“Oh thank god,” the man gushes in an English accent as Pete’s boots hit the ground. “I thought I was literally going to die out here. There’s like, actual wild animals running around.”
Pete smiles. “Glad you haven’t been mauled by a pack of coyotes. Anyway, I’m Pete. Triple A said you’ve had some car trouble.”
“Ugh, please don’t judge me by this car, it would have been my absolute last choice, but you can’t look a gift car in the mouth or whatever. Except now it’s busted and left me fucking stranded so I probably should have done, I guess. Sorry, I’m Lucius, by the way.”
Pete, a mechanic in a small town in New Mexico, gets a call from Triple A to pick up a car broken down by the side of the road.
He picks up a lot more than that.
