Work Text:
01 – Farewell the Sea
It’s been a year since Nya merged with the sea. No one took it well. Jay, Kai and Lloyd left and the rest of them was on edge. Cole couldn’t help but be reminded of the time that they thought Zane died.
Zane had turned his emotions off, Pixal was being more distant than before, Echo barely talked and Morro was always doing something, he was trying to distract himself. Sensei Wu and Sensei Garmadon did their best to find a way to get Nya back, but that search had been unfruitful for a year now.
If he was honest, Cole took it the best, he had been through the grief of losing someone important before, he knew how to handle pain.
That didn’t mean it hurt less.
08 – Kryptarium Prison Blues
The ninja were in prison, not surprising considering that they broke the law but none of them regret it.
Dareth and Skylor visited them, they needed to get them out somehow.
Skylor pulled out a small bag and handed it to Cole.
“Morro told me to give this to you. He said you wouldn’t last a day with prison food.”
Cole opened it and it was cupcake, a homemade one. Morro had picked up cooking and baking ever since he became human again, but he hadn’t had the motivation to make anything since Nya disappeared, until now. Knowing Morro was better again was almost as good as the cupcake, almost.
Morro was in his room. He had just showered and was getting into some fresh clothes when an odd-looking spider entered through his open window. He watched at it for a second, it sat down on his bed and a projection opened to someone wearing a kabuki mask.
“Morro, Master of Wind, you are invited to join the council of the Crystal King. Do you accept the invitation?”
Who or what was the Crystal King?
“We don’t have much time, decide now!”
The person was getting impatient. If this person sought out Morro, it could only mean they invited other villains and that they hoped that Morro still wanted to be a bad guy. Morro needed to know what’s going on, but he didn’t have time to warn the others. He only had this one chance.
“I’m in.”
“Good, follow the spider.”
The hologram disappeared and the spider left the same way it came in.
Morro only grabbed his shirt and followed the spider, he forgot that he should have put on his communicator. If something happened, the others wouldn’t be able to find him. Let’s hope nothing happens.
Morro had really been spending to much time with these self-sacrificing idiots he considered family. At least he would be able to act his way through this, well lie
Wu opened the door to Morro’s room; he hadn’t heard from him in hours. When they looked inside the room was empty, only the window was wide open. Where would Morro go, without telling him? Or anyone else?
12 – The Council of the Crystal King
Lloyd made his way to the council.
He wasn’t too surprised to see some of the people there, but seeing Morro was a shock. Lloyd had thought Morro was happy, that he was enjoying himself. Was all of that a lie? Did he fake everything? Lloyd didn’t want to believe that, it couldn’t be true. Morro was his cousin, part of his family. If Morro betrayed them, Lloyd doesn’t know what he’d do. He was worried how Cole would take it. He was so in love with Morro, it would break him. Vania would be heartbroken too.
All of them had grown to love and care for Morro, he was part of their family. Lloyd didn’t want tell the others that he betrayed them.
Lloyd walked into the room. He was dressed as the Mechanic but no one aside form Morro noticed that it was Lloyd.
Morro’s acting was good enough to fool all of them. Phythor didn’t keep taps in the ninja while he was prison, he was easily fooled, he did believe that he worked with Yang. Ashperaa was content with Morro saying that Wu betrayed him too. Mr F was a not much too fool, he was a robot without emotion, unlike his nindroid friends. Vangelis was a little harder, but Morro was good enough to fool him. Morro had a plan, but of course Lloyd had to come in. He knew it would ruin his plan. He needed to come up with something else, fast!
The ring leader steps in, revealing that there is an imposter. They knew about Lloyd. They revealed that the Mechanic wasn’t the real deal.
They quickly attacked Lloyd; Morro stood to the side. Stopping them would ruin all his chances of figuring this, but was letting them hurt Lloyd worth it? No.
Morro acted fast and kicked Mr. F away from Lloyd.
Unfortunately, both Elemental Masters were over powered by the villains in the room. The ring leader took of their mask, revealing a girl, she was Lloyd’s age. If Morro remembered right, that was Harumi.
She looked at Morro in an almost sad expression, it was fake, Morro knew that much.
“And here I thought you and I could get along.”
13 – A Sinister Shadow
Lloyd was revealed, Morro didn’t betray them. It seemed like they had the same idea.
Lloyd tried to convince Harumi that she didn’t have to do this.
Back then, he had thought he was in love. He wasn’t, he liked the idea of a relationship. He still wanted to help her. He still believed that there was good in her, she just needed to see it. If Lloyd couldn’t help her, maybe Morro could! Morro changed! Lloyd really hoped Morro could. Harumi had suffered enough, she deserved happiness, even though she did bad things.
