They were taking a well deserved break after a successful mission. The members of Overwatch decided to celebrate at a bar in Texas before heading back to Gibraltar later that evening.
The group sat at a round saloon table near a corner. Soldier 76 sat at one end of the table nursing a whiskey while going over the field report with Tracer. Next to him sat Cole with his arm swung around Hanzo’s shoulders. “Darling, I ain’t never seen ya shoot so fine as I did today” drawled Cassidy before whispering something seductive into Hanzo’s ear. “Cole…” replied Hanzo almost chocking on his drink. He turned his head to look into his cowboys eyes with a fond smile while blushing deeply. Genji sat across the table from the couple with his mask off. He smiled fondly before taking a sip from his beer. He is grateful that his brother has found happiness and even more, that this happiness comes from a good man that he trust with his life. “Please save me from this discomfort…” mocked Genji with a shit eating grin nudging Lucio in the side. Hanzo blushed even more furious and turned his attention back to his drink. Cole chuckled uncomfortably as he started to blush just as deeply. “The only reason you are uncomfortable is because you are still single, love” quipped Tracer at Genji while giving the couple a sympathetic wink causing the other in the group to laugh. “I think that is my queue to go and get another drink” said Cole uncomfortable while giving Hanzo a one armed hug and kissing him fondly on the cheek. “Do you want me to get ya something, sweetheart?” said Cassidy with his heart in his eyes as Hanzo turned his head to meet his gaze again. “No thank you, my love” replied Hanzo with the fond smile returned as he leaned in and gave Cole a quick kiss on the lips. Cole got up and went over to the bar.
While waiting at the bar he was approached by a young handsome man. “Howdy partner. Names Joe. What brings a handsome fella like ya all the way out here?” asked Joe with a flirty smile leaning suggestively against the bar next to Cole. Hanzo saw the man approaching Cole and decided to watch how Cassidy will turn down the man away. “Shucks darling. Thanks for the complement. Names Cole. Had some business to attend here. Ya are mighty fine looking yourself.” replied Cole with as he raised eyebrow while flirting back. “Well if ya have sometime before heading back where you came from…” crooned Joe suggestively as he leaned even closer. “Thank you for the offer, sweetpea but I am already with someone” replied Cole with a sincere smile as the barman gave him his drink. As Cole was turning towards the groups table Joe lean in and grabbed Coles ass while heading him off. The sudden crack of a glass hitting a table hard filled the bar. “Now darling. I love the attention but my boyfriend doesn’t” replied Cole still smiling lifting his free hand in a placating manner while trying to move away from Joe’s groping hand. “Hanzo…” said Genji as warning and to get his brothers attention in an attempt to stop him. Genji was hadn’t even finish saying his brother’s name before Joe was abruptly jerked away from Cole and thrown back against the bar. “Thank you, sweetheart. That wasn’t necessary. I had the situation under control. We don’t wanna cause any trouble here” said Cole a bit sheepishly turning a placating smile at Hanzo, who was glaring at him furiously. “Under control. The man had his hand on your ass…”growled Hanzo accusingly while Joe did smartest thing he possibly could, getting out of the bar as fast as humanly possible. “I was letting him down easily darling. It wasn’t necessary for ya to get so jealous and aggressive. It was uncalled for” replied Cole with some heat and as he saw the distress Hanzo has caused Joe. Cole felt humiliated at the scene Hanzo had caused. “Uncalled for… While I was sitting there you were flirting back at him rather then turning him down immediately. This is not the first time you have shamelessly flirted with anyone who showed any remote interest towards you in my presence. Does our relationship mean that little to you?” asked Hanzo with enough heat to rival Cassidy’s glaring up at his boyfriend in challenge. Do you not respect me at all hung the unsaid question between them but going unnoticed by Cole. “Ya knew what and who I were when we started our relationship. I am what I am, darling. Why should I be rude to other people because ya can’t control ya own jealousy.” snarled Cole in reply and out of shear stubborn anger as crossed his arms in a defiant gesture. “Now I know how much I truly matter to you.” said Hanzo in a defeated quiet tone as his face fell into a familiar stoic mask that Cassidy hasn’t seen since Hanzo joined Overwatch. A pang of worry and regret hit Cole hard in his chest that it left him momentarily stunned as he finally picked up on Hanzo unasked question and his blatant answer of ‘No. I don’. Hanzo walk away from Cassidy towards Tracer in an awkwardly silent bar. “Tracer, would you be so kind as to take me back to Gibraltar ahead of schedule?” asked Hanzo stiffly with the last traces of his dignity as a shield. “Sure thing love.” answered Tracer sympathetically while giving Cassidy a hot glare. Before Cole could apologize or attempt to take back his words both Tracer and Hanzo were gone.
