Work Text:
Akk had been reading the same line for over six times now, not understanding a single thing of what was written.
He sighed heavily, massaging his eyes, which by now had begun to burn. He took a quick glance at the electronic clock he had placed on the bedside table on which flashed '03:00' in green, making his eyes widen
Since he had come home he had done nothing but study without even noticing the time, these days he had been busy with the suppalo's commencement ceremony and this left him little time at home to study, consequently, he was forced to take time away from his sleep
After deciding that he could not make it to continue studying, he decided to get up from his desk and head for the window, opening it wide to breathe in some clean air.
The full moon was high in the sky and lit up the city like a lamp, the warm night breeze caressing him and making him shiver.
He was about to close the window again when the light from the window in front of him lit up, drawing his attention, revealing a boy who was about the same age as him.
The apartment across the street had just sold, so he was unfamiliar with the figure who was now stretching.
The boy was wearing a black half-sleeved T-shirt with 'caturday' written on it, his hair slightly tousled, and very short shorts. Akk felt his cheeks heat up.
Akk was debating whether to watch the other boy some more or go back to study, he would be a weirdo if he stared at him too much; however, he opted to stay there when the boy walked over to the piano and sat down, twiddling his fingers and then began playing
The melody could be heard all the way to Akk's window; it was a familiar song but he could not remember the title, and anyway, he was not a music expert enough to know all the sheet music by heart. The boy’s fingers were moving smoothly on the white buttons, almost becoming one with them as they also were of the same colour, porcelain-like.
He could see from his window that the boy was playing with his eyes closed, so he closed them too, feeling the emotions the latter put into his play. Akk felt his body relaxing, his mind getting free from all the stress as the piece slowly came to an end.
When Akk opened his eyes again he saw that the boy-next-door was looking at him, he was about to close the window out of embarrassment when he saw that the person was holding a small notebook in front of him with the words 'Hi I’m Aye' written on it
Actually, Akk had to squeeze his eyes and take a few seconds to understand the latter's messy handwriting, but he eventually manager to do it.
With a wave of his hand, he signaled for Aye to wait while he ran to his desk to get a piece of paper from his biology notebook and pen; it would be rude to ignore it, he thought.
'Akk,' he wrote.
'Were you listening to my play?' aye's laughter could be heard all the way to akk's window making him blush even more as he nodded
'Was I good?’ Aye took a new notebook page as he scribbled those words
Akk snapped out of his state of trance after Aye's giggle, nodding in response
'Thanks, I learnt that piece a few days ago.'
Akk then took his notebook and wrote down his concern 'Did you transfer here recently?' He asked as if it wasn't obvious already
But Aye just ripped another page from his notebook and wrote 'Yes, just moved here from my uncle's to my mother's'
Akk didn't want to be nosy, but he wanted to get to know the other boy better so he questioned 'How come?'
'My uncle died' Akk stopped moving, he shouldn't have asked that and as he felt bad about it he quickly wrote an apology on the notebook
'I'm so sorry' he also put his hands in an apologetic sign, earning a shrug from Aye to reassure him
'It's fine, don't worry' he wrote, followed with a soft smile. Oh lord, Akk felt as if his face had turned into a tomato.
'Can you tell me the title of the piece you played?' Akk first wanted to ask Aye to play the piece again, but as he still knew what dignity was he opted to just ask for its title
'river flows in you' followed by a smiley face, lowkey looking like Aye's smile... or maybe it was just Akk's impression, he now felt somehow strange about the boy next-door, as if everything was related to him ‘Thanks.'