14 – The Spider’s Design
Morro had been gone for weeks. They didn’t tell the ninja in purpose because Wu knew they, especially Cole, would freak out. They couldn’t risk that, not right now. The Sensei just hoped his son would come home soon.
Harumi had locked both Morro and Lloyd inside a cage and of course, it was made of Vengestone.
She made a show out of blowing up the ninja. The cousins were angry but also didn’t want to believe it. Morro had never seen Lloyd this angry. He burst through the cage. Morro wasn’t far behind and began fighting Mr. F while Lloyd fought Harumi. She mocked him, those were his Oni powers. He was surprised and Harumi overpowered him. Morro was distracted by the scene and wanted to help Llyod, but Mr. F knocked him out from behind.
15 – The Fall of the Monastery
The Monastery was overrun by villains, the council of the Crystal King.
There was a nindroid too. Echo knew that it wasn’t just a new nindroid, it was a copy of himself. An empty shell of his hardware with only the simplest software.
“Mr. F?! That’s just a cheap copy!”
Echo was offended. How dare they make a cheap knock-off of himself. Not even his suit was nice.
The copper nindroid had never been this offended. Especially since that white serpent called the knock-off the better version! There was no better version of him! He was the best version!
16 – Darkness Within
Nya returned with Ninja; they were greeted by everyone else. Cole looked around, he could see Morro, where was he?
“Where’s Morro?”
The others in the room looked concerned.
“We- we don’t know.”, said Wu, worry visible in his voice.
“He’s been gone for weeks now.”, said Garmadon.
Where could he have gone? Hopefully he was safe…
17 – The Coming of the King
Looks like escaping was easy. Lloyd and Morro were running. Vangelis was close behind them.
“I should have never believed you! You are just as bad as the earth ninja!”
“I take that as a compliment!”
“You ruined everything! You even turned my own daughter against me!”
This ticked Morro off a little.
“You don’t have a daughter! Vania is our daughter!”
Before Vangelis could blow up even more, Morro was out of his sight. Maybe Morro should agate him, but he couldn’t help it.
They made it outside. Lloyd pulled Harumi with him when he jumped, Morro followed close behind. Morro wasn’t able to stop their descent but he slowed it enough that no one got hurt.
Back on the cave, there was a noise. Lloyd’s communicator was back online.
“Lloyd!”, yelled Echo in excitement.
“Thank the Master.”, said Garmadon, relieved his son was alive.
The ninja got ready. The vehicles to steal. Garmadon decided to join them, he wanted to be there when they found Lloyd. As he passed his brother he put a hand on Wu’s shoulder.
“We found Lloyd. We’ll find Morro too.”
“I hope we do.”
Wu was relieved his nephew was alive, but he couldn’t help but worry about his son.
18 – Return to Primeval’s Eye
Inside the forest, Morro couldn’t help but notice the way Harumi and Lloyd interacted. He wasn’t entirely sure what their realtionsjip was, but the way they acted reminded him small children argueing about a toy or something.
Morro dind’t know Harumi, but to him she was just a kid, she was really oder then Lloyd and Echo but she took a path similar to him. She was not purely evil, just misguided and lost, cconfusde even. She reminded Morro of himself.
Walking through the forest was something. Lloyd and Harumi kept fighting and arguing, Morro tried to keep them from killing each other. If they acted like this, why did Lloyd take her with them.
They were spotted, luckily enough the others had found them.
“Lloyd! Morro! Jump!”, yelled Wu.
Lloyd and Morro jumped over, Morro landed on the railing, Lloyd ddin’t quite make it but Nya and Morro pulled him up.
Zane soon came in and distracted the council. As they left Lloyd said: “The Overlord is back.”
19 – Crystastrophe
Everyone was trying to figure out why the Overlord was back, when Wu remembered the news articles Garmadon had been leaving on the kitchen table for years.
“Did you know?”, asked Wu.
“Of course, I knew! I’m the master of destruction!”, said Garmadon.
“Why didn’t you just tell us?”, asked Lloyd.
“believe me, I tried. None of you listened to me!”
Wu couldn’t help but think back to all the times he brushed his brothers worries about the Overlord aside. He really tried, but Wu didn’t take him seriously. Wu was so sure the Overlord wouldn’t return for a long time.
20 – Christofern
They decided to go and tell the others to meet back in the cave. On their way there the crystal beasts kept attacking them. One tried to take Lloyd.