The rest of the night and trip back to Gibraltar was done in awkward and uncomfortable silence for the rest of the group. Especially uncomfortable for Cole since Genji decide to sit across from Cole in the transport with his mask still off, glaring at the other man while sharpening his blades the whole trip back
When they finally arrive back at Gibraltar, Cole immediately started towards Hanzo’s room waving of Mercy’s attempts to get him to come see her for a mandatory after mission check up. Genji trailed after him in ominous silence. “Ya don’t have to mind me. I ain’t gonna say or do anything to hurt ‘im more. I more than regret everything I already did and said “growled Cole at Genji as he stalked down the hall. “I wish to check in on my brother. You are right when you state you have done more than enough harm tonight” replied Genji coldly from behind his mask. They continued down the hall in silence.
Cole knocked on Hanzo’s door. It did not open nor did there come a reply from inside “Athena. Please open a channel to Hanzo’s room” said Cassidy out load. “Channel open agent Cassidy” confirmed Athena. “Hanzo darling. I am really sorry. I knew you don’t like it when I flirt back with other people, yet I kept on doing it. Tonight I did it again and this time let it go to for.” said Cole out load knowing that Hanzo will hear his voice. There came no reply. “Honeybee, you mean the world to me, I respect you and what I said to ya was wrong and out of anger. I should have stopped that habit when we started dating but was too stubborn to take your feeling into consideration. I swear on my grand pappies memory I will never do it again. Please let me make it up to you. Please open the door. I will do anything to make this right with ya” said Cole sincerely while leaning his head against the wall next to Hanzo’s door with his shoulders slumped in defeat. “Aniki. I just came to see if you are ok.” stated Genji into the open channel after another few seconds of silence passed since Cole had spoken. I felt like a life time before a reply came. “Agent Cassidy, Agent Shimada wishes me to inform you that he wants you to go commit seppuku and to not darken his door again.” responded Athena to Coles, pausing a beet before continuing “Agent Shimada Genji, your brother wishes me to inform you that he is fine and will see you tomorrow for lunch.” After a minute of silence “I am such a blooming dunce.” said Cole banging his head lightly against the wall next to door. Genji softened a bit as he seen his friends sincerity in the apology towards Hanzo but knew that what his friend had done was not something easily forgiven. “Let my brother be tonight Cole. You have done much harm. Leave him to find some peace tonight. If you are truly sincere in your apology then give him some time and space.” said Genji before turning and leaving for his own room
“Howdy Genj” Cole called out as he saw the younger Shimada brother leave the kitchen the next morning. Genji stopped and waited for his friend to catch up to him. “Ohayo Cole. How are you today?” asked Genji glad that that his mask was hiding his expression. “Ain’t doing to good ta be honest…” ansewered Cassidy while looking down and towing the ground with a boot, feeling a silly for seeking out Genji like this. Genji just stood there remaining quiet until the silence became awkward “Do ya maybe know where Hanzo is… I tried to apologize again for yesterday… but when I went looking for him today…” said Cole in an awkward drawl not lifting his head. Genji shit eating grin grew on his face “My brother is not a man that easily forgives others nor himself. You of all people should you know this, my friend…” said Genji in a solemn tone. He let the awkward silence drew out again for a few more seconds until Cole looked at him and then Genji continued “I know where he can be found this morning. I will take you to him but be warned, hurt him in that manner again and whatever is left of you after Hanzo is done with you, will have to deal with me. Friend or not, you have hurt my brother deeply and dearly.” Genji ended with a dark and angry tone. Cassidy swallowed hard and nodded his head once. “Come let’s go to the Shooting Range.” Said Genji jovially as he turned on a quick heel and started walking in that direction. Cassidy release a quick breath he didn’t realize he was holding and followed a step behind Genji
“Why is that training bot wearing a cowboy hat and has a picture of me on its face.” asked Cole cautiously right before Hanzo drew an arrow lightning quick and loosed it. Cassidy flinched in horror and sympathy as the arrow lodge into the training bot where a man’s groin would be. “I think my brother might still be furious with you my friend.” replied Genji while placing a sympathetic hand on Cole’s shoulder. “Ya think… “ remarked Cole hopelessly with a sigh deflating visibly. “Since we are friends and my brother probably still loves you dearly. I will give you some advise” said Genji while squeezing his shoulder hard to get his full attention. Cole stood a little straighter with as glint of hope in his eyes. “Do not only use words as a means of apology. Use actions. My brother finds more sincerity and value in others actions than in their words.” continued Genji somberly “Got it” said Cole before walking over to where Hanzo was practicing.