after that, the two boys sat one opposite the other without saying anything, Bangkok's traffic noises filling in the silence that wasn't really uncomfortable, they just waited for the other to say something. When Aye took the notebook in his hands once again, Akk was startled by the sudden move
'Can I have your line?' now also Aye's face was of a slight red, he started thinking that maybe it was too weird to ask such of a question to a boy who he just started talking at three am, but at his surprise Akk took his notebook as well while writing something, showing to him there was his line id
Aye then walked to the table to take his phone, as he unlocked it he almost went blind for the brightness, after turning it to the lowest level he saved the other's contact as Akk ♡
at the moment he reached the window once again, he called the other's number making him jump in surprise, in fact, Akk had forgotten to turn down the ringtone, the notes of 'Cheer up' by twice probably woke up the whole building
As he accepted the call he touched his chest to feel if his heart was still there
"Sorry!” Aye quickly apologised, earning a small laugh from the other
“It’s my fault, I forgot to turn down the volume.” Akk said, glancing at his phone’s screen realizing it said a different name from what the other told him
“Is your name Ayan?” Akk questioned, now looking back at Aye who nodded “mh, Ayan Sukkhaphisit, Aye for friends.”
Akk nodded, he honestly thought the meaning behind his name was somehow ethereal, ‘summer solstice’, truly enchanting, wasn’t it?
The two talked back and forth for a few minutes, getting to know each other better. Akk found out that Ayan was transferring to his school and that his parents were divorced, this is why he lived only with his mother and that she was a kind person, also adding that she would love Akk – which made him blush even more –.
The taller had also questioned the reason why Ayan was up at such late hours, but it didn’t exactly get an answer, just a mere explanation, but the two just got to talk, they still had plenty of time to get to open up.
Ayan loved the way Akk smiled; it seemed as if his eyes sparkled, reflecting the moonlight shining down, his plump lips almost disappearing as they curved, showing two small dimples at the corners.
“well, I’m going to sleep now so see you tomorrow at school.” Ayan said, a little bit sad to leave the taller but he felt his eyes closing on their own
Akk nodded, understanding “Sure…” he paused for a few seconds, as if not daring to ask “How about I walk you to school tomorrow?” Ayan nodded happily
“It sounds lovely.” Aye yawned, and so did Akk who was glancing at him, starting to feel sleepy as well.
Yawns are not the only infectious thing out there, besides germs. Giggles can spread from person to person; so can blushing. In fact, if the two boys could see each other better, with a stronger light and not the moon’s they would see how much of a red tint their cheeks were.
“Goodnight, Aye.” Akk softly said
“Goodnight, Akk.” Ayan smiled
Akk lay down on the bed, covering himself with the covers ‘till his head, feet kicking the air as he felt a strange euphoria inside his chest. He thought about the boy he just met, his big brown eyes, his big nose, his red lips, his flat stomach, his tiny waist and the tattoo showing from the corner of his short-pants. Akk hoped the two could become friends, or maybe even more, if possible.
For the first time in a while, Akk fell asleep with a wide smile on his face, without having the anxiety of school in his mind.
Ayan actually took some more time before closing the window, he felt somehow connected to his window buddy,
How can I put it in words… Ayan’s soul was black; he is the moon. rightful, and unseen, oh-so-secretive. He carries the burden of the earth on his shoulders, and he is the only person who can understand the loneliness of the sun.
On the other way, Akk’s soul was orange – just like the colour of the shirt he was wearing - ; he is the sun. bright, and stunning, and ever so lonely. The world looks to him in admiration, but he remains unreachable, inexplicable.
Together, they made a vibrant Eclipse.
So now Ayan saw himself as the diligent moon up high in the sky… because the moon knows it all, she is there for everyone,
anytime.
it doesn't matter whether someone is joyful or is feeling sorrow, she will dry our tears when sad and cheer with us when happy.
her sight is melancholic, yet somehow comforting and reassuring
Aye’s eyes drink up the ethereal vista given by the heavens and he forgot all the surroundings.
these light blue clouds scatter over her so haphazardly yet blended in a perfect way that only the sky would make, Ayan felt awestruck by the beauty of the earth’s natural orbit.
a sense of home and love fill his stomach with all the enchanting memories of the past days, his lips curve in a soft and warm smile. . . no, Ayan wasn’t the moon. Ayan was over the moon.
It was beginning of something new, for both of them.