Garmadon was already angry. Angry that Wu didn’t listen to his worries about the Overlord, angry that it came this far in the first place and angry that it was his fault. If he had been more persistent about telling Wu, maybe this could have been avoided.
The thing trying to take Lloyd was just the tip of the iceberg.
He felt the anger run through his veins; he felt the second set of arms grew as well as the power. The power of the Oni.
He took off, he let his anger out, destroying the beasts and the foot soldiers. It had been a while since he transformed fully, he didn’t forget how to fight with these powers though, he was just as used to them as all those years ago.
When he returned to the bounty, Wu had an idea. Maybe they could use his Oni powers to win.
No one mentioned that Lloyd was also Oni, and had the powers of one.
21 – A Lesson in Anger
Cole and Jay were in a tricky situation when the bounty arrived.
Nya and Morro looked over the side.
“Morro! You’re back!”
Cole knew they had a huge problem at their hands but knowing Morro was back was a relive.
In the cave Morro was promptly hugged by Cole. When Cole finally put Morro down, the master of wind turned to the others.
“I’m sorry. I thought I could handle it. I couldn’t.”
“Were just happy you’re safe.”, said Wu.
Cole put a reassuring hand on Morro’s shoulder.
“I for one am glad you were there. I don’t know what would have happened if I was alone.”, said Lloyd.
Morro chuckled and ruffled Lloyd’s hair.
“You would have figured something out, you always do.”
24 – Return of the Ice Emperor
Pixal and Echo were making their way through the city. They came here with Skylor and Morro. They had split up to find the others and the two nindroids were trying to find Zane. While the other two and Jay searched for the rest.
They did find him eventually, but he was ripped apart, literally. His hologram was glitching, going between multiple people, some the two hadn’t ever met before. The glitch stopped and settled on what turned out to be the ice emperor. He began commanding them around.
The only idea they had to help Zane was bringing him to Borg Tower. As they made their way through the city Zane would keep quiet and kept talking like a dictator, commanding them around. Both were growing more and more annoyed with him.
“When he’s back to normal, I’ll punch him.”, Echo muttered, he had never been this annoyed by anything.
“Please do, this is worse than the detective thing.”, said Pixal.
While she enjoyed his silliness a lot, this commanding tone and the timing wasn’t something she liked.
They got themselves a ride to Borg Tower thanks to Ronin and the escaped criminals. Echo looked into the crowd; he was glad he didn’t wear his helmet. Ultra Violet and Killow would surely recognize him. He didn’t want to deal with that now. He wasn’t sure how they would react to their former friend ally working with the ninja.
25 – Safe Haven
While Echo and Pixal were searching for Zane, Skylor and Morro made quickly moved through the city to find Kai and Cole. Finding them was easier than they thought. The two were cornered by Phythor and a few crystal soldiers.
“You traitor!”, Phythor yelled.
“I didn’t betray anyone. I just fooled you. Not like the first time I did that.”, said Morro casually while Skylor copied Cole and Kai’s powers.
“You did not!”
“Didn’t I? Don’t you remember the Day of the Departed?”
“WHAT?!”
Phythor was easy to agate.
Shortly after Skylor made sure they could get away.
“Do you always have to make people angry?”, accused Kai.
“Yes.”, said Morro.
“Urgh… You’re impossible!”
Morro helped Kai carry Cole since he was a little out of it.
Cole looked at Morro and smiled at him. “You’re pretty.”
Morro looked at Cole confused. It wasn’t unusual for Cole to tell complement him but the timing was uncalled for. Kai picked up on Morro’s confusion.
“He hit his head. Hard.”
Deep underground Lloyd and his father were walking around hoping they could find the serpentine and ask for help. Garmadon kept trying to tell Lloyd that he needed to be more in tune with this Oni side, that it was okay to be.
“I don’t want to!”, yelled Lloyd.
“You-“, Garmadon was cut off.
“Why are you even so okay with using your Oni Form?!”
“I’ve had years to accept that part of me.”
“But Oni are evil! They only cause problems!”
“That’s what we all believed about the serpentine.”
“But Oni’s are destruction!”
“And I’m the master of destruction. You don’t have to like it, Lloyd. You have to accept it eventually.”
“I don’t.”
“You do. I understand that it is hard to accept, but you will have too eventually. Being part Oni is as much part of you as being part Dragon and an elemental master.”
Lloyd just stopped responding to his dad. He didn’t want to keep this conversation up. Why did he and his dad have to be more Oni than Dragon? Dragon were nice, Oni weren’t.
