Work Text:
The glistening white sand on Monopoly Mountain was now stained with the muddy, red blood of a battlefield. No. Not a battlefield. A massacre. How had no one seen the signs? Two men stood in the wreckage, surrounded by the mangled corpses of both friends and enemies. A shrill, maniacal laugh echoed throughout the bloodstained desert.
"Look at this destruction Scar! Isn't it beautiful? I think it's wonderful." Grian said, with a gigantic grin splitting across his face. Purple wings, covered with glowing eyes emerged from Grian's back. Instead of screaming in pain as the force of wings emerging made his back bleed, he cackled.
"Grian, I don't understand. What's happening? Why are you like this? What have you done?" Cried Scar, alarmed and disturbed by the scene before him. Joel's dead eyes looked at Scar judgingly, his final scream when Joel realized he had been betrayed was the stuff of nightmares.
"I've done nothing Scar, this is all just a bit of fun! You can't blame a man for having a bit of fun every once in a while, can you?" Grian replied with a condescending tone of voice. He picked up Jimmy's head, which was right beside him, and frozen in a look of horror. Grian started playing with it absentmindedly.
"Our friends are dead. You killed them. They begged for mercy and you butchered them, you blew them, and their trust in us to smithereens. How can you just brush it off like nothing happened?" Scar said coldly, volume escalating with each word spoken.
"Awww! Is the baby mad? Is the baby gonna cry? You're just throwing a temper tantrum because you finally realized that you and those friends of yours you were talking about were just pawns in my little game. Grow up." Grian answered in a mocking tone of voice.
"This isn't some game, Grian. These are- were real people with real lives, real love, real friends. Isn't there a shred of humanity left in you that can see that this is wrong?" Scar pleaded, not for himself, but for the friend who he laughed with, pranked with, confided with, killed with. That friend is gone.
"I'm not human anymore, Scar. I am a god. My humanity was ripped away by those who made me this way, and you know what? I don't want it back." Grian says hysterically. Grian drops Jimmy's head. It hits the sand with an audible thud. Grian inspects his hands, now painted by Jimmy's blood, with a smile.
Grian skips merrily over to Scar. Scar doesn't move. What's the point? All of his friends were dead. Grian moves to the body right beside Scar. The Red King in all of his deceased glory. Grian takes the Red Winter Axe from the dead king's belt. Then he turns to face Scar.
"You're right. You are no human. You're no god either. You are nothing but a manipulative, heartless monster." Scar spat. He didn't move, resigned to his fate.
"What a tragedy your story has come to a close." Grian replied in a mockery of sorrow. Grian then raised the ax up above his head and swung.
Red Winter has come.
