the part of the day it was safe to be so, and let ideas and play and adventure surge through him until he fell asleep. He would think of the man he would be, or would think of being a child in a different home.
Sometimes, of being a child still in this home, just him and mum. Made that one come true, but it wasn’t quite how he had imagined, in the end.
Ed would fall asleep already dreaming, and as consciousness receded his mind would pick up the loose strings and run with the narrative. And it’s never stopped.
