Crowley thought that he would manage to prepare everything till 6 pm. The reality was a bit different. It turned out that making sushi was a bigger challenge than he had thought. But he couldn't give up right now. After all, he had invited Aziraphale for a date night (he really liked to call it that way). Additionally, he decided to prepare sushi for the angel since he knew that he loved them so much.
He was a step from just miracling the sushi on the counter but some part of it really wanted to prepare it himself. That's why, he chose that internet website with videos to help him with that thing. He typed 'homemade sushi tutorial' and clicked on the first video that appeared on the screen of his phone.
The phone was placed against the wall on the counter as the man in the video started speaking.
"Rice... alright," Crowley mumbled to himself and miracled a package of rice in his hand. The problem was that he had no idea how to prepare it. The man in the tutorial said to follow the instruction on the back of the package but that seemed like too much effort so Crowley chose a miracle to get it done in a blink of an eye. He didn't have much time left anyway.
"That's easy," the demon smiled proudly but didn't expect the next step to be so tricky.
The vinegar or whatever it was called required more ingredients at the same time which was already quite tricky. Plus, he had to stir it afterwards.
The video man told him to add the vinegar to the rice and before Crowley heard to do it slowly, he'd already poured the whole liquid on the rice.
"Well, works this way too," he claimed and went to the next step.
"You can put inside your sushi whatever you like," the sushi man said and that, in fact, was the most difficult part.
Crowley had to think about Aziraphale's favourite food so that it would make the sushi even more special than it already was. Right now, he tried to remember all the times they were eating something together which was a bit hard since the only thing that the demon could actually see in his memories was the angel's perfect face and the way he was enjoying his meal.
Eventually, the ginger decided on carrots, cucumbers, pepper and salmon (the sushi man mentioned something about being careful with a raw salmon but, come on, they were two supernatural entities). He cut everything into stripes and was quite proud of himself at that point.
"Seafood? This black piece of something is seafood? Ew," Crowley said as he miracled it and started to clumsily roll the sushi which happen to be the most difficult thing he'd ever done. Even finding the Antichrist seemed to be easier than that.
In the end, after two pieces of seafood being torn apart accidentally, the sushi rolls were prepared and ready to be served. Well, the rice might have been falling out a bit and the rolls were a bit clumsy every here and there but they were done with love!
And just when Crowley announced his finish, he heard the doorbell. He quickly looked at his watch. Exactly 6 pm. That sneaky, lovely, beautiful, perfect bastard was always on time. Crowley quickly cleaned the kitchen with a snap of his fingers and at the same time set the table with a nice candle in the middle and a bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Crowley still didn't know how to pronounce it but he knew it was Aziraphale's favourite).
"Hello, Crowley, it's very nice to see you," the angel said with a smile when the demon opened the door. "Oh, you have something here," he said and picked a grain of rice from the demon's shoulder.
"Ah, thanks, angel." Crowley had always had difficulties with speaking when he was looking at Aziraphale. He'd always been so well-dressed, with such passion and attention to detail. "Come on in."
Both of them walked inside the flat and it was, in fact, Aziraphale's first time he'd been in Crowley's flat. He had had an occasion to come there when he was in the demon's body but he wouldn't dare to invade his friend's privacy.
The flat itself was very Crowley-like. Very elegant, mostly black, but it gave an impression of being both modern and medieval. Especially, when the demon showed him the room with the plants. Aziraphale felt like in a jungle with all the plants tangled above and near them.
Crowley smirked. "They're more shaky when they see me. They must like you, then," he said nonchalantly but inside he was happy that his plants liked Aziraphale. After all, he'd been rambling about the angel so many times to the plants.
Finally, they made it to the dining room with a big window that showed the panorama of Westminster. It'd already got darker so the room was a bit gloomy and the candle was giving off a very nice and romantic atmosphere.
"Oh, my, Crowley, you really prepare for this dinner." Date, Crowley thought but didn't have enough courage to correct Aziraphale out loud. Not yet.
"Well, I wanted you to enjoy it as much as you can," the demon answered and pulled the chair for the angel and offered a glass of champagne right after he sat down.
"Is this Châteauneuf-du-Pape?" the blond asked and the demon nodded cheekily.
"I know it's your favourite." After he poured the champagnes to both of theirs glasses it was time for the sushi.
When Crowley looked at for the second time, he decided it looked awful. The rice was falling out even more than before, and these damn rolls didn't want to stand straight on that plate. But well there was no time to fix it now. Maybe Aziraphale wouldn't be so strict about the state of them.
"Ta uh da?" the demon said as he served the sushi. The angel's eyes widened and Crowley had no idea how to interpret it. "Do you uh like it?" he asked quietly.
"You prepared it yourself?" Aziraphale turned his head to look at the demon.
"Ngk... Yeah?"
The angel grinned. "Oh, my dear, that's so thoughtful, thank you!" He stood up and hugged the demon's slim frame. Immediately, the whole tension escaped Crowley's body. Now the easy part.
"Do you have chopsticks?" And screw the easy part. One thing in the world that Crowley couldn't understand at all was how did people eat with these damn sticks? Why wouldn't they just use their hands? Or a fork at least!
"Yeah, erm, here." Soon two sets of chopsticks appeared in Crowley's hand and one of them was passed to Aziraphale.
The angel immediately started to enjoy his meal which seemed to meet his expectations since Crowley didn't hear any complaints. On the other hand to, the demon was now sitting and blindly staring at the blond because he had no idea what to do with those wooden sticks. He tried his best to mimic Aziraphale and clumsily picked up one roll only for it to be dropped on his lap.
"Ugh!" he exclaimed which draw the angel's attention.
"Are you okay?" he asked, being a bit amused with the situation that his friend got himself into. "Do you need help?"
"Nah, angel, I'm fine," the demon answered and tried his luck again. Unfortunately, his every try failed and every roll ended up like the previous one.
"Let me actually help you," Aziraphale chuckled and picked up the poor roll and raised it too Crowley's mouth precisely. The demon obediently opened his mouth and taste his own meal which turned out not to be that bad. He expected it to be awful but it was quite okay. Or maybe it was just that it was Aziraphale feeding him.
Soon, the blond moved the candle to the side so that he could lean forward and have a better access to Crowley. He picked up another roll and repeated his move but that time the ginger pulled the angel closer and connected his lips in a quick kiss. It was almost automatic for the demon to do it. However, a second after that he sat back down on his chair and impatiently waited for the angel's reaction.
Aziraphale blushed innocently and smiled widely. "So this was your plan, foul fiend."
"Ngk... Kinda? Yeah?" Crowley answered, now more calm since he knew that the angel's reaction was positive. "Did I go too fast?"
"Oh, no, I think you went perfect." Aziraphale sat on his seat again and continued finishing his dinner but this time he was holding Crowley's hand and brushing the skin with his thumb. The demon was smiling all the time and eventually decided to give up the chopsticks and he miracled himself a fork.
As they both finished their meals, they made their way to Crowley's sofa and cuddles up on it. They were listening to the sounds of London at nighttime. It was actually quite soothing and relaxing.
"Thank you for this date, Crowley," Aziraphale murmured in his shoulder where his face was nuzzled.
"Thank you for making it more amazing," the demon replied and grinned to himself. It was the best day of his life. He had finally made the big step and knew that it was a start of something new and serious. "Thank you for being so amazing."