26 – Compatible
Inside Borg Tower Pixal and Echo were helping their now allies get used to their new Mechs. Pixal was talking to Killow when she was called over by Borg. Echo took over for her and helped him.
“The Mechs adjust to you, you just need to press this button. Ultra Violet, can you help him up?”
“Do I have to? It’s fun watching him struggle.”
Echo looked at her unimpressed. “Yes.”
She complained a little but helped Killow nonetheless.
Echo gave them a few more pointers on how to operate the Mechs. It felt awfully familiar. Maybe he did this as Mr. E? He remembered most of the events but a good chunk of his memories were rather blurry. Maybe he should tell the two after all of this is over. He’ll think about that.
Pixal gave her goodbye to Zane and Echo took her hand to comfort her. If Zane doesn’t make it, they’d need each other. Luckily that scenario wouldn’t become reality. Zane woke up again. He was immediately hugged by Pixal, Echo followed close behind.
Zane took in the situation and noticed Ultra Violet and Killow, next to the other criminals. Pixal explained the most important things, while Echo returned to giving pointers to the three Mech drivers. Zane found it amusing, Echo was talking to his former allies. He couldn’t help but comment on it.
“Who would have thought. Ultra Violet, Killlow and Mr. E fighting alongside each other again.”
Looks like Zane decided to reveal that for Echo. He decided to go along with it.
“It’s been a while, hasn’t it?.”
“WHAT?!”, yelled the two.
“We thought Garmadon crushed you, dude!”, said Killow.
“When did you become a good guy?”, asked Ultra Violet.
“I wasn’t me when I was Mr. E. I’m Echo, I was built to protect those who cannot protect themselves.”
“What’s next? Garmadon is good again?”, yelled Killow.
“Well…”, said Echo.
“Oh, come on! How much do you miss when you’re in prison!”, yelled Ultra Violet.
27 – Distress Call
Cole, Morro and Vinny were sitting together while Blazey drove through the city. Cole and Vinny didn’t really enjoy it, Morro however, he was having fun.
Once they reached the tower he did feel bad for the other two.
Getting everything set up was easy enough, they recorded the message to Vania. Morro didn’t want to involve her, neither did Cole, but they had no choice, they needed her help. The two knew she could take care of herself, she was a queen now after all, but that didn’t mean they wanted her to get hurt doing this.
By the end they were interrupted by a beast, trying to kill them. They escaped the situation. Hopefully the message reached Vania.
29 – Dragon Form
They were done, they had lost. There was no way they could still win this.
That is what they all thought until the army of Shintaro, being led by Queen Vania, arrived. Only second after King Benthomaar arrived with the rest of the Merlopians, as well as the Keepers. The serpentine came shortly after too. Not to mention all the other allies they made along the way and their families too.
Seeing all the people willing to help them was encouraging. These people had faith in them, they were willing to die alongside the ninja.
The ninja give these people hope, they always did.
The people of Ninjago began to eternalize the saying Wu loved so much.
NINJA NEVER QUIT.
30 – Roots
They had done it, they won.
The ones that stayed behind ran to the roof. When they reached the roof they saw the guys bidding the dragon and their powers goodbye.
Much to their surprise Harumi was there too. She apparently turned a new leave. Morro couldn’t help but be proud of her. She was still young, she could life a happy life, a life her parents wanted for her. If she wanted it, he was sure the team would give her a chance too. They had given him one after all.
Repairing the Monastery was going to be a pain. It wasn’t going to be easy but they would be able to do it eventually.
Luckily Dareth and everyone else came to help.
Kai finally got around to asking out Skylor properly. Jay and Nya would finally be able to hold their wedding, they had been engaged for a few years now. Echo helped Ultra Violet and Killow turn a new leaf, they liked this Echo more than Mr. E and maybe doing the right thing wasn’t all that bad. Cole and Morro could actually introduce Lou to his new granddaughter, he was ecstatic the moment he first heard about her, meeting her was just as much a joy. Lou couldn’t wait for his next grandchildren. Lloyd was helping Harumi life a normal life, being part of her new family. They dragged Morro along often enough; Lloyd claimed it was cousin bonding time. Garmadon helped too. He may have been evil when he considered Harumi his daughter but he doesn’t mind acting like a parental figure to her, she enjoyed it too. Harumi had a family once again and she was happy. Maybe she could also talk to the cute girl with pink hair playing the guitar. Lloyd and Morro defiantly didn’t tease her about that. Wu liked seeing his students this relaxed and happy. This last adventure was hopefully the last one for a while.
Hopefully they’ll be able to enjoy this peace for a long time. They really needed a break from everything.
