Work Text:
Surprisingly, Tony decided to study for the test. Literature wasn't his favourite subject but the topic they were currently talking about was kind of interesting to him. Also, he had a bit more time alone since Ezra was suffering from a cold and stayed at home for the last week.
"Alright, you have 45 minutes for the test, staring now," the teacher said after handing out the sheets. Crowley immediately went down to work.
The exercises seemed rather easy or maybe he just understood them better after some time having spent on studying. It was nice not to struggle on an exam for once. Maybe he would even finish is earlier and go out with Ezra.
The class was quiet so Tony also didn't pay much attention to what was happening in the classroom. He was focused on his sheet until he heard the teacher talking to one of the students.
"I can't believe!" she exclaimed and when Crowley realized there was some drama going on, he turned his face to admire the show. However, when he looked at the student who the teacher was talking to, he gaped. "Of all students, you, Ezra?" Tony couldn't believe his own eyes. The boy was looking down, biting the inside of his mouth as the woman was standing next to him, holding a small sheet of paper in her hand. Tony immediately realized it was a crib sheet. But Aziraphale cheating? It was impossible.
"I'm- uh I'm well- it's not," he tried to explain himself but the teacher didn't really let him. She was furious.
"I'm failing you, Ezra and I'm going to contact your parents," she claimed and Ezra's face went pale. It wasn't the parents part that was bad for him. His parents wasn't going to be mad at him, they weren't that strict. But failing? No, he couldn't get over that.
The whole class was staring at him, some students were whispering to one another. Especially Gabriel and Beez. Tony had to rescue his boyfriend somehow. He could already see his stress increasing to an unbelievable level.
"Ma'am, it's mine," Crowley said suddenly and everybody's eyes turned to him.
The teacher was visibly annoyed. "Anthony, focus on your sheet."
"Oh, please, would he really cheat on literature? It's Ezra, he could get a master degree already in it." The blond's eyes widened when he heard his boyfriend. He really tried to stop him from taking the responsibility for cheating but he froze.
"Anthony, don't lie, it's Ezra's writing," the teacher pointed out, however, Crowley was better than that.
"He prepared it for me. I didn't even studied enough to make it myself," he said nonchalantly and that was everything for the teacher to believe him. She took away Tony's sheet and failed him straight away.
Ezra was devastated and he couldn't believe that his boyfriend gave him a soothing smile as he walked out of the classroom. He shakily tried to finish his exam and when he did it, he trotted out to find Tony. What if he hated him now? Wanted to break up with him?!
"Tony! Tony, love!" He looked around the corridors and eventually found the boy sitting on a windowsill, watching something on his phone. Ezra immediately ran up to him and hugged him tight, mumbling apologies to him.
The ginger jumped a little as he felt the boy wrapping around him. Of course, he hugged Ezra back and chuckled slightly when he heard what his boyfriend was saying to him.
"Why are you laughing?" the blond asked with glassy eyes. "You're not mad? You failed because of me."
"Oh, please, angel, it's not the first time. Besides, I know you were busy yesterday. I can always retake this exam, it's no difference. I know how important it was for you," Crowley said and kissed the boy gently.
They'd been hugging each other for a few minutes until Tony's mum came and they both went inside the headmaster's office. The talk wasn't, in fact, long. Both adults weren't really surprised, a bit disappointed but they both knew that Crowley would retake the exam and pass easily.
"Tony, you're a smart boy, you just have to-" the headmaster started.
"Spend time on studying a bit more, I know, I know," Tony finished and sighed. He just wanted to go back to Ezra.
The headmaster let the two of them go and when Crowley and his mum left, the boy told her the truth. He didn't want to lie to her and knew that she wouldn't mind.
"Take the poor boy out," she chuckled and ruffled Tony's hair. "He's shaking like a leaf." The boy smiled and after secretly kissing his mum on her cheek, came up to the boy and hugged him tight.
The two boys went outside and headed to a café. During their walk they were simply chatting about everything, even when Crowley could clearly see that Ezra tried to come back to the exam topic. As they sat down and ordered, the blond couldn't hold back any longer and said again.
"Tony, I am terribly sorry for what happened," he said with guilt in his eyes.
"Angel." Crowley held his hand. "It's really okay. I understand this topic so it won't be a problem to pass it. However, I do have a question, why didn't you study? I mean, you?"
Ezra hid his face in his hands and exhaled before talking. "I don't know. I came back home yesterday and firstly I helped my mum make the dinner, then my aunt came with my cousin so I played with him, then I started talking to my dad about Neil Gaiman's novels and when I realized it was already 11 pm! And you know that I need my night routine so I only managed to make that crib sheet and I headed to sleep. In fact, I barely slept because I Was so stressed, I hate cheating and I felt so bad when Mrs. Johnson caught me."
The ginger only smiled and gave his boyfriend another kiss. "You're cute when you're rambling like this," he chuckled and made Ezra blush. "I love you, okay?"
"I love you too," Ezra responded and smiled relaxed for the first time that day.
"You're lucky I'm such a good liar." Tony winked and they both continued their meeting in a very happy atmosphere.