Cassidy immediately jumped over the safety railing to both Shimada brothers shocked surprise “Warning agent Cassidy. This is not a safe area to be while a practice program is running.” announced Athena. “I know darling. But sometimes a mans gotta do dangerous things for love” replied Cole to her warning. “What are you doing you fool!” shouted Hanzo slowly pulling back the arrow he was about to have loosed. “Cole come back here” urged Genji rushing to his brother side. “Sorry Genji. Gotta do this.” said Cole as he stood in front of the training bot with the cowboy hat while turning to face Hanzo. Hanzo stood stunned with his mouth slightly open with the bow and arrow pointed down for safety. “Sweetheart, I hurt ya badly. I am the fool as ya just called me, as well as shameless insensitive flirt. I hurt ya very deeply and I hate seeing ya hurt in any way. Especially as I am the one who caused it. I am willing to do anything to make it up to ya and to have ya back in my life. If ya want to you can put as many arrows into me as ya want. I deserve them and more for the hurt that I caused ya.” said Cassidy ending his speech by razing his arms to his sides to present a perfect target. “You fool of a Cow man…” murmured Hanzo as his face broke with emotion and his shoulders slumped as tears started pouring down his cheeks. The bow and arrow fell to the ground as his shoulder started to quiver with his silent sobs “Aniki…” said Genji in worried shock with hands hovering around his brothers shoulders, uncertain what to do. He has never seen Hanzo in such a state. Genji turned his head towards Cole as the sound of running boots filled the range. His mask lights turned red in anger as he truly realized the pain Cassidy’s has caused his brother.
Before Genji could say or do anything, Cole had vaulted the safety railing and grabbed Hanzo into a tight hug. “I am sorry, darling… I am so sorry…” whispered Cole stroking Hanzo’s hair as the smaller man buried his face against Cole’s chest. “I hurt ya to much… I will never, ever do it again as long as I live…” crooned Cassidy while placing gentle kisses on top of Hanzo’s head while shedding tears of remorse. As Hanzo gripped him tighter, Cole rubbed his back while rocking him from side to side. Genji took a few steps back to give them some space but not leaving until he is certain Hanzo will be ok. “Please give me chance to make it up ta ya… “ whispered Cole with a tight emotion filled throat. Hanzo leaned back a little to look the man he loves in the eyes. “Don’t ever do anything like that to me ever again…” said Hanzo with a stern glare diminished by the tears still flowing down his cheeks. “I won’t… I swear…” replied Cole sincerely before giving Hanzo a soft, gentle promising kiss and hugging him close again. Seeing that his brother is going to be okay and vowing to end the cowboy if he ever hurt is brother in that manner again, Genji turned around and started leaving the room. He and Cole might be friend but his Aniki had had more than enough pain in his life. Before going through the door he looked back and saw his brother smiling faintly before kissing the cowboy.
