Let's Hear It For The Boy

Summary:

Hal Jordan has had a long day and is ready to be home and relax. He finds his husband, Barry, in the kitchen. Hilarity, and fluff, ensues.

Work Text:

My baby, he don't talk sweet
He ain't got much to say
But he loves me, loves me, loves me
I know that he loves me anyway
And maybe he don't dress fine
But I don't really mind
'Cause every time he pulls me near
I just wanna cheer

Hal was glad to finally be home after a horribly long day. He opened the door, ready to call out, when he heard the sound of one of Barry’s favourite songs playing through the house.

Let's hear it for the boy
Let's give the boy a hand
Let's hear it for my baby
You know you gotta understand
Oh, maybe he's no Romeo
But he's my lovin' one-man show
Oh, whoa-oa-oa
Let's hear it for the boy

With a smirk, Hal followed the sound, until he found Barry in the kitchen, singing along.

“My baby may not be rich, He's watchin' every dime~” Barry sang into the whisk in his hands, hips rocking to the music as he danced in simple steps. “But he loves me, loves me, loves me, We always have a real good time~” He spun in a slow, tight circle as he lowered his voice in a sultry way to match the singer’s own voice. Hal leaned back against the doorframe, watching his husband fondly, a warmth blossoming in his chest as he thought about just how lucky he was.

“And maybe he sings off key, But that's alright by me, yeah~ 'Cause what he does, he does so well, Makes me wanna yell!” Barry jumped up into the air, fist pumped as he brought the whisk closer to rock out into the chorus. “Let's hear it for the boy, Ah, let's give the boy a hand~ Let's hear it for my baby, You know you gotta understand~” Barry started dancing far more energetically, looking like a character in a John Hughes coming of age film. “Oh, maybe he's no Romeo, But he's my lovin' one-man show, Oh, whoa-oa-oa, Let's hear it for the boy!”

Hal watched on during the brief instrumental, waiting for the right moment to approach Barry. Sure, he really wanted to join him now, but it was so much fun just watching and enjoying the free moments like this, where Barry was fully himself, immersed in the moment and unaware of his surroundings. It was a thing of beauty.

'Cause every time he pulls me near
I just wanna cheer
Let's hear it for the boy
Ah, let's give the boy a hand
Let's hear it for my baby
You know you gotta understand
Oh, maybe he's no Romeo
But he's my lovin' one-man show
Oh, whoa-oa-oa
Let's hear it for the boy
Let's hear it for my man
(Let's hear it for my baby)
Let's hear it for my man
(Let's hear it for the boy)
(Let's hear it for my baby)
Let's hear it for my man, yeah
(Let's hear it for my baby)
(Let's hear it for the boy)
Pull yourself together
(Let's hear it for my baby)
Whoa, let's hear it for my boy
(Let's hear it for my baby)
Let's hear it for my man
(Let's hear it for the boy)
(Let's hear it for my baby)
Let's hear it for my man, yeah

As the song came to a close, Hal strode silently forward and pulled Barry into his arms. Barry let out a little squeak of surprise, which caused Hal to laugh.

“Oh, Hal!” Barry said, shaking his head fondly, “Why didn’t you say anything? Why sneak up on me like that?”

“It’s more fun to watch you enjoy the full moment, I didn’t want to interrupt. Besides, even in your surprise you’re adorable.” Hal smirked as Barry blushed. As his head rested on Barry’s shoulder, and the pair enjoyed the warmth of a requited and wholesome love, Hal frowned and said “...I don’t sing off-key, do I?” Barry just laughed in response and kissed his cheek.

“Do I?!” Hal asked, pulling away slightly, mind suddenly unable to recall what his singing voice sounded like. Barry laughed again, turned around, and pulled Hal’s face into his hands.

“It’s just a lyric in a song, dear.” He said, kissing Hal on the nose, before leaving to finish his cooking. Hal grinned. Yeah, he was incredibly lucky.
