Work Text:

            She could finally sing again.

Traveling into the world of U has totally taken her over. She was enthralled with the magic and the wonders of this obscure universe. All of these wonderful sights made her feel something.

She could feel the music again. Her hands shook all the way to the tips of her slim fingers, her eyes glossed over; confused on how she could muster any sort of melodic sound again.

The music seemed to travel all the way from her toes to each strand of hair, crescendo-ing beautifully until it faded. It was almost electrifying.

She didn’t seem to care about all of the virtual users lurking and judging this new voice, even Peggy Sue was livid.

‘It’s beautiful.’ Her mind was reeling, almost pulsating to the frightening excitement escaping her being.

“Who is this girl?” They’d murmur, the voices blending together into some mush of sound being overcome by her voice. Her voice; it was so–perfectly crafted. Only one who’d been truly hurt in their lifetime could sing like that. That–unmistakable voice, the breathiness of it—enchanting every peer who dared to listen. Who dared to even care, it’s the internet, after all. No instrument could replicate this sound. It resonated like a horn, but sounded as pure as an oboe or flute, but with the low tone of a clarinet underneath. You could hear her sorrow.

Her voice was as faint yet as strong as someone who’s been through life—the hardships of it, even at such a young age.

         She’s been hurt.

Suzu typed on her computer, her mouse was draggin along the staff, placing notes in their places on the screen. She would compose daily, creating devious melodies along with brilliant choruses, ones that could make you feel something. It seemed like her only friend was music, something so enthralling. It seemed to be the only thing she was good at.

She and her mother would create music together. They would place simple melodies and add on to it until it’s beautifully pieced together, creating a story of its own. It was amazing…she was happy. It was until her mother died that she stopped singing, going completely silent it seems. She would always try to hum, but she just couldn’t bring herself to it.

“Mommy! Don’t go!” She screeched, her raspiness echoing loudly in the pure silence. Nothing heard except her and the raging waves. A child, so innocent and pure, would be trapped among a small hill of dirt, trapped with no way to escape. The raging water surrounded the girl, as the hope drained from her eyes. That was when she put on her lifecoat.

“Mommy!” She’d scream again, but this time she wasn’t heard.

    It was too late.

The girl was saved but she wasn’t. And that’s all Suzu cared about.

She never understood why her mother chose that girl over her own blood.

Over her own family…

It was now recently that she wrote and wrote and wrote these songs because of U, the internet sensation these people have been talking about. Words seem to take flight and soar, carrying her into a blissful world. Clouds made of madness trinkling with rain made out of courage. She’s away from home, all alone, shutting herself inside of this place so she can write and write and write until the pen takes it’s last breath, it’s color fading away softly.

Every single fleeting day has worn the girl out. ‘Poor Suzu’ they’d say. She’s all alone in this world with nobody there to hug her and tell her it’s okay.

She keeps telling herself that she has to move one now that she’s gone. She’d cry at school, shutting herself off from the world.

Now that she’s this secret persona, with her friend Hiro helping her along the way, she would be more open now, maybe even hopeful. With help from Hiro, she would become an internet sensation with her voice, the sound was glorious.

“It seems that people are accusing all types of people to be the beast.” Hiro hummed, examining all of the suspects on the large screen, her mouse zooming in on a particular subject. It was an ugly woman with too much makeup on.

“err…she is–something!” Suzu spoke up, a cringe twinged on her face. Hiro snickered and joined the call, revealing the woman.

She looked up the womans instagram, seeing that she had a nice family and comments on that. The woman seemed nice to Suzu, innocent looking and pampered well. Where would the bruises play into this story? Hiro ended the call and rolled her eyes.

“Most of those pictures on her instagram are stock images. She was lying every single sentence. You could see it all over her face!” She grinned widely, clicking on her keyboard to see if anyone else is worth talking to.

“I really hope that…it isn’t that woman. Her looks were all wrinkled, and it seemed that she really didn’t care for herself, her chin was–” She got cut off with a potato chip being shoved into her mouth, causing her to chew it with delight.

“Quit being so freakin’ persnickety!” Hiro shouted, her eyes glued to the screen.

“Per–what?” Suzu’s eyes blinked absent-mindedly. Hiro just rolled her eyes and sat down on the chair, digging into the bag of chips.

“Persnickety. It means you’re fussin’ over nothing!” She screeched, waving her hands in the air, causing Suzu to chuckle, pushing the girls hands away annoyingly.

“I’m not a word-addict like you, Hiro.” She smirked, wrapping her fingers around her cup of soda, taking a sip of it while Hiro drones off with mindless insults to her, her glasses slipping to the bridge of her nose, hands pushing them right back up–like a nerd would do.

Hiro was the friend to keep her in check.

The one to make sure she doesn’t go crazy. Hiro was always there for her. Even though they weren’t childhood friends, Hiro seemed to know Suzu like that back of her palm, even one twitch of her eyebrow and Hiro was up in her face, making sure that she was mentally alive and focused.

U seemed to change her world online, but maybe there still is hope for her.

    Maybe theres hope for Suzu.
