Work Text:

It is the same incessant nightmare that has haunted Stella every night for a week. She is standing in Alfea's great hall with a heavy atmosphere, surrounded by torches. In front of her, Bloom, with her wings of fire spread, is facing Sebastian, consumed by rage and grief. The pain of having lost Sky, for he is lying lifeless on the floor. Terra and Aisha are surrounding them, ready to act. Suddenly, the Specialist wakes up, gasping for air, dizzy. Bloom rushes to him, relieved. Grey has just brought him back to life through his Blood Witch powers. A few seconds later, Stella's gaze lands with dread on Beatrix's body, which is lying inert on the ground, face down, her head bathed in a pool of dark red blood. And then her whole world collapses, for the girl she has secretly fallen in love with has become her centre of the universe, her infinity. And Sebastian killed her, the ultimate horror. The horror of a shattered life, of a wasted love, of moments lost, forever gone. Kneeling beside her, trembling and crying out in despair at the sight of the lifeless body, the voices of her friends seem so far away that she can only hear their echoes. She knows that they are doing their best to comfort and reassure her in this terrible moment, but only the smell of blood and death can keep her from sinking in the abyss as her stomach twists furiously. Now she is alone. Beatrix, her beloved Bea, has passed away. She is a princess without her realm, a light fairy without her light. She is no longer herself, and she will never be the one her mother wants, because she will always be missing a part of herself. This is what Beatrix has become, her second half, and the emptiness that has taken hold of the young lady makes her an incomplete being.

Gradually the scenery changes, giving way to the luxurious room she occupies in the royal castle. Lying in her soft bed with orange sheets, the fairy, in tears, is drowning her grief in candies, chocolates and cakes of all kinds. Her mother is standing beside the bed, looking down on her with disdain. The Princess of Solaria knows what she is about to say, or rather sneer at her: that her daughter is just a lazy larva with no future, that she is ashamed of having brought her into the world, that she disgusts her, and worst of all, that she rejoices in Beatrix's death because she was "diverting" her daughter from her purpose, and that if Sebastian had not killed her, she would have gladly handled this, in order to make sure that Stella would not develop any sweet feelings for her and never choose her as queen.
Slowly, as if reality has become unbearable for her, Stella comes around, her fists clenched. That shrew cannot be her mother, she is so mean to her, that woman with a heart made of stone cannot have given birth to her, she cannot believe it. She doesn't love her, if she did, she would be available for her, to comfort her, and wouldn't have gloated when she heard Bea was dead. If she is capable of being so petty and hurting her own daughter so much, then what atrocities is she capable of towards her realm?

Heartbroken by so much grief and monstrosity, feeling a warm liquid running down her temples, the young lady realises that she has not stopped crying since she woke up, if not before. It's been a long time since she mourned her mother. She grabs one of her pillows and curls up on her left side like a fetus, holding it tightly against her. It's silly, but she feels less lonely, and she knows that if she confides in it, it won't judge her.

Despite the nightmare she's been living for too long, Stella has a dream: to find Isobel and D'Arcy and join them in putting the tyrannical Queen Luna out of business.
